Hiuday Hills NIM INEZ YOTOT© 385-4672 Charter For Cub Scouts Mrs. Gerry Breede, Junior Vice President of V.F.W. auxiliary for the Fox Valley Post 4600 receives charter for Cub Scout Troop 458 from the neighborhood commissioner George Ames. The following news for Cub Scout pack 458 is reported by Henry Haufe. The annual Blue and Gold Dinner of Cub Scout Pack No. 458 was held on the evening of Feb. 18 at the VFW Fox Valley Post 4600 in McHenry. This was, without a doubt, one of the best affairs of the year. Our appreciation for a fine job of organization and preparation to Mrs. H. Breede, chairman of the occasion and to her assistants, Mrs. Mary Mullins, Mrs. Nancy Christy, and Mrs. Virginia Lundelius. The cuisine, as usual, was superb, consisting of ham, barbeque, assorted breads, salads, desserts and beverages. Many of the people were seen going back for seconds and thirds, yours truly included. The meeting was called to order by Jack White, Cubmaster, with the pledge of allegiance to our flag. Following the pledge, the honored guests for the evening were introduced. They were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Catanzaro, Scoutmaster of the local Boy Scout unit, Mr. and Mrs. George Ames, Neighborhood Commissioner for the Kishwaukee Scout District, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Young, representing the McHenry Plaindealer as the area columnist, and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hansen. Mr. Hansen is the Senior Vice-Commander of the VFW to the Den mothers and mem-? bers of the committee. All the boys participated in a skit called 'Recipe for a Cub Scout'. It showed all the boys dropping the ingredients into a make believe pot and Boy Scouts Schmidt and Connell stirring it with a large spoon. Upon completion of the ingredients and mixing, out popped a real live Cub Scout to the delight of all present. We were impressed with the candle light ceremony as conducted by former Cubmaster, Jack Connell, and his two assistants, Scouts Connell and Schmidt. After the ceremony, Cubmaster Jack Whit® and Harold Breede handed out the following awards: John Eoettcher, Wolf Badge and Gold Arrow, Roy Breede, Denners Badge, Anthony Christy, Recruiters Badge, Ricky Connell, Wolf Badge and Gold Arrow, Wally Foreman, Bobcat Pin, Timmy Hughes, Wolf Badge, and Gold Arrow, Tommy Hughes, Wolf Badge and Gold Arrow, James Mullins, Recruiters Badge, Kurt Teuber, Wolf Badge and Gold Arrow, Alan White, Denners Badge and 1 and 2 year pins and Boy Scout Gary Connell received his Den Chief Award. The date for the Piqewood Derby was announced for March 25 at the VFW hall. The kits were distributed with approthere. I am sure this has been a highlight of the Cub Scouting sated many times, but renumbering our problems for a suitable meeting place in the past, I cannot stress too deeply CHIT appreciation for our sponsorship by this fine organization. After the introductions, Mr. White impressed upon all present how fortunate we are to be Americans. An important part of the Cub scout movement is . making all these young men aware of this seemingly disappearing trait. A regular feature of every pack meeting is the roll call and uniform inspection. This is done by Leo Vance, the assistant cubmaster and leader of ih|l| Webelos Den, and Harold Breede, the institutional representative of Pack 458. , After dinner, the Charter for Pack No. 458 was presented to Mrs. Harold Breede, representing the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Fox Valley Post 4600, who are sponsors of our group. The presentation was made by George Ames, Neighborhood Commissioner for the Kishwaukee District. For example: 1946 sljows 10 people dying for every hundred million miles of travel compared to 5.7 persons for the year 1964. If the same rate would have continued, the toll would have reached 82,000 instead of 47,700 for 1964. I suppose it proves that better roads and driver education is helping through the years. Of course, this bit of figuring isn't going to console you if you're one of the statistics. So, take it easy and remember, Smitty's Sinclair Service ai 3602 W. Elm street does a good job on brakes, tires and many other safety services. See us todqy. Adv. LICENSE PLATE SERVICE Driver's & Chauffeur's Bonded season and we urge all dads and boys to do their best. We have extra sets for any boys who would like to join our unit and join in on the fun of Pinewood night and cubbing in general. Juse call 385-5337,385-7352or 385-3131.
