Guess we were concentrating on that 103 in another game. "Brickhouse" was real disappointed in that the Warriors did not Gross the goal line to give him a chance for the old Hey! Hey! Coach Hargis and his able helpers sent a real strong defensive unit onto the field, but the offense could not get there when the goal line was in sight. We have some boy who can carry the mail, but the zip code must have been .nixed up. By: Earl WaJtl Honestly we were saying n i c e t h i n g s a b o u t J o h n Leighty's high school band to Mr. Martin in the press coop before that surprise number played for us last Friday night at the football game. Harrington comes to town Friday night with an unbeaten record and advance notice of being big and strong. Maybe this would be the one for our Warriors to win. Wow! We might even celebrate. '•When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" was sweet music to our ears. We sincerely appreciate the gesture and Irish eyes are still smiling. Hear tell the football lettermen of MCHS got together for a shindig before the game. That sort of activity is real good for the school spirit. Chicago Warhawks Grind Out 12-0 Victory Of@r Warrior Sattlers By Bert Hagem&m If you are the type of fan who likes rock-em sock-em, grind it out power football, then Friday night should have been your kind of game. This clash pitted two similar offenses against each other, featuring £four yards and a cloud of dust" football. The difference in the battle lay in the fact that North Chicago had the ability to caplalize on s c o r i n g o p p o r u n i t i e s , whereas the Warriors knocked twice on the touchdown door but were denied entrance. The first half of the game featured North Chicago ball control, as the orange and black had few opportunities to mount any kind of offensive threat. The first Warhawk touchdown came on a result of a fumbled punt deep in Warrior territory. The Warhawks punched it over from the 2 on a run by Sanford. McHenry took the second kick-off and moved down the field on their most sustained drive of the evening. However. after controlling the ball for oVer eight minutes, the Warrior drive stalled inside the Warhawk ten when a Bob Funk pass was batted into the air and intercepted. North Chicago took over and immediately marched 87 yards to their second touchdown. Carswell counted the louchdown on a run of 2 yards late in the third period. Once again the conversion attempt was unsuccessful. The Warriors tried valiantly for a comeback, but the Warhawk defense proved too tough to crack. Certainly the McHenry footballers played bruising, rough game. The < t fort was there, the paydirt touch wasn't. Rich Lossman led Warrior ball carriers with 39 yards gained in 9 attempts, while John Todd gained ?,1 yards in 19 tries. Tom Daugherty, the huge Warrior tackle, caught 6pass- ' s. good for 44 yards, on a rackle eligible piay wnich worked repeatedly. EQUESTRIENNES WIN TROPHIES IN TWO HORSE SHOWS Last Sunday in the. Somebody mailed us some literature this week in which they try to make us see the light and save our soul. We may get at it any day now. In looking over college football rosters we find Dave Klapperi'ch listed at halfback on the Culver-Stockton team. Dave is a senior this year and has been a good athlete all •he way. Coach Hargis has a couple of tackles this year who are d r a w i n g a t t e n t i o n . Tom Dougherty is the big who was so successful in that tackle eligible pass playtest week. Bob Mauch is a brick wall on the other side of the line and has one more year in high school. A news release from the John F. This is sponsored by old time baseball men, but they want you all to join them. Funny how we take our neighbors for granted and how much we miss them when they are away.
