Thursday* May, & 4965 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Section! Three .~n Page On* MCCULLOM LAKE NEWS EVE LEVESQUE 885-3191 NEWLY ELECTED VILLAGE OFFICERS ARE INSTALLED "Thank you, Jake, for a job well done; The best you gave with all you had. May you, Art, you old 'son of a gun', Be just as good or half as bad."--H.A.B. 4-26-65. Such was the sentiment expressed by Harry Berry and chalked on the bulletin board when the old and new officials of the village took their places, a't a meeting held Monday, April 26, in the beachhouse. Mr. Berry is the custodian and also attended most Qf the board meetings. Before starting with the actual installation of the new officials, . routine reports were made by the various committee heads. President J. R. Levesque addressed the large gathering , of . interested spectators by giving a brief resume of activities prior to and following incorporation, and also the progress made in the past 10 years. He presented outgoing village clerk Emma Pyritz with a beautiful bouquet of flowers in appreciation fpr her devoted and dedicated service to the village. She will also receive a citation suitable for framing. First to be sworn in by President Levesque were new trustees John Boyle, Richard Johnson, Harry Lock and Don Parenti. Next to be commissioned was new clerk -- Mrs. Carol Bateman. Finally, the oath of officers was taken by newly elected president Arthur Stuhlfeier. Mr. Levesque then presented the new president with a gavel as a, symbol of handing over the office. Appropriate remarks were made by members of the board and Mrs. Pyritz. Hold-over trustees include Art Nelson and Rog Kinsey. The next meeting will be held Monday, May 10, at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. Bond Issue Defeated But Passed Here Although the high school bond issue was defeated in the area by some 200 votes, it received approval here 96 to 61. There were 160 ballots cast with three spoiled. One, because of a check mark, another x-ed for no with No written on the ballot, and one voter spoiled his or her ballot hy voting .-against and then writing "why $3,200,000?" Judges for the election were Emma Pyritz, Elma Nelson, and Marge Olsen with Jack Vick serving as a watcher. Diane Bjork Elected To National Honor Society . One of the most outstanding seniors in our village -- blonde and lovely Diane Bjork, was elected to the National Honor Society last Wednesday, April 28. The ceremony took place at the high school before a complete assembly of students, hi. H. S. members are chosen on four points -- leadership, scholarship, service and character. Diane would receive 4.0 on all counts! We have watched this young woman's growth and maturity for the past 12 years and it hgs truly been a privilege. With the fate of our country's future in the hands of yoUng people such as Diane and her many fine contemporaries, it seems a bit futile to worry about the minority of "bad apples". Rummage Sale Coming Up The gals will meet in general session next Thursday, May 13, at 8 p.fri. in the beachhouse. At this time, further plans will be made for the annual rummage sale to be held May 29. While you are housecleaning, please reserve outgrown clothing in good condition and any other useful small items which may be a "white elephant" to you but could be a boon and a blessing to some one else. More on this subject later. Report from the Cullom-Knoll There were fifteen members present for the first '65 meeting of the organization. President Kinsey read the audit of the books prepared by Art Stuhlfeier, Ole Olsen and Bonny Egerstaffer. After the sad state of the treasury was revealed, club members voted approval to raise the rental of the beachhouse to $6.50 per meeting for all individuals, organizations, and the village board except the Ladies of the Lake. This club exempted from the increase because of its many monetary contributions to the community including the soon to be installed new floor tile. The chances of having a summer festival this year are practically nil since no one is willing to accept the chairmanship. Mr. Kinsey appointed an "idea" committee to formulate some type of fund raising program. They are chairman Frank Kurth, Bill Walter, Art Stuhlfeier and Barbara Thacker and will report to the club next meeting--June 6. Your reporter was appointed chairman of the annual Memorial Day program,, set for Monday, May 31. Cullom-Knoll Needs Your Help The very life's blood of the Cullom-Knoll Association is running out and if it does, there will be no maintenance of the beach and park. This is YOUR beach and YOUR park! What are YOU going to do about it? The general apathy of our residents may turn our park into a public one. Is this YOUR desire? There are some 300 families living in the village with most of the population using the beach facilities, but less than 100 families being paid up members. And worse--a mere handful of people show for the meetings and do the work! You can correct the situation by sending or bringing six dollars (for a year's membership) to Mrs. Gail Johnson, Secretary --4911 W. Orchard Drive in the next week. You will truly be getting back much more than you will be giving. Thanks, in advance. HONDA Erudite Fowl Petey Schmidt called to report the ingenuity of four domestic mallards that invaded the home of a summer resident. Seems as though the birds left bed and board of the Ray De- Witt family and set up residence in an unoccupied home, utilizing the water in the basement for a private swimming pool! They were gone from their improvised natatorium Monday morning and it is presumed they returned to their owners. JOHN MEGLEY JOINS HONORARY BUSINESS SOCIETY DOR8 We ask all the residents of the Terrace and surrounding area to please keep their dogs on a leash or in their own area. There are a number of strays wandering around, and some have been seen eating rabbits. Please don't let your animals wander like this as one of them may become ill or perhaps in this weather bother the children who are playing outside, or unintentionally snap at them and cause a lot of harm. 885-7X50 Terrace Tidings JM Two of the most outstanding performances were recently given by two of the young Terrace residents. They were Danny Turner and Jeanniejo Benoche, who were recently seen in a play at McHenry, which proved to be a huge success.
