DISTINCTIVE IQ CLUB MAS START WITHIN COUNTY If you've seen the light and quit smoking, you're a member of a distinctive club! And, there's a pin especially for you. Hie beautifully designed pin says simply, "IQ". When people ask what it means, you tell them succinctly, "Pve quit smoking". You'll probably add, "and Pm really glad." This new pin is available from Arnold N. May, chairman of the McHenry county Cancer Crusade, at 9522 Hideaway lane, Richmond. May's interest in recruiting members for the IQ club is based on concern about illness and death from cancer because of smoking. Research shows that persons who stop smoking recover remarkably well from the damage caused by inhaling tars, nicotines and poisons. The other fact that concerns May is that if lung cancer developes, it is "too late" to reverse the health trend. "Five-year survival for all lung cancer patients is only one • case out of 20," said May. "When a person stops smoking, the cells haive an ability to repair themselves unless cancer or emphysema develop." Giant death toll from lung cancer persists despite the fact that most lung cancers are readily preventably - simply stop smoking is the way. Because it is abnormally difficult to diagnose cancer of the lung in time, this form of the disease has a low recovery rate May continued. "Only 5percent of all cases are saved today." Get you IQ pin by quitting, concluded May.
