Riverside Drive Phone 385-0841 OPEN NOW from 7 a.m. 'til closing his informative discussion by asking the question "If you had a fire in your home, what plans have you made with your family?" Statistics ?have shown a large number of unnecessary deaths occur due to a member of the family returning into a fire to rescue a member of the family that has already reached safety, it is important to choose a safe meeting place in the event of a fire so that family members can be accounted for. In 1952 the Wonder Lake fire department disannexed' from the McHenry fire protection district to form a district of their own. In 1959 High4- land Shores disannexed from the Woodstock district to combine with the Wonder Lake fire department. Through the years this has resulted in considerable cooperation from bath sides of the lake. In 1962 the department purchased $33,000.00 worth of new equipment under a five year obligation. Lack of water is the main problem. Additional water is obtained from Oak wood Shores where they have hydrants, Morton Chemical Plant at Ringwood and the creek. The fire department is a municipality, and has taxing powers. Its income comes from these taxes and its sponsored activities. Chief O'Brien stated the important factor in adequate protection is the volunteer men themselves of which this district has forty-three. They receive training from the University of Illinois. 75 percent of these men have received advanced first aid training also. These men receive no salaries, they themselves have voted not to, until this district has the finest equipment bought and paid for. They have set up a system of dues they pay themselves to financially aid a fireman that has been injured. The major outbreak of fires in this area are in the stove heated homes. After a call is received alerting the department of a fire in a two mile radius, a truck will be on the scene in seven to ten minutes. LAKEMOOR- LILYMOOR SHIRLEY SCHUERR 885-2645 Local Ladies Tour Capitol Connie Johnson, accompanied by Jo Bart el t of Lilymoor, Boots Davis, Ann Orgler and Mttzie Griffith of McHenry, motored to Springfield as delegates to the Illinois Federation Spring* Conference. Connie and Jo attended the Industrial Affairs Senate Committee hearing, while Boots, Ann and Mitzie kept an appointment with Ray Page, Supt. of Public Instruction. It was very interesting, learning how the Senate committees either kill or recommend, "do pass" on legislation bills. They, spent half a day at the Capitol, and managed to visit Lincoln's home, the museum, and the railroad station where Lincoln uttered the last words he ever spoke in Springfield as he departed on Feb. 11, 1861. They also had the opportunity of speaking with many Senators, among them Senators Hatch, Graham, Arrington, Sours, and C. L. McCormick. On the way home they made a stop at Lincoln, 111., the only town named for Lincoln, where they visited the Postville Courthouse. This also served as a church and public meeting place. 'Court Week" was a general holiday. Just standing, looking at Lincoln's desk, is awe inspiring. One can feel the greatness of the man. The girls came back with a feeling of pride in their American heritage! Ladies League Held their social evening A question and answer period followed before the meeting was adjourned and coffee and delicious refreshments were donated and served by the Wonderview Women's auxiliary. Wednesday, May 19. Bunco was played. Winners were Diane Dember, Sophie Paterson and Lu Gravenstuk. Booby prize went to Rose Zelenka.
