S#ctten Two--Pagt Two THE McHENRY PLA1NDEALER Thursday, January 157,1986 McCullom Lake Mews EVE LEVE8QUE 385-SI91 POLICE CHIEF SAYS NEW LAWS AFFECT VILLAGERS As a public service, Chief of Police Earl Murray submits the following new laws which became effective Jan. 1 or will become effective in the near future. On and after Mar. 1, 1966, any motor vehicle (passenger». of vintage 1961 and up, must be equipped with two front seat belts. On and after Jan. 1, 1966, the driver's license of any young person subject to the curfew laws of the state is invalid during the period • they are subject to curfew. This is between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sundays through Thursdays, and between the hours of .midnight and 6 a.m., Fridays and Saturdays, and persons under the age of 18 are so subject. On and after Jan. 1, 1966, it is unlawful for any person to oceupy a house trailer while it is in motion. An older law which has been in effect for several years but which is consistently violated, is 1he one which forbids the driving of a vehicle with parking lights only turned on; the display of lighted parking lights must be only when the vehicle is stopped, not in motion ! , We are happy to comply with the chief's request that all residents be properly informed on the changes in the statutes. /A. >rdinances Drawn For Additional Revnne At the next meeting of the village board to be held Monday, Feb. ^l^the president and trustees \viir~aiscuss and vote upon two ordinances which the village attorney, Roland Hermann, was instructed to draft. The two ordinances concern adopting the V2 of one per cent sales tax which is now collected by the county and to impose a $15 food handling license for three places of business. A tie vote emerged on the voting of increasing dog licenses by one dollar. The president voted in favor of it which passed the measure. A recommendation to increase the price of vehicle stickers would increase the rotra fund by a sizable amount, but was defeated by the village o f f i c e r s p r e s e n t . T r u s t e e s Johnson and Lock were absent. This does not mean these increases will go into effect immediately. The measures will be discussed and put to a vote. The action described was taken at the meeting held Monday, Jah. 17 in the beachhouse. In order to decrease expenditures, the board will conduct all village business once a month instead of the two meetings now held, but in case of emergency, the president will call for special meetings. These will be publicized in advance. The possibility of raising the price of building permits will be investigated by the building and zoning committee. They will submit their recommendations in the near future. Two recalcitrant citizens were shown extreme courtesy by the village board in spite of their obstinancy on an issue long dead. The next meeting of the president and trustees will be held the third Monday in Feb. ruary. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Hospital Patients Released Wee Linda Branham--P.U, returned home from McHenry hospital last Friday after being confined for a couple days battling a bout of pneumonia. The infection was in both lungs. She is an excellent patient, and her mother was impressed with the maturity the lady gained while she was in the hospital. Completely independent in her thinking and actions. Happy to report she is doing just fine. Mrs. Sally Olsen came home from McHenry hospital last Monday after undergoing surgery on her right eye. She entered on Tuesday and went under the knife on Wednesday. Speedy recovery for her, too. Entering the Marine Corps Leslie R. Surgott, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie J. Surgott, 2017 N. Ringwood Road will report to San Diego, Calif., for 12 weeks of boot training on Feb. 2. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and requested duty in Viet Nam. This is one young man's answer to the draft card burners. Although Les lives outside the corporate limits of the village, we felt his valour and patriotism should receive recognition. No doubt that Les will be a credit to the Corps. We'll publish his address when it becomes available. ed for the cerebral palsy fund drive held .recently, according to Chairman Marie McKim, which tops last year's amount. She is grateful to all who gave and for the courtesy shown the women and young ladies who made the door to door calls. Your generosity is much ui>- preciated. March of Dimes Results Next Week Many volunteer women and girls were out over the weekend for Mrs. Mary Kantorski, chairman of the March of Dimes drive, but it ,was continued throughout the week, so we have no results as yet. They will be forthcoming next week. West Coast for Belated Wedding Trip Two week's of divine clear weather is what Cynthia and Nick Freund reported when they returned home from their belated wedding trip. The two departed our shores on Jan. 8 after solemnizing their previous vows in St." Mary's Catholic church. The couple drove a new car which was purchased here but delivered to the owner in Palm Springs, Calif. They remained in the winter playground for a couple of days, which included a moonlight swim in one of the lovely pools. They were convinced they should make the trip to Anaheim and tour Disneyland which holds as much appeal for adults as for the kiddies. It was as impressive a tour as they have ever made. They also viewed the splendors of Knott's Berry Farm and then it was on to Monterey where they spent one night. The trip on Route 1 along the coast will never be forgotten, and they have the pictures to prove it! The scenery along the coast is simply magnificept and breathtaking-^-a-nd^TFf&y encountered no snow in the mountains during their trip. Traveling via cable cars in San Franciso was a superb delight and sounded like down right fun!
