Come new, come old-- we want pJl members to join us in an evening of fun. Softball Team Tournament ^ For Men MEN! are we going to let the women outdo us? A group of men in the community have been organizing a softball team tournament. They report that already there are enough men for one team. Should you, men, be interested, kindly call Dick Walinski, 385-6526 after 6:30 p.m. weekdays for further information. Brownie News Our meeting began with a Flag Ceremony, attendance was taken and dues were collected. The girls practiced for the Mother's Tea, which will be held on May 4, at 3:15, at the meeting place. Cub Scout Committee Meeting The Cub committee meeting is scheduled to meet at the community house, on Wednesday evening, May 5, at 8 p.m. The business on hand will be final plans for the kite derby, scheduled for 3 p.m. May 23 at the community house. You boys had better get busy with those kites. There are prizes for the one that goes the highest, the prettiest, etc. All interested parents are invited to come to this meeting and help plan the Cub doings. this item is not official, just a news item I received here and there. Kathy and Donna Humann, Terri Brooks and Patti Rogers took a hike through Cooney Heights Woods last Saturday for credits toward their Gypsy badge. I understand the girls were pretty tired when they arrived home. It is very upsetting to hear that someone would take a flag belonging to someone else, but the Girl Scout flag is still missing from the community house. Please, whoever took their flag, return it immediately. They need it for all of their meet ings and any other activities that would come up. Kiwanis Award JoAnn Rizzo had the' honor of winning the Kiwanis Award at St. Patrick's school. Sympathy Extended- We are certainly saddened to hear about the death of another of our old-timers who lived in the Park, Larry Strandquist. Larry and Helen were on a vacation trip to visit their son, Wayne, in Virginia, but had stopped in Louisiana at Wayne's in-laws home first, when Larry was taken ill. He spent 2 weeks in the hospital in New Orleans, where he was visited by his daughter, Rita Mahoney, of Medford, Ore., and his two sons, Lawrence, Jr., of Western Springs, and Wayne, of Virginia Beach, Va., before passing away. - The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at Peter Justen Funeral Home, with burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Hillside. Sharon Pike Becomes Bride St. Patrick's Catholic church was the setting for a beautiful wedding on Saturday, May 1, when Sharon Pike, daughter of Lorraine and Fred Pike, became the bride of Jim Boger of Mc- Henry. Rev. Fr. Eugene Parker officiated at the nuptial rite. Immediately following the ceremony, the reception was held at the McHenry Country Club. The couple are honeymooning in Florida, and will take up residence in an apartment in town on their return. His leave began on the 30th of April, giving him just enough time yto get home for his sister's wedding. On the 15th of May he will report to Grand Forks; N. D. . Jeanette Hertzog has been having a wonderful vacation in her home state, Pennsylvania. Her better half is at home keeping the home fires burning. Hope you had a grand time Jeanette. Pat Linnane has returned to her home and family after a week at McHenry hospital. We both hope you're feeling much better. We really goofed last week when we listed Tom Dawson as having made his First Holy Communion, it was Nancy Dawson. To make matters even worse she doesn't even have a brother named Tom. We are really very sorry Nancy and hope that you will forgive our error. Nancy was honored on her very special religious day by a gathering of twenty of her relatives from various parts of the state. She had a very wonderful day and making it complete was the fact that her brother Airman Second Class Frank was home on leave from his base at MclJill Air Force Base, Tampa, Fla. He had been home since the first of the month and had to leave on Thursday to report back to McDill where he will be transferred to Okinawa. Frank is in the electronics end of the Air Force and will be in service 2 years this August. Our very best wishes go to Frank and all his buddies who we've heard enjoy reading his home town paper weekly and especially our subdivision's column. Glad to hear we provide some reading material for the boys away from home. Hope they continue to enjoy the Plaindealer on "The Rock". Another of the youngsters who was honored on the day he received his First Holy Communion was Gregory Worm. Heard he had a wonderful day. Visitors from the much warmer portion of our state, at the home of Rose and Ed Oswald during the week were life, long friends of Ed's, Armella and Vernie Joseph and their son, Ken. They call Greenville home these days, but were born and raised with Ed. The four enjoyed many games of canasta and sight seeing while they were up here. They also visited with Kay and Ed Druml whom they hadn't seen for 20 years and had their first introduction to the Drumls' two younger sons. They enjoyed their visit but couldn't wait to return home where it is much warmer. Our best get-well wishes go to Jane Grothman who entered Harvard hospital on Sunday for surgery. Sure Jane would enjoy hearing from her many friends in the subdivision. Jane has been going through a great deal of pain and we know how much she enjoys bowling and her hospital stay will prevent her from bowling in her last two weeks of the league. You'll get that trophy next year Jane, Ed Druml was guest of honor at the home of Nedra, Les and Billy Eckhart on Monday of last week. Nedra had "bakefi him a very delicious birthday cake and also gave him a most wonderful baked ham to enjoy on his actual natal day. The "Old Boy" really got in on celebrations this year, Gerry and Lloyd Wagner dropped in to wish him the best and they were all surprised by a surprise birthday party arranged by Mary and Jim Daurio, Dottie and Irv Becker. Everyone had themselves quite a ball. That group usually does. Gerry and Lloyd Wagner attended the very lovely wedding of Sharon Pike on Saturday morning and the reception in the afternoon. It sure is a wonderful sight seeing all the fishermen and women back at the beaches. Hear that some have been getting more than just fish stories to tell. Guess it's safe to say that spring is finally here or is it summer? Which ever it is, it's sure very welcome. Lorraine Gulickson was a busy girl last week when she was guest of honor at two wedding showers. On Tuesday, Edna Ayers was hostess at the home of Lorraine's mother, Mrs. Beahler, with Pat Gilbertson, Linda Casey, Jean Phillips, Kathy Howard, Cathy Droesser, Jeanine Dember, Grandma Rogers, Sr., Susie Ehrhardt, Lorraine's sister-in-law, Diane Beahler, her mother, Mrs. Beahler and Doris Basel all showering Lorraine with many beautiful gifts. On Thursday, April 29, Lorraine was again showered, this time by a few of her friends from the First Baptist church. Rosemary Chappel and her mother were hostesses with Peggy and Mrs. Brush, Wanda and Sandy Center and Mrs. Beahler attending. A wonderful bowling season was ended, last Saturday when the Lakeland Park bowling league held their banquet at a restaurant in Lilymoor. A delicious dinner was served and was followed up by giving out trophies and awards. Our able M. C. was Jerry Rogers, with Max Koch, Eleanor Haerle, and Bob Matthews giving out the different awards. Hope to see all of you wonderful people again next year; Man's Best Friend Man's best friend has been his dog for many, many years but he isn't always treated as such. Would you leave your best friend run the streets, getting into garbage cans, destroying flowers and shrubs of all your human friends and neighbors? We're sure you wouldn't, then why, oh why do you leave the guardian of your home and family, your friend and companion, the family dog, do all these things. There is never a day that we don't hear from someone abbut the dogs running loose. It shouldn't be. We both have dogs and regard them as part of the family and we wish every dog owner would remember that their family pet should not become a nuisance to the subdivision. Please, everyone who owns a dog, try to keep him from running free and causing havoc. Belated Anniversary Wish I would like to extend a belated anniversary wish to my in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. William Meurer, who celebrated their fortieth year of togetherness Sunday, May 2. They were brought out here from Maywood toy my husband's cousin, Tootie Blum, and his aunt, Laura Peach, also from Maywood. A very enjoyable day was had. Get Well Wishes I almost forgot to send getwell wishes to Kay Druml, my partner in crime, who is taking it easy in Harvard hospital. Hope you will be up and around and feeling much better very soon Kay. I have to admit that I had a little help from my neighbor, Evelyn Osmon, which was greatly appreciated. ' Reminder Remember that garbage fees are now due and should be paid to your block captain or to Edith Barwig. Also, road assessments and association dues. Please get these in very soon. COMPLETE PLANS_ FOR ALL-DAY TRIP BY BIHD LOVERS On Saturday, May 8, the McHenry County Bird Club will make an all-day journey to the Morton Arboretum near Lisle, 111 The trip is planned to coincide with the trip of heavy spring migration of Warblers. These small and beautifully patterned and colored birds are on their way to their northern breeding grounds where they will remain until fall. The Morton Arboretum is an excellent place to view these birds pltffc all the other birds which remain in this area. On last year s trip, sixty species were identified, so club members anticipate good birding again on Saturday's trip. Those making the trip are asked to meet promptly at 9 a.m. at the Thornhill building at the Arboretum, and are to bring a sandwich luncheon. Dessert and coffee will be furnished by the committee. For further information call Mrs. William Carroll, Jr. or Mrs! Ralph Peacock. Guests are always welcome to attend any meeting.
