In an hour or so they shou'd be as fresh as whe.i gathered. Q. Can you suggest a gooc' repair for the cloth on m\ pool table, which has becomi worn on the cushions? A. You can repair this with adhcfive tape in practically Invisible style. F irst, cut the tape to sixe, then work It un der the tear in the cloth with the adhesive side towards the cloth. Next, carefully pull the torn edges of the cloth together, then press firmly against the tape. ^ Q. How can I improvise white ink for writing on the bktak pages of a photo album? .S?'White shoe polish does a good job. Shake the bottle well, dip your pen into It, and oftentimes this writes even more clearly than the real thing itself. Q. How can I prevent spaghetti or macaroni from sticking to the bottom of the pan in which it is cooked? A. By lightly greasing the Inside of pan before putting the water on to boil. Q. Please suggest a way I can remedy screw holes that have become so worn that the threads will not hold. A. A small amount of steel wool packed tightly into the holes will usually make the screws hold tightly. Another method is to insert a wooden kitchen match into the worn crew hole, theu drive your screw back into this. Q. How can I make an easy job of cementing wood and metai together with household cement? A. Soak the metal piece in aceton, being careful not to touch the surface after soaking -- and your household cement will make a good bond. Q. How can I make a pineapple filling for cake? A. Ml\ "iip cup of grate:' pineapple, one-half cup of pulverized sugar, and one tablespoon of lemon juice. Q. How can I remove axlegrease stains from- clothing? A. I'nlers the spot contains dirt, carbon tetrachloride doer [ the trick quickly. Should the S iln appear rather heavy, lubricate it first with white min eral oil, then fluih from the fabric with carbon tetrachloride. You Can combat air pollution by: being careful how, you burn trash; making sure your furnice is not contributing to the problem; and getting exhaust control devices put on your car as soon as possible. APPROVE MEAT BILL The Illinois General Assembly has approved a bill that will assure shoppers that meat products are as good as they appear to be through their cello phane wrappers. According tc the bill, meat or meat product, would be considered adulteratec ;f they contain any artificia coloring matter. The bill alsu prohibits the use of "transparent" wrappings, packages, or casings that\are colored and are misleading as to the color* or quality of the products inside.. JOHN ZAVODNY 885-3159 i Three outstanding seniors in music were recognized for tfceir achievements at the spring music festival last Thursday, in , which about 250 young people participated. Diane Langdon. winner of the band Arion award, began playing oboe in Crystal Lake grade school, quickly- moving up to the concert band. She continued playing in the Crystal Lake band during her freshman year. When the Langdons moved to Island Lake, Diane was accepted in the McHenry high school marching and concert bands. After attending two summers at the University of Illinois Music Camp, she moved to first chair in the concert band and in her senior year was elected by the band members to the position of student band director. She holds seven first place medals and three second place medals in state competition, two being earned for a solo and ensemble in competition last March. Diane has been accepted at the Western Illinois University at Macomb and as she mentioned recently, "I expect to take my oboe along". Sara Borchardt follows in the footsteps of a musical family. Her sister,1 Jean, and brother4, Paul, became well known during their M.C.H.S. days for their vocal ability. Twice Winner Possessed with a large, beautiful contralto voice, she has won two blue ribbons during •the three years she has entered state solo contests in high school. She was also a member of the 1964 state winning girls' sextet. The young lady, who has entertained at various programs in recent years, was named "most musical" in her class by a vote of her fellow students and will be so honored in the 1965 Annual. Sara, a member of the National Honor Society, will enter the University of Illinois next fall. Although she will not major in music, she hopes for a professional career in the vocal field upon graduation. Ray Spohr has been a member of the chorus four years, 'and distinguished himself as the first four-year member of the boys' quartet. The ensemble has been a state winning group for three of the four ^ears. . In addition to his ensemble Xvork, Ray has won a number pf second place awards, some Jfor his solo work in competition. ' A member of the National 'Honor Society, he will enter jMarquette university next fall, where he will be enrolled in the School of dentistry. COUNTY WINNERS OF SCHOLARSHIPS ARE ANNOUNCED Winners of the University of Illinois scholarships in McHenry- county have been reported to Richard L. Tazewell, county superintendent of Schools, who accepted application for these scholarships last February. Five scholarships are available in McHenry county, awarded on the basis of scores made on the ACT examination given last November 7, They exempt the winners from tuition fees for a period of four years. The scholarships are: Special County, Agriculture, Home Economics, Child of a Veteran of World War II, Child of a Veteran of Korean Conflict. For McHenry counfy the winners this year were: Agriculture, Jack David Clark. Wonder Lake; Home Economics, Shirley Ann Wittlief, Marengo; Child of a Veteran of World War I, Maureen Grace O'Brien, Crystal Lake; Child of a Veteran of World War II, Jeanne Marie Kalvelage, Crystal Lake; Child of a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, Richard James Turner, Woodstock. These scholarships can be used only at the University of Illinois and are in addition to the General County Scholarship winners previously announced who can use their scholarship at any of the six state-supported universities in Illinois.
