Rumors floated around that John Looze might be replaced permanently on the bowling team after Betty Clark filled in for him last week. After a few choice words directed at a certain columnist, John set forth to meet the challenge. Whoops! Somebody removed his bowling ball from his locker. It seemed like a joke at first, but gets less funny every day the ball is missing. Well, let's get to the point. Our hero strode to the rack, picked up a ball and rolled a 555 series. Looks like he is back on the team. Herman Kreutzer says Manager Lippy Leo Durocher called him and asked him to get in shape. Seems the Cubs need an experienced catcher. Anybody else for the lineup? Herman gets a bang out of Cassius Clay and his popping off about being classed 1A by the Army. Herman was some sort of champion when boxing was going on at the old Polly Prim across the river, but that didn't keep him out of the rmy. ^Another subject we got into was the two-lane bowling alley operated long years ago above the store now occupied by Ruck's Hardware. Somebody doubted there ever was a bowling alley in that location. Might as well try to convince Herman that the Sox are superior to the Cubs. Now comes word from Paris, France that American men must have their hair styled. No more haircuts. Barbers will be known as hair stylists. They are going to get a real workout trying to style our mop of hair instead of just plain cutting. We saw our Warrior basketball team put up one heck of a good scrap Friday night before bowing to Dundee in overtime. The game was fast and hard fought, but not the kind that brings out booing, especially with officials as the targets. McHenry had too many fouls so lost the game in spite of leading by three in the field goal totals. Moms and Dads of the players were introduced and given numbers. We remarked to Audrey Glosson, "How ya gonna tell the parent without a number?" We wanted like all get out to see our team win the last home game, but did enjoy watching such a close contest. Gene Brooke will tell you how we lost in his report of the game. On" Friday night of this week, the team travels to Barrington with a,, good chance of winding up the season with a victory. On March 1. McHenry Methodist plays St. Paul United Church in the early game and Ringwod Methodist plays Cary Methodist in the late game. In recent Boys' League games St. Paul's United edged St. Barnabas Lutheran 40 to 34 while McHenry Methodist won easilyover Cary Methodist 77 to 25. In Men's League play Crystal Lake Methodist tied for second place with Fox River Grove Methodist by beating them 54 to 47 and St. Thomas Catholic rolled over McHenry Baptist 52 to 22. Although the Warriors trailed at half time, they lead Dundee at the end of the first and third periods. With seconds to go. the Warriors trailed by 4 points. However, McHenry managed to steal the ball twice and scored both times knotting the score. Dundee took the ball out with thirty seconds left and waited until there were only six seconds left before attempting what they hoped would be the winning shot. The attempt was close but didn't go in and the game went into overtime. McHenry couldn't score in the extra period while Dundee netted three points. The win Vvas Dundee's fifth in conference play. McHenry finished in last place in conference play beating only North Chicago, the conference cha^pps. The Warriors scored well from the field - in fact McHenry hit 26 field goals while Dundee sank only 23. However, the Cardunals had a 17-8 free throw advantage. Tom Evans led the Warrior attack. Evans connected on seven fieldgoals and two charity tosses for 16 points. John Reinbold followed Evans with 12 points. Soda netted 10, Kilday and Camasta contributed 8, and Phil Schmike had 4 points. The Warriors committed too many fouls. Four Warriors fouled out and as a team, McHenry allowed Dundee at least 27 attempts at the charity line. McHenry didn't have a successful 'season, but all of the regulars, with the exception of Rich Soda, will be back next year. Perhaps Warrior fans will be treated to a winning season then. Another game has been scheduled for the Warriors this Saturday afternoon, at 2:00 p.m. McHenry will play Mundelein. Paul Morenz seems to have come into his own at Wisconsin since he has been used more in the games. His sharp outshooting in the Northwestern game, where he led the team in scoring, drew favorable comments. "Red" Winkel thinks it is about time for the big time sports pages to give us some baseball news. We agree. ENROLLS IN COLLEGE Nancy Kathleen Howe, 7318 W. HANDICAPPED T0BI DEDBY ADVISORY GROUP Special Education District Program Based On Study ^ A special seven-person advisory committee has been named by Richard L. Tazewell, county superintendent of schools, in compliance with legislation passed by the last General Assembly. The Special Education Advisory committee, as it is called in the legislation, has the responsibility of developing a plan to help handicapped children receive "a good education." "McHenry county education leaders took steps before the adoption of this law to help handicapped children with the establishment of the Special Education district," said Tazewell today. "This new committee will build on the research and study already conducted to establish the Special Education District program. Much remains to be done to help these special youngsters." Tazewell said he expects the new Special Education board of the Special Education district to work closely together. The Special Education Advisory committee must make a report to the state Superintendent of Public Instruction by July. 1, 1967. On this newly formed Special Education Advisory committee are Mrs. May Chesak, Huntley; Leon J. Lundahl, Crystal Lake; James Hecht, Woodstock; Robert Popenhagen, Alden-Hebron the Rev. Eugene Baumhofer, McHenry; Earl L. Morgan, Marengo; and. William E. „Camp. Harvard. Planning should consider many types of services, not limited to the concept of special classrooms, Tazewell said in discussing the committee's assignment. The law provides in some categories for educational services to children as young as three and as old as 21. Types of handicaps vary, but some categories may be described. Those the committee are asked to look for include speech, socially maladjusted, educable mentally handicapped, learning disorders, emotionally disturbed, physically handicapped - at home or in hospital; trainable | mentally handicapped, deaf, partially sighted, multiply handicapped, and blind. A 1962 survey by a state advisory council shows the number of children with exceptionally in McHenry county as follows: Physical, 29; speech, 499; hearing, 9; blind, 1; partially seing, 3; socially maladjusted, Irish Win Two More Games It seemed as though the Irish had lost their momentum after losing two out of four games last weekend. But this weekend was a different story as the Irish came roaring back to take two more. In their first game Sunday the fine shooting of Blenner Merkel, and Lafontaine was the prime factor of their twentyfirst victory against St. Raymond, 51-32. In their second game Sunday and of the Diocesan Tournament, they played St. Mary's of Dekalb who put up a good fight as the Irish held off a rally late in the fourth quarter, but winning 43-34. Now the invincible Irish play two tournament games Sunday, the first for a place and the second for a trophy. Irish scorers were: Blenner. high scorer with 30; followed by Merkel, 17; Lafontaine, 16; Larkin, 14; Ringelstetter, 13; Elliot, 2 and Stilling, 2. McHENRY 1204 Gr.
