McHenry Saturday's double header against North Chicago^ By Bert Hagemann Saturday the Warriors split a doubleheader with the Warhawks losing the first game in overtime, 6-5 and winning the second 13-9. In the first game the slugging Warhawks unloaded for five runs against Tom Janik in the first four innings,, only to see the Warriors peck away at their lead and finally tie the game with a three run seventh. The orange and blacky down 5-2, started the last frame of regulation with singles by Freund and Camasta. Doug Belohavy jumped on the first pitch thrown by Thompson and unloaded a home run over the track in right center to tie the game. Two more Warriors died at second and third in this inning and the Warhawks pushed across a single run against Steve Salter on a triple and a single. The Warriors stormed back in the eighth with two McHenry split the twin bill, losing the first game 6-5 and more baserunners, but a liner icing is now 10-3 for the season. ^ jgft was gathered in and Mc- PLAINDEALER PHOTO Henry went down to its second Earl Walsh SO I HEAR conference defeat of the season. The second game was decided early as McHenry scored six runs in the second and seven in the third to jump out to a 13-5 lead. Although Steve Stahlman was having control problems, he managed to hang on until the seventh when the Warhawks pushed across three runs tocome within striking distance. Don Reinboldt came in and put out the fire, however, and McHenry found themselves in second place as the day ended. Although the Warriors garnered only seven hits in the second game they were aided by nine walks and one error. The big run producers of the day were Doug Belohavy, Jerry Freund and Mike Janik. The pitchers' earned run averages took a beating, but a split still leaves us within striking distance of 1st place. This Saturday the War - riors will make up a raine\j out double header with Z ion-Benton. The Zee-Bees feature terrific pitching this year, so try and make it for our last home twin-bill of the season. Thursday the oringe and black will entertain Mundelein in a nonconference tilt. N. Athlei Mustangs Of Wonder nn 9-0 Over Harmony Once again, for the second •vweek in a row, the Wonder ' Lake Mustangs soccer team returned from Rockford the happy jVvinners. Last week they defeated the Rockford Lions 14-1 and this past Sunday they won oyer the Rockford Harmony Club ^•B" team 9-0. This time the 'weather was perfect, proving that the Mustangs have a winning team regardless of the weather. Last week they played >in pouring rain. '! Sunday's game was arfine •display of coordinated teamiwork. While goals are what [makes the score and deter- {mines the winner - soccer is a 'teamwork sport. Every man on -the team contributes his part to each goal. When the Mustangs have their full team on the field they are getting to be hard to beat. Two injuries dampened /the spirits of the team a bit. In reaching for the ball, Rockford's goalie tore his hand on a ! nail sticking out from one of the -goalposts and had to be taken to j the hospital. None can deny that fairness should exist in schools and in all walks of life, however, we hate mob rule. We respect law and order. Sport* Editor J E, Haven't seen the bossmanf" Away Xs* It does give us a chuckle when we see protestors lie down on the street and then get carried away. What gives us the chuckle is thinking what usually happens to a spunky kid who lies down on the floor and kicks. That kid usually gets whacked over the part of the anatomy provided for spanking. He can stand, but might have trouble sitting down again for a while. It isn't, good for our blood pressure to think of some of the stories and pictures in recent issues of metropolitan newspapers and TV screens. ;i> First - let's be fair to all. Next, if fairness doesn't work, let's hope those in charge of affairs have the plain guts not to permit disregard for law and order. Pictures of army tanks, weighing several tons, rolling along with soldiers sitting on top like sitting ducks always puzzles us. Shouldn't some of those tons of metal be protecting the men? Probably a dumb question. But, still a question in our mind. Larry Lund, since his visit to Comiskey Park Friday night. That was the night Tommy Mc- Craw had three errors in one inning to give the Yankees a 3-2 victory. Those Sox must' be snake bit. McCraw is known as one of the classiest first basemen in the league. After Gary Peters' grand slam home run on Sunday, we renominate him for the first base job when he isn't pitching. The records show that was his original position. Stopped to see the architectural winning Chain-O'Lakes Evangelical Covenant church on Wilmot road north of Johnsburg Sunday afternoon. Formerly a barn on the Pete Freund farm, ^this church is really something to see. When they were trying to get to-gether history _ on this building, our better half referred them to our neighbor, Jmma Freund, who as a young girl, rode on the wagon with her father as he hauled timber from the woods to build the barn. She has shown an admirable trait in helping others. We have noted that many students, who have enjoyed her teaching and' guidance, visit her when they return to the old home town after graduation. That in itself must be rewarding. Replacing Adele at MCHS will not be easy. She leaves an imprint oh the cultural development of ou^ youth that rates lasting recognition in the betterment section of the history of our community. If her song has ended, the memory lingers on. SLATS ON CEILING HELP TINY ROOM Small rooms become cubicles unless rescued by clever decorating. One nea^ trick is to put strong pattern on the ceiling where it can add a lot of oomph without making the room appear cluttered. Douglas fir or pine %k2s nailed across the ceiling with a twoinch spacing between make a dramatic effect in a small room, especially when the wood strips are finished clear* and the ceiling behind is painted a mid-tone or dark shade.
