This year's fair will be bigger and better than ever before, so don't miss it. Please note: even though the fair will not be accepting clothihg, Marge Barth says if there is anyone who has usable items and wishes to get rid of them ghe will gladly accept them for distribution to a mentally relarded school she is acquainted with. Contact her only in regards to the clothing. HOSPITAL PATIENT Mrs. C. Fischer was stricken about two weeks ago and was taken by the rescue squad ambulance to the McHenry hospital. She was confined to the intensive care ward for a few days but has been making a remarkable recovery every since. Mrs. Fischer resides between the lomes of her two sons, Rudy and 111, both of Mehring avenue. Ve sincerely hope she will be lome by the time this comes to irint and it will be "up hill' ill the way for her from now on. SURPRISE! SURPRISE! Somewhere between eighty ind ninety relatives and friends irrived at the Cleatus LaFonaine home on Johnsburg road m a recent Sunday afternoon to surprise Jim LaFontaine, who left for service on Tuesday of this week. The guests came Equipped with all the makings of a successful parly. Jim was "bowled" over with the nice gifts he received and could not express his thanks enough. The party-goers came from this immediate area, as well as Elkhorn, Marengo and Woodstock. Jim was feted at another party this past Friday night in the home of his cousin, the Ken Townsends. At this time, his young friends were in attendance. We all join in wishing good luck and say we are proud of all the young men who assist Uncle Sam in the defense of our country. Grean 385-4500 in which agrariddaughter played a major role. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bugner and son of Alvada, Ohio, are spending several days in the Arnie Michels home this week. Mrs. Michels received word last week of the death of her uncle and godfather, FredHoffi bauer, Ohio. The Michels family planned to make the trip there for the funeral but a bad snow storm which closed many of the roads fdrced them to remain here. LONGTIME RESIDENT SUCCUMBS Our sincerest synqjathies are extended to the surviving members of the Paul Schulz family. Mr. Schulz passed away last week after an illness of several weeks. Services were conducted Saturday morning. BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION Richard May was the victim of a surprise party on Monday, March 11. About twenty of his close friends and relatives arrived at his home to help him celebrate his thirty-ninth natal day. May he continue to have such happy, yearly events. BASKETBALL WINNIE Congratulations are in order for manv of our local men and junior members of St. John's court, No. 96. Several of the teams from this area participated in the statetournament held at St. Gregory's in Chicago. First place trophies were awarded to the snjtall team consisting of the sixth graders and younger, and the heavies. A second place lyas captured by the Forester senior team. We .are very proud of all the Forester members who participated in this tournament.* Also it's hats off to all the spectators from here and in the McHenry area who took the time to drive into the city to witness many of these games and give moral support to the players. SUMMER WEDDINGS PLANNED Among our young people contemplating marriage this summer are Bob Schmitt and Jim Smith. The engagement of Penny Conley to Bob was announced by her parents recently. He is the son of Frank and Laura Schmitt. Jim recently flipped a beautiful ring on the finger of Judy Walsh of McHenry. Both young couples have plans for a summer wedding. We wish them all the happiness possible. And so another week has ended. Please take care so we can meet right here again next week. Remember noon each Monday is deadline time for this column. Shop In McHenry EVA FREUND PHONE 675-2185 4-H GROUP PLANS FOR ACHIEVEMENT NIGHT MARCH 26 The local 4-Corners 4-H groiq? is planning to hold an achievement night cm Tuesday, March 26, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Spring Grove school. Awards will be presented for achievements during the past year. The program will consist of demonstrations and comedy skits. The girls will also have a bake sale that night. Refreshments will be served by their sponsoring group The Lotus Country Women's club. Everyone is welcome to attend. i1' SOCIETY MEETS Hie Christian Mothers of St. Peter's parish will meet on Thursday night, March 21. An excellent speaker has been obtained for the program which will follow the meeting. A talk on * Vocations. . .Today" will be given by the Rev. Mr. Barry Deal, a teacher at Marian Central high school. He will be ordained in June and go to the Zambia diocese in Africa. Everyone is encouraged to attend this meeting and bring a friends. A board meeting at 7:30 p.m. will precede this meeting. Reports from chairmen will be required to compile a report for the deanery meeting which will be held in St. Peter's on April 18. ATTEND SHOWER Quite a few from here attended the bridal shower held for Linda Lewis last Sunday held at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Paul Bereiter in Fox Lake. The honored guest was the happy recipient of many lovely and useful gifts. A delicious buffet supper was served. Miss Lewis will become the bride of John Rowe of New York in April. RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL Mrs. Celia Mason has returned home from McHenry hospital where she has been a patient for the past three weeks. Susie Sutton underwent a tonsillectomy but is home and feeling fine. USHERS MEET Don Wagner was host to the ushers of St. Peter's at his home on Wednesday night. Cards and lunch followed the meeting. SERVICEMAN RETURNS TO CAMP Sfc>/4 Charles Petska will return to Fort Campbell, Ky., on March 21. He is enjoying a furlough at his home here and also accompanied by his parents and family.on a trip to northern Wisconsin to visit his grandparents. He is now visiting a buddy, Ernest Viano, at Coal City. Petska spent his first year's service in Sattahip, Thailand. TRANSFER Rev. John Barrett from Mt. Hope church and Spring Grove Methodist church is being transferred to a parish near Chicago. Lay leaders will take over the duties until a minister can be obtained. ATTEND MEETING Mrs. Ed Buesseler, Mrs. Leo Karls, Mrs. Russell Rudolph and Mrs. William Shotliff attended a meeting Monday, March 11, of the Woodstock Women's club. An interesting program on Madonna statues and flower arrangements around them was given by Mrs. Hazel Pitit of Iowa, who has a collection of these statues from many countries. VISITS Mrs. John Sanborn spent a few days in Chicago last week with her daughter and family the Clifford Schultzes. Mrs. Sanborn's grandson, Curtis Schultz, is now stationed in Vietnam.
