The property was purchased from Mrs. Clark for the sum of one thousand dollars. Trustee Allan McKim handled the details. The new addition will measure approximately 100 feet by 40 feet with die kitchen and bathroom facilities remaining in the old portion. These details were discussed, at the general meeting held Sunday, Dec. 5, in the beachhouse. Sixteen officers and members were on hand. "Receiving its share of attention was the forthcoming ice fishing derby scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 12 and 13. We know how proud the entire family is of their 21 year old who is risking his life to preserve our freedom and that of the rest of the world!! "Can't Happen Here"-- But it Did!!! While the Vycital tribe--Henrietta, Harold, Laurene and Dorene--were staying at the home of Henrietta's brother and family in Adelanto, Calif., the weather became ominous with the conditions we have experienced many times. Henrietta's comment, "Well, if we were back home, I'd say there was a tornado near here". The response from the relatives-- Ordith and Harry Dahms was% o, we have never had one", nen they turned on the radio, the announcer was describing the first tornado in that part of the country s history! According to Henrietta, there were hign winds but no great amount of damage. The. above experience occurred when the V. lamiiy flew to California to spend the Thanksgiving holiday. The trip consumed eight days, leaving one Tuesday and returning the next. . The Dahms' home is located near George A.F. Base On the Mojave Desert atop the San bernadino mountain range. Henrietta had not seen her brother ior 10 years. Thanksgiving Day, they ventured up to Kajon Pass beyond the town of Wright wood which reaches an elevation of 4,25a feet. With three inchs of snow, they had a great time playing in it. The next day, the group motored to Capistrano, to La Jolla, and then to San Diego where Henrietta finally met the Baxters. Delightful couple with whom Harold spent his free time when he was in the service during World War II. They saw the grey whales migrating at Oceanside and rode the ferry to Coronado Island and visited the Coronado Hotel which is over 100 years old. A great thrill for the family was traveling to Indio (only place yrhere dates are grown in the U.S.) and to Palm Springs where they viewed the internationally famous Racquet Club and all the other "poshy" places in Palm Springs. All but Henrietta took the tram at San Jacinto which climbs from 800 feet to 8000 feet just about straight up for one mile. It is called the "stairway to the stars". Greatest excitement and worth the entire trip for the two little gals was having their pictures taken with Trigger and Buttermilk (the famous Roy Rogers' horses) in Apple Valley. From there, they proceeded to Calico and viewed the largest silver producing mine in the country. It is still being worked some, but has become mainly a tourist attraction with the town being reconstructed as it was in the 19th century. During their stay on the west cost, the family drove a total of 1,500 miles for a trip never to be forgotten. They returned on Tuesday, the 30th, after eight glorious and memorable days. These Things Happen Due to mechanical failure of some of the printing equipment, our last column came out somewhat garbled. Your indulgence and understanding is requested. That is one week, everyone on the staff would like to forget, according to reports. Wee Ballerinas Display Their Talents ' According to residents from the village who attended the ballet extravaganza--"Alice in Wonderland" at the Junior High School last Saturday night, Margie Olsen, Peggy Murray, Dawn McKim, and Daureen Parenti were the undisputed stars! Real community loyalty. But, I guess the little dolls really gave their "all". The performance was wonderful and Nancy Gardiner does a fantastic job with her gals. Daureen and Dawn continued to cavort after the performance we* completed when the two sets of parents fed the girls at a local stop. Former Resident Bags His First Deer A sportsman's dream was realized by Merv Schmitt last Friday morning when he managed to fell his first deer-- a big buck, weighing in at 157 pounds, gutted, according to official scales in Woodstock. He was up at 4:30 a.m. to join his cronies near Richmond, for the hunt. One other ^hunter was also successful. The three day season ended on Sunday, and the Schmitt freezer is bulging with deer steaks, chops, and burge/. Any one for a "deerburger " ? Entertain for Pre-Marltal - Festivities Marie and Greg Burg held the' rehearsal dinner for the bridal party last Friday night in their home. The occasion was the forthcoming marriage of their son, Greg, Jr., and Miss Louise Schiller of Crystal Lake. Details of the wedding appear on the society page of the Plaindealer. Those who attended included the bride and her parents and members. of the wedding party. Aw, We Goofed (Again)! Wasn't hard to be that stupid, but this reporter put Don Vycital in the Navy! , when he really belongs in the Coast Guard. Just prejudiced, that's all. He was so proud of being able to entertain visiting "swabbies" Ed Stacknick and Jim Doran. The error has now been corrected, and maybe we can g6t back in Don's good ,graces. The three met in Hawaii some time ago.
