SHOP IN McHENRY ADVENT SEASON \ RECALLS EARLY 1 HISTORY Of DAR At the beginning of this advent season it is important to remember that when the Daughters of the American Revolution was founded seventy- five years ago, it was a distinctly religious, as well as a patriotic organizaton. And so it has been through the years. When the cornerstone of the DAR headquarters in Washington, D.C. called Continental hall was laid, the first article placed in the copper box by a DAR representative was a Holy Bible which had belonged to a Revolutionary soldier. Each year a theme is chosen, from the Bible, This year it is from Corinthians: "Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty." At the Kishwajukee trail chapter meetings of DAR the regent, Mrs. Grant McDonald of Crystal Lake leads the group in the pledge of allegiance which includes "one nation under God". As chaplain, Mrs. John McConnell of Woodstock offers a prayer.
