Thursday* December 9,1965 Blades Play Hockey At Polar Dome In the opening game of the season, the McHenry Blades fought to a 5 all tie with the Chicago Clippers in a game at the Fox Valley Stadium. Spotty defense and penalties probably cost the Blades a victory. It was during these lapslfc* in the- play of the Blades that the Clippers were able to get their, goals. There were a few bright spots however, for the Blades in the game. One was when the Blades scored' while they were short handed.. Also, goalie Jim Herman came up with many key saves"'to help preserve a tie for the team. One of his most important stops of the night was in the last seconds of the game wben-he saved on a breakaway. But the hero of the night award has to go to Rich Albright who scored the tieing goal in the last minute and one half of the game; Rich beat the goalie with a slap" shot from about eight feet in front of the cage, a real thing" of beauty. The team plays its games at the tox Valley Stadium (formerly Polar Dome), in Dundee, Illinois. The Blades play every Sunday night at 8:00 p.m. Admission to all the games is free, so we'll expect to see all of you hockey fans at the game next Sunday night at 8:00 p.m. Blades Win First Game ; The . McHenry Blades Hockey Team- won its first game of the young season 8-2. The game is a complete turn-about from lart weeks 5-5 tie. Both the offensive and defensive games went well. Most of the first period was scoreless and it appeared as though* neither team was going to brN?§k lose. However the end of tfuLpcriod, Nick Iannella put one by°the goalie for the Blades first jy?ore. He was assisted by Dan --Gianotti. Another quick score"'before the buzzer ending the ijjcg period was chalked up by Rich Albright, assisted by Tim TTeund. The Blades completely controlled the second stanza. Mike . Mecko scored and was assisted by Joe Schultz, Rich Albright the scored again unassisted. The ,final score of the period was by Dan Gianotti, assisted by F^nk Lobaza. The Blades went-Anto the final period with a 5 lead. Tv$£'quick goals were scored by the Blades in the final period. Rich Albright completed the fial Trick with his third of the night. He was assisted by John Sawkiw. Mike Mecko assisted Tim Freund for the second* goal of the period. With , the SiSErre 7-0, the Blazers came back-with two scores. The final goal t*f the game was accomplishecj^ with a 30 ft. slap shot by John Sawkiw. Jirrr Herman, Blades goalie, playejj another fine game in the nets for the Blades.
