MOVIE HEVISW (Coming to McHenry) "TEN LITTLE INDIANS" In Austria, ten people of different backgrounds find themselves as weekend guests in a mysterious castle in the height of winter. It is reachable only by a private cable car. These are elderly Judge Wilfrid Hyde- White, -young Hugh. O'Brien, Private Detective Stanley Holloway, retired Army General Leo Genn, Actress Daliah Lavi, young American Pop Singer Fabian, alcoholic Doctor Dennis Price, Secretary Shirley Eaton, Housekeeper Marianne Hoppe, and her husband, caretaker Mario Adorf. It turns out they have not met their host, and employees, Hoppe, Adorf and Eaton, were hired through an agency. After the first dinner, they hear a tape recording welcoming them and accusing each of some sort of murder for which they will pay over the weekend. Fabian dies of poison, like the first Indian in the song. Hoppe tries to flee by cable car, but it has been tampered with, and she falls to her death. They separate to search the premises and Genn is killed. They reach the conclusion that their mysterious host-killer must be one of themselves. Adorf tries to scale the mountain, but his rope is cut. Lavi is next. One by one they go until apparently only Eaton and O'Brian are left. Innovations In Cooking A cupcake baked in 30 seconds, or eight cupcakes within three minutes, may soon be a reality. Some women are already enjoying this convenience with electronic ovens. Formerly5* prohibitively expensive, these ovens are now being manufactured to suit more family budgets. The chief attribute of electronic ovens is their speed. Cooking time is about one-half to one-tenth that required in a regular oven. One frozen beef patty cooks in one and one-half minutes. But over-cooking also happens quickly. Overcooked foods dry out or become mushy bujt never burrj. or smoke. Students of University of Illinois foods professor Pearl Janssen have learned that timing varies with the amount to be cooked. An oven timer regulates cooking periods, but students must experiment to determine exact timing. In an electronic oven, frozen foods, such as strawberries, can be defrosted in threefourths to one minute. Stirring the food as soon as the ice in"the outer layer melts, speeds the process and prevents the thawed surface from becoming overcooked. Electronic ovetis and the food containers used in them are easily cleaned because food won't burn. Meat spatterings wipe away with a damp cloth. Spattering can be prevented with a covering of glass or cellophane, which also keeps the surface of the food moist. Surfaces of meats and baked goods must be browned in a built-in browning unit. Ninety percent of the topof- stove jobs can be done faster in an electronic oven. Although some foods do not cook well in it, many others do. By 1970 one million cars will be stolen in this country annually. To thwart thieves, the Institute for Safer Living advises that you never leave your car with the motor running - even for a few moments. Teen-agers looking for a joy ride will find this quite a temptation. SPRING OtrAftTER ACTIVITIES STAHf MARCH26 AT YMCA The Lake Region YMCA spring quarter activities will begin on Saturday, March 26.
