They add to the fun, leisure and comfort of a well-balanced family life. The future holds even greater promise for the comfort and leisure of the American family. Sucre will soon be the all gas feorne in which a gas powered fuel £©31 will furnish all home power t>2®ds ... for light, television and everything. Today, exciting Inventions are being perfected in the T p e r ' r e s Appliances laboratories to further extend comfort and leisure living. M Gas Has Bar-B-Q Recipes The Home Service Department of Northern Illinois Gas Company has published one of its seasonal recipe booklets, "Iiet's Have A Bar-B-Q." The 13-page booklet includes outdoor cooking tips and barbecue recipes which have been tested in the kitchens of the NIGas home economists. Homemakers in the area can obtain this booklet or other information on all phases of homemaking from the local Nl-Gas home economist. Clarice Forbes, Nf-Gas home service director, coordinates the work of the company's home service staff of IS professionally trained home economists. The refreshing freedom from convention is nowhere more apparent than in the homes and versatile living of today's American housewife and her family. She and her family are swooping down ski slopes, speeding down expressways on the backs of Hondas or just relaxing somewhere in the warm rays of a bright sun. But whatever the activity or travel, the family still returns to the comforts and conveniences of heir home -- hungry, dirty and tired. And gas -- the American family's ideal household servant is there to help in so many ways. Modern, sophiticated ranges practically do all the cooking. With the turn of a dial, eggs, bacon, coffee, pancakes or whatever is on the menu is cooked just right. Gas burners think for themselves and have controls so automatic that foods cook to perfection and are then kept gently warm until the chef is ready to serve her ^family. Other cooking conveniences found on today's ranges include adjustable ceramic broilers, single or triple rotisseries with automatic controls to eliminate guess*----ety a work of cooking and insure'a deliriously perfect roast every time. In some families, father prefers and actually enjoys cooking a meal for his family in an easygoing. outdoor manner. For his convenience, there's the gas barbecue grill which replaces charcoal cooking with the superior broiling methods used by top chefs in outstanding restaurants. The grill operates as easily as the gas range. A simple burner knob maintains proper temperatures and even heat throughout the broiling process. Permanent ceramic briquetts are heated in the grill by a gas flame to provide, even, controlled radiant heat. Food is cooked rapidly with all the natural juices sealed in and with the characteristic "charcoal" flavor savored by outdoor cooks. And it only takes five to eight minutes to preheat the ceramic briquetts to a perfect bed of hot coals. What the male chef appreciates most about the grill is that it cleans itself completely after each use. Dinner out of the way, there's always the unpleasant chore of cleaning up the dirty dishes, disposing of the garbage and laundering the soiled table linens along with the wet swim suits and sandy towels. But again, gas comes to the rescue. There was a time when there never was enough hot water in the house. But that no longer has to be the case. The new hot water heaters provide all the necessary hot water at one time for laundering, bathing or washing the dishes. While the dishes are being done automatically in the gas dishwashsiniple, -compact uoit that's found in the kitchen or utility room burns the garbage and trash without any unpleasant odor or unsightly smoke. The gas incinerator consumes everything burnable from meat and turkey bones, egg shells to old shoes. The push of a button ignites a gas burner which consumes the trash while another burner consumes the smoke. With the modern dryers, the laundry always comes out fluffydry, with a clean, fresh smell, ready to be folded or ironed. Gas dryers are quick, efficient, and like all modern gas appliances, give long years of wear because there are fewer working parts to wear out. And best of all, they can be operated for penny a day. In addition to drying clothes, the dryer is good for fluffing pillows, cooling cakes, defrosting meats, shaking rugs or drying out fresh bread for making stuffing. A no-tumble setting on the dryer stops the dryer drum and jets warm air around and through the article on a special rack with* out tumbling. Gas Heats Outdoor Pools "Come on in, the water's fine" was a cry once heard mostly at the old swimming hole--and mostly on hot July afternoons. But now, thanks to modern gas pool heaters, it is shouted in thousands of backyards from morning to night, and not only in mid-summer, but in spring and fall as well. In northern Illinois, the use of automatic, gas pool. ..heaters is stretching the swim season from three to six months; and owners of heated pools report their families are now able to swim in early morning, during the day, after sunset--anytime. Most swimmers agree that just a few degrees in temperature means the difference between the shivers and comfort. Pool heaters eliminate the shivers by keeping the water at a constant, comfortable temperature at all times. A temperature of 78 degrees is usually considered desirable. lb-, " i j ! P'i Silllfij With a natural gas grill, any yard or patio becomes an outdoor living room where tainily tcoironis are often a daily occurrence. Since there is no charcoal 4© bother with, meals are cooked in a laurry with complete controllability -- and for mere pennies. The mew gas grills, with their long-lasting c©rasmic krisgwettes, are especially popular with Dads who are now tunning out everything from sizzling bet dogs to succuleat roasts.
