YOUNG TEENS DANCE Beside all the other events planned for the picnic carnival POOR PEOPLE'S PICNIC A group of forty-two guests gathered at the home of Midge and Don Teuber on Sunday, July 28 for a "Poor People's Picnic". They were all families whose husbands work with Don and getting together to share their mutual problems gave them all a lift and everyone had a good time. They stayed with Lorraine and Dick Bemls and on Saturday, July 27, they picnicked with the Bemis and the Uelman families. Former residents here in Holiday Hills, they now reside in Cumberland Wis. Another daughter, Sandy did not accompany her parents here. ATTEND ISLAND LAKE LUNCHEON Lorraine Bemis, Pat Roth, Delores Proefrock and Margaret Cook enjoyed a pleasant afternoon last Wednesday, July 31, as they attended the annual Island Lake luncheon and gardeii party. EXAMINATION DATES ANNOUNCED FOR ACADEMIES It was announced by U.S. Representative Robert Mc- Clory (R-Lake Bluff) that the United States Civil Service commission will hold a make-, up examination on Tuesday,. Aug. 20 for applicants for appointment to the United States military academies who were unable to take the test on July 9. The purpose of the examination is to provide an objective testing method which will aid Senators and Representatives in the selection of appointees , to the United States Air Force academy, the United States Merchant Marine academy, the United States Military academy* and the United States Naval academy. In the past, the Civil Service commission has held a late fall examination, usually in early November, with a make up examination in December* However, the United States Naval academy has requested that nominations to the academy by members Of Congress be submitted by early December. Thus the latest examination to be given this year will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 with a makeup test on saturoay, N'OV. ». ON PARADE California state champs, the Velvet Knights of Anaheim, will perform in exhibition at the 1968 State Fair of Wisconsin's "World's Fair Pageant of Bugles and Drums'. Their guest appearance is set for Saturday, • Aug. 10 at State Fair Park in West Allis. The Velvet Knights were unable to enter the second annual drum and bugle competition due to an overwhelming response to this year's contest which led to the early closing of entries. The folks in our neighborhood were shocked to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. Harker of 1108 Sommerset. Folks from Whispering Oaks went to hear the Air Force band concert, on Thursday evening.
