Walter Anderson of McHenry announced the engagement of their daughter, Carol Jean, to Richard J. Smith, Jr., son of the senior Richard J. Smiths of McHenry. Miss Anderson is a graduate of McHenry high school and is in her third year at Northern Illinois university. Her fiance, also a graduate of McHenry • high school, received his B. S. degree in electrical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology and is now employed at a nuclear station near Morris, 111. St. Patrick Party At Spring Grove Members of the Christian Mothers Society are sponsoring a St. Patrick day luncheon and card party at St. Peter's parish hall, Spring Grove on Tuesday, March 16. Serving begins at noon. Those attending will play the card game of their choice throughout the afternoon. There will be a prize awarded for each table and many other prizes are being offered. Delta Kappa Gamma, as part of ijts teacher recruitment program, will entertain the Future Teachers organizations of McHenry' county. Other guests will be the foreign students who are studying at high schools in the county. Delta Kappa Gamnia membership cannot exceed 10 percent of all women, teachers of McHenry county. School Benefit Planned March ^ St. Patrick's Mothers club will serve a spaghetti dinner Sunday, March 7, in the church hall, between the hours of 1 and 3 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. Music will be provided during the dinner hours. The ways and means committee of the club is in charge, with Mrs. Justes scheduled to do the cooking. The dinner will include spaghetti, Italian bread, salad and beverage. Proceeds will benefit the inter- com system for St. Patrick's school BETTL ANN DAVIS Couple Plans June Wedding Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Davis of Scales Mound, 111., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Bette Ann, to Jack B. Schoenholtz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Schoenholtz of 3811 Waukegan Road, McHenry. Miss Davis graduated from Scales Mound high school in 1960. In 1964 she received her bachelor of arts degree from Northern Illinois university, where she was affiliated with Alpha Sigma social sorority. She is presently employed as a psychiatric social worker at the East Moline State hospital, East Moline. Following his graduation from McHenry high school in 1956, Mr. Schoenholtz completed four years in the Navy. In 1964 he received his bachelor of science degree in political science from Northern Illinois University, where he is presently doing graduate work in supervision and curriculum. A June 12 wedding is planned. Sponsor Card Party March 16 St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary- Sodality will sponsor a card party on March 16 at 8 p.m. in the church hall. There will be cards and bunco, with a prize for every table. Refreshments will be served. Mrs. William F. Doherty is chairman of the event. The party is a benefit for the purchase of altar needs. Honor Joe Weber On 75th Birthday Miss Laura Weber was hostess at a family gathering last Thursday evening?, Feb. 25, honoring her brother, Joe, on the seventy-fifth anniversary of his birth. Following dinner at the McHenry Country club an enjoyable evening was spent in reminiscing at the „ Weber home on Riverside drive, where birthday cake and coffee were served later. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. John Thennes, Mrs. Helen Heuser and Mrs. Emily Broeker. Mates Club At Hobo Party The Mates Club of Nativity Lutheran church held a hobo party for their February meeting, which took place at the home of Marge and Pete Peterson in Johnsburg. Since it was Georgia Meyers' birthday, she wore a corsage of carrots, greens and radishes and brought a boutonnaire, of an onion and radish for Bud Detiviler's birthday. The costumes were very appropriate for the evening. The menu consisted of hobo stew, salad, ice cream, cake and coffee. The stew pot was hung over a realistic imitation log fire in the middle of the room, where most of the group gathered around. They ate from aluminum pie plates and drank from cans in keeping with the theme. Pastor Johnson was in charge of games and produced some that were hilarious. Prizes were equally as humorous. Those who attended to enjoy festivities were Pastor and Jackie Johnson, Rudy and Jo Jirousek, co-presidents; Pete and Marge Peterson, co-secretary and treasurer; Walt and Georgia Meyers, co-vice-presidents; Ray and LaFem Kuntz, Bud and June Detiviler, Don and Dorothy Michels. Ed. and Elaine Malenius, Ron and Libby Johnson and Don and Mickey Sailman. The next meeting will be on March 21 at the church, starting with a pot-luck supper at 6:30 p.m. and followed by a performance of service for the church. There will be painting and general cleaning. Everyone is asked to attend and bring paint brush and a dish to pass. Clover Avenue, McHenry, has been awarded a scholarship to Valparaiso University for the 1965- 66 school year. She plans to major in sociology. - A senior at McHenry high school, Miss Palmbach served as vice-president of the Junior class. She also has belonged to the National Honor Society, Modern Music Masters and has a letter of commendation from the National Merit Scholraship program. = Within her church, she has served as president of the Walther League and as vice-president of the Zone Walther beague Board. DAR CHAPTER HEARS AIMS OF HISTORICAL GROUP The members of the Kishwaukee Trail chapter of DAR held their monthly meeting in Woodstock's historic old Opera House last week. They and their guests heard McHenry County Historical Society's enthusiastic president, Mrs. Dorothy McEachren, tell of the many things the group has accomplished in the short period of its existence, Mrs. McEachren had on display a number of the society's treasures and showed slides of other articles of special interest. In addition, she pointed out the need for heirlooms owned by McHenry county families and also any history of the county or its people. Due to limited space they cannot use furniture at this time. Mrs. McEachren introduced Miss Lura Wandrack, who has worked tirelessly cataloging these artifacts. The members who attended the meeting became more aware of the goals and accomplishments of this group dedicated to preserving the history of McHenry county. Following the program, Mrs. A. B. McConnell and her committee . served refreshments from a table appropriately and attractively decorated with patriotic enYblems. - CARD OF THANKS In this manner I wish to thank all my neighbors, friends and relatives for their visits, cards, flowers and many other kind deeds during my recent illness. (Martha) Freund 3-4-65 Judith FreuncT Becomes Bride A beautiful, late winter wedding was solemnized at St. Mary's Catholic church last Saturday, Feb. 27, uniting in marriage Miss Judith Helena Freund and Mr. Reynaldo Fernandez. Rev. Fr. Eugene Baumhofer officiated at the 11:30 o'clock nuptial rite. Miss Freund, Mio has resided at 526 N. Genesee Street, Waukegan, is the daughter of Mrs. Hugo Kerrberg of 1307 N. Park, McHenry, and the late Mathias Freund, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Fieyna of 319 S. Jackson, Waukegan. The bride' was charming in a dress and train of white peau de soie, with which she wore a satin crown with pearls, to which was attached a fingertip veil. The gown was fashioned by her mother. Attending her were her sister, Nancy Freund, of McHenry^and the groom's sister, Lupe Reyna, ()f Waukegan. They were attired in red velvet, floor length dresses styled with bell skirts. Their headpieces were red net veils with red velvet bows. Ray Ruiz of Waukegan and Rufugio Caagoya of Waukegan were attendants for the bridegroom. Mrs. Keerberg chose for her daughter's weddihg a blue knit suit, while the groom's mother was attired in a beige dress. A wedding dinner was served at 2 o'clock at the K. of C. hall for fifty guests, and later in the afternoon a reception Was held for 150 friends and relatives. After a three-day trip into Chicago, the newlywfds are making their home at 526 N. Genesee, Waukegan. The bride is a graduate of Marian Central high school and is employed in the office of the Chicago Hardware Foundry in North Chicago. The groom is a Waukegan high school graduate and is employed in the shipping department of Business Cards, Inc., also in North Chicago. ST. PAUL LENTEN CLASS SERIES TO START MARCH 10 There will be a serfes of instructions on Wednesday nights during Lent at Saint Paul's Episcopal church, McHenry. They are designed for parishioners and other interested people to refresh their memories or inquire about the Christian religion according to the interpretation commonly found throughout the Episcopal church. The informal classes will be from 7:30 to 9 p.m. as follows: Wednesday, March 10, "Our Family Tree, i.e., The Church and Anglicanism"; March 17, "Our. Text Book, The Bible'; March 24, "Our Work Book, The Prayer Book"; March 31, "Our Tools, The Church Calendar, Ceremonial Vestments etc."; April 4, "Questions and Answers". Anybody is welcome to attend if only to listen, with no obligation. LOCAL SOLDIER CLAIMS BRIDE IN MICHIGAN CHURCH Miss Diane Louise Stanley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Stanley of 28215 Kaufman, Roseville, Mich., became the lovely bride of Mr. Richard Earle" Greig, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Tomasello of 1307 W. Bay road, McHenry. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Fr. Ted Fuzawa in the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Roseville, at noon on Saturday, Feb. 27. The altars of the church were decorated with bouquets of white carnations and ferns and .the Ave Maria was sung while the bride placed a bouquet at the Blessed Virgin's altar. For her wedding the pretty bride wore an all lace dress with iridescent sequins and crystal beads at the neckline and hern, long tapered sleeves, full skjrt, chapel train which was bustled for the reception. A bouffant elbow length veil was held in place by a crown of seed pearls and aurora borealis beads. She carried a crescent shaped bouquet of white carnations, ro^es and ivy centered with a removable white orchid. Mrs. Colleen A. Campau of East Detroit, Mich., attended her friend as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Sherry Stanley, the bride's sister, of Roseville, and Mrs. Pat Ansell of McHenry, the groom's sister. Doris and Sally Tomasello, sisters of the groom, were flower girls. The attendants were attired in mint green organza over taffeta dresses with bell shaped floor length skirts, rounded neckline, elbow length sleeves, with cabbage roses in back at waistline above floating panel. The sleeves and waistlines were trimmed with bands of cluvy lace. They wore headpieces of blusher veils held in place with tiaras of pearls and aurora boreal is beads. The flower girls wore blue street length dresses trimmed with lace on sleeves and the full skirts. Their headpieces were matching Dior bows with blusher veils. They all carried colonial bouquets of white carnations tipped with blue and green and matching streamers. The groom was attended by a friend, Raymond Campau of East Detroit, as bestman and groomsmen, were Dennis Ansell of McHenry, his brother-in-law, and Roger Gritel, a friend. The bride's mother wore a pink suit dress and matching accessories, a pink carnation and white rose corsage at the church and for the reception she was gowned in a powdre blue lace dress with matching accessories. Mrs. Tomasello was attired in a blue suit and matching accessories for the church service and wore a blue crepe dress with matching accessories during the evening. A pink carnation and white rose corsage completed her costume. Thursday, March 4- m MISS OPPENHEIM !>"*• RECEIVES CAP AT NURSING SCHOOL ROLLER SKATING ON FAMILY NIGHT YMCA PROGRAM The fourth Lake - Region YMCA Family Nite of the winter quarter will be held on Friday, March 5. The main program of the evening will be roller skating at the McHenry Roller Rink. The attendance of families at th^ every other Friday programs has jumped from sever! families to thirteen families, and from twenty-seven persons to fifty persons in six weeks at the Lake Region YMCA Family Nites. Each family nite has begun with supper at the American Legion post in Crystal Lake at 6:45 p.m. and concluded with a program activity from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Girls, boys, women, and men have been participating in the program as members of a growing family activity* The last Family Nite of the winter quarter will be a hootenanny on Friday, March 19. ELIZABETH OPPENHEIM Miss Elizabeth Oppenheim, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Oppenheim of Emerald Park, received her cap from St. Anthony's School of Nurs* ing in ceremonies Friday, Feb. 26, at Cathedral church in Rockford. Elizabeth was graduated from McHenry high school in 1963 and attended Freeport college for a year, taking a liberal arts course before entering nurse's training at St. Anthony's. ; The capping ceremony graduated thirty-eight girls. Elizabeth's rank in class is in the upper ten. At one time in this trial period, she was transferred to special care for a Spanish patient, using her one year of high school Spahish, since no one else on her floor could understand Spanish or the patient. Mr. and Mrs. Oppenheim, Elizabeth's brother, John, and sister; Jody, and internal grandmother, Mrs. Sara Oppenheim, from New York attended the ceremonies on Friday evening. Her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs, L. T. Evans of Indianapolis, In.d, were prevented from attending by the heavy snowstorm that hit Indiana last week.
