Attending were David' Kellogg, Suzie Garrelts, Cathy Fenner, Lisa Ritter, Doretta Noonan, Phillip Lottchea . and Terry Neff. Games with prizes for all .were played. The little guests then enjoyed hamburgers, cake and ice cream. Kay Mitchell Has A Birthday The neighbors came over to Kay Mitchell's Friday afternoon to help her celebrate, her birthday. They brought the cake and refreshments with them. Kay enjoyed the company of Anne Meyer, Pat Kellogg, Pat Coughlin and Helen Birmingham as they dug into that delicious cake on her birthday. Two Recent Parties At Petersen's Martha Petersen is relaxing after giving her two little children separate birthday parties. Eddie had his on Dec. 19 and Pauline had hers on •January 28th. Sixteen children attended each party. They had games, candy cups, hats, horns, ice cream, kool-aid, and cup cakes. Eddie had just turned five. The added plastic hearts filled with candies and a small gift for each was the main attraction at Pauline's sixth party. Both birthday children received many lovely gifts and all the children had a grand time at each party. The Friday before the wedding they had a rehearsal and then the wedding party, organist, and soloist got together in the Radner residence for refreshments. Betty's father, Joseph Lightholder, came out from Chicago for the wedding and to give the bride away. He returned to the city Sunday. Other family members participating in the wedding ceremony were Ed and Betty's lovely daughter, Sandy Rigler, who was matron of honor. Her sweet little _ Michelle was the flower girl. Ed served as an usher. Sally looked lovely as all brides do wearing the traditional bridal gown. The reception was held in a local restaurant with dinners for fourteen friends, and relatives. Jean Mersch is on our sick list this week also adding a sore back too. Jean fell on her front steps. The four Kohl children are dpwn with the mumps. Marge Brodin has been quite ill. We hope she is feeling much better now. Cathy Fenner joined the sick list. The two Grom girls have the flu. Gail Crokin is also on our executive flu list. The little Brownie girls missed her Wednesday evening. Scout News Maureen McCormack was the cookie hostess for Brownies on Wednesday, Feb. 3. At this meeting the Brownies of Troop 211 had their jam session and a lot of fun. The meeting of the 10th Darcy Marcotte will be cookie hostess. On the 17th Doreen, Miller will take her turn. This is the date also of their Valentine party. Each Brownie has been invited to bring eighteen Valentines to exchange. Remember to save those empty half gallon bleach bottles for a coming project. The Cub Scouts in Dottie Messer's den from Pack 162 which is sponsored by the American Legion are now busily making decorations for their coming Blue and Gold banquet. At the last meeting they made napkin holders. Place mats and other table decorations will be made at each meeting for the banquet on the 25th. Saturday the girls in Girl Scout Troop 436 gave the children in the Wingate Home for Retarded Children a party. They brought the refreshments and presented them with puppets they' had made. Club News Bunco Club met in the home of Donna Rohrer Wednesday evening. Frieda Durkin won first prize. In a grand playoff against two other members Thelma Massheimjer threw a bunco to win the bunco prize. She also received the booby prize that evening. Donna served a truly delicious chocolate chip whipped cream cake and a plate of cookies. There is a newly formed Tripoly Club on Country Lane. Members are Phyllis Schweikert, Carol Neff, Elaine Rogers, Janice Kohl, Marie Dalton, and Jackie Grom. They get together at one another's homes every other Wednesday evening. Last week they met in the home of Phyllis Schweikert who served a white, cake with a chocolate frosting and tea. Phyllis was the top winner that night and Janice Kohl came in second. Steppin' Out In spite of the cold we found three brave couples who got out of the Manor last week. On the 30th the James Wilsons attended the wedding of nephew Ralph Tonn in Skokie. Walt and Eleanor Kuck and Frank and Delores Woolwine attended a grand lobster dinner with the Power Squadron at the Great Lakes Officer's Club. The dinner was preceded by a cocktail hour. They also held a service for graduates from the piloting class as they joined the club. This was followed by an evening of dancing to lovely orchestra music. Valentine Dance Don't forget that everyone Has an invitation to attend the Valentine Dance held at this barn February 13th at 8 p.m. There will be refreshments served as you dance to the latest recordings on the popular juke box. Boy, if that doesn't make you feel like Father Time! water survey Water levels have continued to decline in wells throughout northeastern Illinois during the last year, according to William C. Ackermann, chief of the Illinois State Water Survey. Increasingly heavy demands on water supplies in this high-population area have caused water levels to go down in both deep sandstone wells and the shallow aquifer wells, Ackermann said. The Water Survey's preliminary analysis of last year's records show that water levels in the deep sandstone wells declined at an average rate of 12 feet for the year. Wells in Cook county had the highest rate of decline, 17 feet a year, and lowest rate was in McHenry county, where the annual decline averaged three feet. The eight counties included in the northeastern Illinois studies are Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will. AUTO JUNKYARDS A survey of auto junkyards and 'wrecking yards visible from interstate highways and highways on the Federal Aid Primary System in Illinois shows a total of 581 such sites. The survey was made by the Illinois Division of Highways in response to a request from Rex M. Whitton, federal highway administrator of the U. S. Bureau of Public Roads at Washington. It is part of a nationwide study of junkyards adjacent to highways. The Illinois tabulation showed that of the 581 debris sites, 174* were in urban areas, 393 in rural areas and 14 along the various routes of the Interstate System now in use in the state.
