Thursday, May 27, 1965 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Section Two -- Page Om LAKELAND PARK NEWS BARB MEUREB -- KAT DRVML S8MSS8 CLEAN-UP DAYS SCHEDULED FOR SUBDIVISION We have been asked to let our readers know of the comin&. dates scheduled as clean-up the subdivision days. June 5 Sthd'6 have been named as the dates and it is hoped that every member of the subdivision will not only clean up his own yard, but any vacant lot next to his property. The weed cutters will be starting soon and it would be of great benefit to them if the empty lots were elear of debris. Weed cutting this year will be doubly important because of the expected increase in the amount of mosquitoes due to all of the damp? ness besides making our subdivision look much neater. „ Anything you pick up should be placed with your garbage on June 10 and it will be picked up along with your regular garbage pickup^ . The officers and board members of the Lakeland Park Property Owners association are trying very hard to make Our subdivision a wonderful place to live, now let's back their efforts and show them that we care also by cleaning up all of the vacant lots. We have also been asked to remind our residents that garpage should be placed in metal containers. Bags will no longer be picked up, as dogs get into them and spread the contents all over and the garbage men are not suppose to be picking up garbage other than that in containers. Bags also become wet from rain and dampness and once again garbage is loose pn the ground so let's all get containers (big enough ones) and use them, paper bags are taboo. Little League .. For those who get their papers on Wednesday, there is a little league open meeting at the community house tonight, May 26, at 7:30 p.m. We hope that all fathers who have boys in little league this year will make an effort to come out tonight. .. The first major Little League game of the season' will be played on Thursday, June 10, with the Orioles playing the Tigers. The games start at 6:30 p.m. Starting next week we will write the schedule for the following week as well as the scores when we get them. Men's Softball Team Dick Walinski and Ron Braun are still interested -in starting a men's softball team but haven't heard from too many men yet. If you are interested why don't you give one of them a call and let them know so they can plan accordingly. Lakeland Park Woman's Club The Woman's club last meeting for the summer will be held next Thursday, June 3, to avoid any conflict of graduations. We hope we have a good turnout The main business at hand will be our smorgasbord which is coming up the day before Father's day to give every wife a chance to treat her favorite man to dinner out on her budget. Tickets will be sold in advance and will be sold for a certain serving time so we won't have the long wait like last year. Get your tickets early if you want a special time as only so many will be seated at a time. The date is June 19 at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Come out for a delicious meal. Girl Scouts On May 17 the Girl Scouts did not have a meeting. Mrs. Dowell said if we want to go to Day Camp, she must have three volunteer mothers who will go. If the mothers want to bring their little children, there is a nursery for them. On May 18 the Girl Scouts were invited to the telephone Co. from 6 to 8:30. We saw telephone of the future, telephones for -people who can't talk, and some people explaining things to us. Mrs. Schabow,' Mrs. Arient and Mrs. Johnson drove the Girl Scouts there. Respectfully submitted Debbie Foszcz, scribe. Girl Scout Day Camp I was asked to mention that the Girl Scouts would like old broom handles or brooms and old sheets to be used for projects at day camp this summer. Any one caring to donate either of these two items can drop them off at the Doherty residence at 1410 Green street or can be given to Mrs. Johnson or Mrs. Dowell, in the subdivision. Anyone who could spare a week of their time from June 28 through July 2 both the Girl Scouts and the Brownies could use you. The Brownies need one more mother to go along with them to day camp and the Girl Scouts need three. Of course, you don't have to have a girl to volunteer your services. Brownies The Brownies opened their meeting with the flag ceremony and taking of dues and attendance. They read from their Brownie handbook. For their activity the giria tore paper dolls out of newspaper and told stories about them. Mary Human served treat and Susan McMillan was chosen hostess for this week. The girls learned a new song and sang some of the old ones. The meeting closed with the magic tunnel. New Baby Our congratulations go to Rosemary and Frank Holas on the birth of their second son, Frank Joseph, on May 11 at Harvard hospital. Frank was a little premature and weighed in at 3 lbs. and 15 oz. Anxiously waiting for him to come home are his brother, Bobby, and his sisters, Debbie, Sharee Lynn, Bridget and Agnes. We certainly hope you soon weigh enough to join your family, i j n. letting. in an old place ... 99 "Port O' Call Cocktail Lounge & Restaurant OUR WEEKLY SPECIALS! Hope everything turns out for the best, Virginia. Aggie Prazak is home from the hospital after undergoing tests last week. Hope you're feeling better real soon Agnes. Bobby Hodges celebrated his tenth birthday with ice cream and cake being served to Pam and Debbie Foszcz, Susie Gerstad, Kevin Hahndorf, Randy Koczor, LeRoy Geske, and Mike and Patty Smith. William Bockman, Sr., had a birthday picnic Sunday with his family joining in the celebration. His daughter, Mrs. Norman Geis, and family were out, Ann and Rich Wohnrade and family and Bill and Betty Bockman and family both from the subdivision were over and his other grandchildren from Batavia all joined the festivities. Pete Murphy celebrated his sixteenth birthday by going to get his drivers permit oh that very important day. Grandma Rizzo also celebrated her birthday with Jo and Paul and family on Sunday although her birthday was on Saturday. Mark Webber celebrated his sixth birthday pirate style with invitations being sent in the shape of a map. The children all wore eye patches and regular pirate hats while they went out on a treasure hunt in their neighborhood. When they got back for refreshments, the cake was in the shape of a treasure chest. It sounds like a most exciting and unusual birthday party. Community House Schedule PLEASE! If there are any organizations disbanding for the summer let Jo Rizzo know in advance so she can notify Mr. Thelges and also that lets it free for someone else who might want to rent. Jo's number is 385-2728. Wednesday, May 26--Little League open meeting 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 31 Girl Scouts 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 1 Boy Scouts 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 3--Woman's club 8:30. Women of the Moose Go Ahead... Go Cadillac! Before you buy any car at any price, consider a Cadillac first of all. New or previously owned, a Cadillac is the one way to be sure your investment will buy the most and last the longest. Whatever you have budgeted for your next car, your Cadillac dealer has a Cadillac to fit your plans. Naturally, if your choice were unrestricted, you would, prefer a new 1965 Cadillac like the Sedan deVille in front. Next best would be a late-model, previously-owned Cadillac such as the black 1963 Sedan dc Villc, above. A well-maintained; one-owner used Cadillac is actually the only real rival of a new Cadillac. Because of the popularity of the 1965 model, your authorized dealer is the one logical place to go for the best selection of fine used Cadillacs. The reason? Election of officers. The polls were open about an hour before the meeting was called to order by Ethel Hagberg, our senior regent. While the election committee counted the ballots, the minutes of the previous meeting were read by Gloria Flanigan, recorder, then two new members were voted on. The ballot proved favorable. The election committee then announced the results of the election. For senior regent" it was Eunice Tobey; for junior regent, Nancy Mieritz; for chaplain, Carrie Sesko; for recorder, Eileen Hodgson; for treasurer, Ila Hogan. Congratulations co-workers. Ethel Wolf^won the special award and Hazel Struwe was named for the attendance award. Nancy Mieritz and her committee were in charge of the serving of the food and entertainment for the evening. The date for the installation has been set for the June 29, Nedra's mother, Mrs. Chamblin. Hope the weather is nice for your stay. We should all drop in on Jack Hertzog out at the chain store he works for in Barrington and congratulate him on his promotion to manager. Hope your better wishes go to Rose and Ed Oswald who are both being plagued by very bad coughs and colds. the fifth Tuesday, at 8:30 p*m.
