John tells us that Ray Miller is still managing the Richmond team and has some good, young ball players. They are playing* an Old Timers game at Richmond next Sunday, to be followed by the Richmond-Shamrock game at 3 o'clock. PAT'S HONOR PLAYERS AND CHEERLEADERS Last Wednesday evening, May 12th, the annual St. Patrick's School Athletic banquet sponsored by the Holy Name Society was held at the V.F.W. hall. The excitement of the evening was generated by the prer sentation pf school letters to the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who had actively participated in basketball as players or as cheerleaders. The fine backing received from Father Parker, the parents and interested parishioners made the banquet a success. Bill Pictor was M.C. for the occasion and introduced Coach Miller who in turn recognized the successful efforts of Coach Clarence Schaefer and Coach Gene LaFontaine. The trophies, the letters, and the warm congratulations of Father Parker assi^red the success of the occasion. In behalf of the varsity, Pat Long very capably presented Coach Miller with a token of their sincere appreciation. As an encore from last year, Coach Tom Parsley of Marian Central was introduced. His sincere interest in young people and enthusiasm for the part sports can play in their lives captured everyone's attention. Coach Parsley is also direct enough to leave no doubt in anyone's wind on the responsibility of the parents and of the school to direct the actions and the thinking of students rather than let them mold their own pattern. We had real fine pitching from Vern Petersen and Russ Cox, but Richmond had a few scratch hits and our sloppy fielding cost us the ball game. We left our hitting clothes home Sunday. Gene Freund had 2 for 3 and Vern Petersen had 1 for 1. Vern Petersen had to leave after two were out in the fourth inning when his arm tightened up and he couldn't throw any more. It is one of 205 sucrijamborees being held throughput th£ state. First place winners in each event at the local level advance to sectional competition and sectional winners receive an expense-paid trip to the' state meet. McHenry winners will take part in the Cary sectional on July 17, competing against winners from eighteen other meets in a seven-county area. An estimated 60,000 children will participate in the program this year, with 650 going all the way to the -<§tate finals. Entry blanks for the McHenry meet may be obtained from Ed. Sobotkiewicz of McHenry Junior high school, Don Seat on of McHenry high school, Robert Miller at St. Patrick's, Robert Hiller at St. John's, James Van Bosch at Johnsburg public school. Bob Hauser at Harrison school, at the office of St. Mary's school, from Mr. Putnam at Landmark or from Lee Hiller at 385-2733. Competition will be in three divisions: Midgets (10 and 111; Juniors (12 and 13); and Intermediates (14 and 15). The division is determined by the contestant's age as of Aug. 31 of current year. There is no entry fee and contestants will not be required to wear track shoes or provide special equipment. Johnsburg scored in the eighth inning when Jack Schaefer led off with a ground ball to the shortstop, who made an overthrow to first .base allowing Jack to advance to third. On that weekend beautiful Bangs Lake will be the scene of the annual Wauconda Sail Boat Regatta. Off to a successful "first" last year, the regatta is expected to attract considerably more attention among boating enthusiasts for this year's event. Chairman Paul Mulvaney reports that inquiries from propective participants have been coming in thick and fast. Already indications are that there will be close to 75 skippers vieing for honors. Competition will be held in five classes -- Snipers, Sunfish, Penguins, Bufterflys and SK-12. In addition there will be an open class race. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third in each class. Also there will be a trophy for outstanding skipper. The faces will be governed by rules of the N.A.R.U. Registration will he held both Saturday and Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. at the Wauconda Village Beach. Racing begins at one p.m. on Saturday and at 10:50 a.m. on Sunday. FORTY REGISTER FOR PISTAKEE BOYS' LEAGUE Registration for all boys in the Pistakee Boys' League was held last Sunday afternoon. McHenry Country Club &L\vot 2WK Motorcycle Races At Elkhorn, May 30 A large entry of professional motorcycle racers are expected for the Five Star program to be held at the Walworth County Fairgrounds in Elkhorn on Memorial Day, Sunday May 30th. Races will be held in three different classes, Novice (first year racers) Amateur (middle class) and Expert (top classification in professional racing). \ Sunday's program will get ^underway at 12:30 with time trials and the first race set at 2 p.m. The event is being sponsored by Professional Motorcycleing, Inc., in co-operation with the Elkhorn Junior Chamber of Commerce. CAMP-O-RAMA SUCCESS The Millstream Campers first annual Camp-O-Rama was reported to be a fine success, due to the efforts of members and friends of the organization. Liz Nolan, Em Smithson,' Lil Kimball, and Jane Weiss. Adding tvt-o goats to their established herd of five, were Bell Vitense and Dot Freund. To the losers, well, next week--just "go-go-goats". - The low net event for the day was tied in class A by Dee Overton and Lil Kimball with an 82; Sully Consago came in with a 90 in class B. and Nell Fidler with an 89 in class C. Approach .shots were sunk from all angles, as Marion Donnelly dropped one into cup number 2 and again into cup 10. Then Evie Hans also showed her skill on number 2, and that tricky cup on number 6. Our last weeks low putters showed them how, when Bette Moss only took 13 in class A, Sully Consago 15 in class B, and Marianne Cristy 16 in Class C. The ringer tournament started this week and will gain in popularity as the weeks fly by. Don't forget the two ball foursome coming up May 23 for ladies and men only, with dinner dance following. Sounds like fun, so sign up that man of yours. Also the best ball threesome (for girls only) is set for May 25--so it looks like the beginning of a good golf season for the divot dolls. MCHS Freshman Track Meets The McHenry Freshman Track Team participated in the Dundee Invitational Relays on May 12, and placed seventh out of 14 schools. The boys who received points were: 100 yard dash: John Todd--3rd; 880 yard run: Rajesh Aiwa--3rd; pole vault: John Todd--2nd; mile relay team: Vint Alderson, Rick Tomlinson, Rich Oleszczuk ,and Rajesh Aiwa--2nd. Then on May 14, the MCHS Freshmen, Track Team played host to Algonquin and Lakewood for a triangular meet. McHenry won it with a score of 66'a, while Lakewood scored 63 Va points and Algonquin scored 17. Points were given for the first four places.
