A history major who plans to pursue a teaching career, Miss Candella said, "As a high school teacher, I would like to transfer this knowledge to my students and perhaps make them more aware of other countries." According to Everetts, Miss Candella's scholarship is one pf ten awarded for summer' study this year by the FESB. Selection of candidates was done on the basis of general academic standing, merit of the proposed study project, financial need and ability to adapt to a foreign environment. In addition, candidates were required to submit three letters of recommendation and be interviewed by the FESB, Everetts said. EXPECT MANY TO PAY HONOR TO WAR DEAD (Continued from page 1) immediately after which the parade will form. Parade Marshal Bernie Matchen of the American Legion will be aidsd by Assistant Parade Marshal Walter Kuck of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The first tribute will be at the Civil War Memorial in the park, where a wreath will be placed. The parade will then move to the city beach, where a wreath will be cast upon the Fox river in honor of the men of the Navy. From there, the parade moves to St. Patrick's, St. Mary's, and Woodland cemeteries, where salute volleys will be fired and taps sounded. The official McHenry parade will then march to the McHenry Savings and Loan grounds, where they will disband. However, McCullom Lake, as in years past, has invited the veterans and their affiliate organizations to participate in their Memorial Day observance at the McCullom Lake Beachhouse at 11:150*clock. The public is invited to attend these exercises, and it is hoped that many of those who take part in the McHenry parade will attend the patriotic program at McCullom Lake. Memorial Day, or Decoration Day, as it was originally called, was first observed in 1868 when General John A. Logan of Illinois, who headed the Grand Army of the Republic, declared that May 30 should ever be observed as the day to decorate the graves of its dead. Thus;, the day still stands as the ope day in the year set aside to memorialize America's fallen'heroes. This is in contract to the Nov. 11, holiday, originally Armistice Day but more recently Veterans Day, which is dedicated more to the joyous occasion honoring the ending of two great world conflicts fought to preserve a free world society. ft4ack Trucks, Inc., Truck repair 349.80 McHenry Electric and Supply Company, Equipment maintenance H.E.
