HOIKS Monday thru Friday "2 p.rtAto 8 p.m. Saturday 1 p:ra. to 5 p.m. J ' 1 "Tl:e Honey Badger" by Robert Riiark Ro!;er! Ruruk's name lias always spelled adventure, but he found it largely'-in the jungles of Africa and India. In this superb new novel he examines another jungle, that of contemporary American civilization. A proud man is Alec Barr, an American writer. He is a timid man occasionally forced to bravery, a strong man occasionally prone to weakness, and a successful man perpetually beset by self doubt. Alec Barr's accomplishments at 40, from a standing start of nowhere, should have been enough to satisfy any man. He has shot his lion, won his prizes, fought his war, made his money, acquired his penthouse, married, drunk his fair share of convivial booze. Alec Barr needs two things, the loving company of women and to be left alone with his one true love, the battered typewriter that lifted him from office boy to national acclaim as correspondent, novelist, and playwright. But one need wars against the other, but no woman could ever come between Alec and his typewriter. In prose as lean, masculine and muscular as his hero, Ruark traces Alec Barr through New Yorj<, London and the Congo, to his., ironic end. There are bombs and full fights, rich restaurants, elephant hunts, movie sets, and the garish excitement of wartime Washington. At the center of it all, there Is the superbly successful American male of the mid-twentieth cen* tury in desperate search of himself. "Day* of Shame" by Senator Charles E. Potter Here, at long last, is the inside story of the Army -McCarthy hearings. For the first time ^a key member of the McCarthy committee reveals what went on behind the scenes, in the committee room, in the Senate cloak room and •n the White House. Written with extraordinary candor by 'he man who reported personally 1 o President Eisenhower on the daily events of the hearngs. "Days of Shame" is the long-awaited, dramatic re-enactment of one of the most disgraceful episodes in Congressional history. •Only a man in Senator Potter's position could have written this book. He frankly discusses the deals, the infighting, I he personalities and the issues. No holds are barred. For this is a bold, hard-hitting book that is as frank and courageous as the man who wrote it. A prominent political figure since 'lie end of World War II, Charles E. Potter became United States Senator from Michigan in 1952. He came to this position with a background of service in the House of Representatives, in the U.S. Army, ind in the work of family and individual rehabilitation and social service. A much decorated veteran of the war, Senator Potter suffered serious wounds that resulted in the loss of both lower limbs. "Bonded Fleming" by Ian Fleming A James Bond Omnibus Here, in one volume, are three of Ian Fleming's fabulous books about the most popular of contemporary secret service agents, James Bond. This omnibus of Bond's exotic adventures includes "For Your Eyes Onto" a Gdfeciion of elettes, originally 1960. Thttifffetf&iHll, appeared in 196l and is: latest James Bond film, is^e of Fleming's best novels. JfJxilike any other of the Fleming novels, 'The Spy Who Ltfved Me," 1962, is the first person story of a young woman Wjio is involved with James Bond both romantically and peri|cHMMRS. TOM DAVIS.' R-ELECTED HEAD! GOP WOMAN'S CLt At their November njieeting, members of the McH^rfry Township Republican Women's club elected new officers to serve until their terms ej^jire in January of 1967. Mrs. Tom (Boots) Davis was elected 'to a second term in the office of president. Other officers exacted were Mrs. Jake (Coimle) Johnson, first vice- presidjfeiht; Mrs. Grant (Gerry) Ernst, Second vice president; Mrs. Saita (Mary Lou). Owen, secretary; Mrs. Ted (Helen) Wickman, treasurer., The ladies wil| be officially installed when j the club resumes its meetingi in February of 1966. Following a very enjoyable demonstration of flower arranging by Mrs. William Kelly of Woodstock, Helen Haynes jWas surprised with a gift from|:her fellow members of tfie Republican Women's club. She had served as treasurer for four years, and declined to accept nomination for further office. Her dedication to the demanding duties in her service' as treasurer were much appreciated, and the hope was ^expressed that although she w^uld no longer be a member of |the board of the club, she would continue to support its n^any activities. • Meetings will resume in February, and thereafter, the third Tuesday of each month. Anjfone desiring to become a meniber of the McHenry Township Republican Women's club is j invited to send her dues to Connie Johnson, Box 361, Henry, or contact Mrs. Davis. -- fgjtdktmg imr jwmtihertaiU CkrUttwmmm Ss Here9# why you'll want to^ fgp, select a k personalized Masterpiece On display right now at our shop !s this year's toew eolWtkn if fas, imprinted Christmas greetings hy Masterpiece Studios.
