Bittersweet avenue, McHenry, was married last Saturday, April 16, to Mr. Einar Clauson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Einar Clauson of 811 Oakwood avenue, Lake Forest. The beautiful nuptial rite was solemnized in St. Mary's Catholic church, McHenry, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Matthew Rudden officiating. The church was decorated for the occasion with bouquets LeRoy Hiller Claims Bride St. Peter's Catholic church in Volo was the setting for a beautiful wedding on Saturday, April 16, when Miss Bernadette Wegener became the bride of Mr. LeRoy Hiller. Rev. Fr. Edmund Slingerland officiated at the 11 o'clock ceremony, for which Mrs. Raymond Kennebeck presided at the organ. Miss Wegener is the daughter of Mrs. Agnes Wegener of Ingleside and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hiller of 3816 N. Hillcrest, Johnsburg. Miss Wegener was charming as she walked down the aisle wearing a floor length gown of silk peau de soi with embroidered lace. The bodice was fashioned with an oval neckline and crystal and seed pearls, the sleeves bell shaped. An empire styled skirt had a detachable tubular train appliqued in lace. A bouffant veil fell from a petal crown, accented with seed pearls. Her flowers were white phalaenopsis in cascade effect. Acting as maid of honor was Miss Patricia Balsinger of Northbrook, a classmate in nurse's training, and bridesmaids were Miss Lynn Roberts of Chicago and Mrs. Grace Bentz of Johnsburg, sister of the groom. Miss Mary Clair Biere of Ingleside, niece of the bride, was junior bridesmaid. All were attired similarly in floor length gowns of ice pink georgette over taffeta, styled with oval neckline and cap sleeves. The skirts were empire, banded in pink satin and green leaves. Their headpieces consisted of matching petals highlighted with green leaves and pink blusher veils. Paul Hiller served his brothee ras best man and groomsmen were Ray Jensen and Ronald Wegener, brother of the bride. Mike Knox of Crystal Lake served his uncle as junior groomsman. Mrs. Wegener selected a sheath dress in light brown lace over beige taffeta, with bone accessories. Mrs. Hiller wore a blue lace sheath ensemble with blue and white accessories. Both had corsages of white carnations and red tearoses. Following the ceremony, at 1 p.m., dinner was served to thirty-three guests at the Johnsburg Community club hall, where 425 friends and relatives gathered after 5 o'clock in the afternoon. After a trip to Acapulco and Mexico City, the couple will make their home in McHenry. The bride is a 1962 graduate of Marian Central high school, Woodstock, and of St. Therese School of Nursing, WaukeganT in 1965. She is a registered nurse at that hospital. The bridegroom graduated from McHenry high school in 1957 and attended Rockford School of Business. He is office manager for H.E. Buch and Sons, JVfcHenry. of carnations, gladioli, and mums, all in white. Pretty, blonde Miss Adams chose a floor length gown of white taffeta, outlined in desigfris of sequins and pearls, with a flowing train. It featured a heart-shaped neckline and long sleeves. A crown-type tiara of sequins and pearls held in place a shoulder length veil. Her crescent-shaped bouquet, tied with white satin ribbons, was of white minature mums. Mrs. Karen Lishamer of River road, McHenry, acted as matron of honor, wearing a buttercup yellow, A-line, empire styled sleeveless dress. It was of silk shantung, floor length. She carried a bouquet of white daisies. Kenneth Bundy of Round Lake served the groom as best man. Mrs. Adams wore a celery green suit of summer knit with matching accessories. Mrs. Clauson chose a yellow and green tweed linen skirt and jacket with which she wore a yellow arid olive green crepe blouse. Both had corsages of yellow roses. Thirty guests enjoyed a wedding dinner at Mers restaurant immediately following the ceremony. After a weekend trip to Chicago, the newlyweds will make their home in Lake Forest. The bride is a graduate of McHenry high school and is a general office clerk in the United Airlines executive offices, Elk Grove village. The groom graduated from Lake Forest high school and is attending Greer Technical school in Chicago. McHenry Man To Wed Lake Bluff Girl Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Irving Lytle of Lake Bluff, formerly of Libertyville, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Laura Lee, to Robert K. Beckenbaugh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beckenbaugh of .">904 \V. Oak, McHenry. Miss Lytle and Mr. Beckenbaugh are students at Southern Illinois university. No date for the wedding has been announced. DOROTHY JONES, JOSEPH POPELKA MARRIED APRIL 16 ATTEND CHURCH SUNDAY A pretty wedding was solemnized last Saturday, April 16, in the home, of the bride's brother, Kenneth Jones, in Sunnyside, when Miss Dorothy Ruth Jones of 4118 Sunset lane, McHenry, became the bride of Mr. Joseph Anthony Popelka, son of Mrs. Helen Popelka of Spring Grove. The . marriage took place at 4 o'clock, with Judge John Kauffman officiating. The pretty bride wore a white knit suit, white accessories, white veiled hat and an orchid corsage. jj Attending her Was her sisterin- law, Mrs. Mary Jones, who was attired in a green silk dress, green hat, white gloves and green cymbidium corsage. Kenneth Jones served as best man for his brother-in-law. Mrs. Popelka chose for her son's wedding a pink lace dress, beige accessories and a green cymbidium corsage. Following the cererhony, at 6 o'clock, seventy-five members of the families and close friends gathered at the Phillip Leonhardt residence/ Spring Grove for a reception. The bridal couple left later on a week end trip, postponing a visit to New York to a future time. The newlyweds will make their home in Richmond. The bride received her education in Medina, Tenn., and the groom in Richmond high school. Both are employees of the International Register Co. L__ Plan GOP Spring Luncheon LYNNE BUCKIE WED APRIL 11 IN CALIFORNIA Mr. and Mrs. Jack Buckie of Huntington Beach, Calif., formerly of McHenry, announce the marriage of their daughter, Lynne Patricia, to Robert John Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Baker of Philadelphia, Pa. The couple was married on April 11 in Huntington Beach at an 11 o'clock Nuptial Mass. The matron of honor was Gretchen Sayler Miller of Redondo Beach, Calif., formerly of McHenry. Attending the groom was Patrick Buckie, brother of the bride, who left the following day to begin flight training with the U.S.N.- A.R. in Pensacola, Fla. Mrs. Baker is a 1960 graduate , of McHenry high school and earned a B.A. degree at Clarke College, Dubuque, la., in 1964. She did graduate work in Spanish at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and is currently teaching sixth and seventh grade Spanish for the Palos Verdes school district. The groom graduated in 1961 with a B.S. in accounting from LaSalle college in Philadelphia. He is employed as an internal auditor for the Internal. Revenue Service in Los Angeles. WINS DECORATING CONTEST Jack Meyer, son of Mrs. Naomi Meyer of McHenry, won first place in a contest conducted at the University of Illinois to select the best decorating design idea for the April Town and Gown b(all. Friends may remember that Jack was co-winner of designs^ submitted for the McHenry flag several years ao while a student in McHenry high school. He is now a sophomore at the university. ON DEAN'S LIST Academic deans at Southern Illinois university have named 1,427 Carbondale campus undergraduate students to deans' lists for academic excellence during the winter quarter. The speaker received his master's degree in regional planning at Cornell university and has had vast experience with planning commissions in Ohio, New Jersey and Illinois. He is a Governor's appointee to the Water Resources Management commission. Mrs. Pearl Miyashiro, Woodstock, is president of the organization. Heading the luncheon committee is Mrs. Jean TJiurow, assisted by Mrs. Mimi Schuette and Mrs. Betty Emerson. This will be an open meeting and women in the community are invitod to attend. Guest speakers will be Congressman Robert McClory from this 12th congressional district, and Congresswoman Catherine May, the first woman representative from the state of Washington. Mrs. May is. a member of the five-man National Commission on Food Marketing created by Congress in 1964. Mrs. Adeline Geo-Karis Lambros, president of the Club, will introduce the speakers. The invocation will be given by Rev. George Giannaras of St. Demetrio Greek Orthodox church, Waukegan, and Rev. Ford Gibson of Trinity A.M.E. church, Waukegan, will give the benediction. DAN TURNER WINS PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIP DAN TURNER Ann Varese and Company, not - for - profit theatre group, this week announces the selection of Danny Turner, McHenry High School senior, as the recipient of their first scholarship award for the Performing Arts. Danny will be attending Goodman Theatre in the Art Institute in Chicago, internationally recognized as one of the truly outstanding dramatic schools. Danny has been an active member of A V& CO for the past three years, having appeared in all productions since 1964. He 'played the lead in "Tom Sawyer", which was presented for the Country Art Fair. He starred as Bud in last spring's production of "Best Foot Forward". Danny has recently been seen in the title role of Charley in the Twilight Ridge revival of "Charley's Aunt", and this past March played his first tragic role Bryan in "Mistress of William Woods", an original play by Ed Sauer. He received rave critical comments for this performance. AV & CO encourages all performers from 16 years up to audition for the Talent Search. This a change froni the Junior high which is the usual meeting place. Miss Helen Curran, assistant for School Districts 15 arid--15S, superintendent of instruction will be the speaker of the evening. Her topic will be "Curriculum Changes in the McHenry Area." Miss Curran has a B.S. degree from the IUTgps Institute of Technology; M.E. in Guidance and Counseling from the University of IUihois; and has taken jwst graduate work at International Institute of. Education, Geneva, Switzerland, University of .Maryland, University of London and " J?prthern Illinois university. .^Currently Miss Curran is a candidate for Advanced Certificate in Educational Administration at the University of Illinois.
