Hi© GIOSSOT property, north ^ of Rt. 120 east ofSttgwoodroad . west of McHenry, was selected as the site for the new McHenry Junior high school after lengthy - study, discussion and research* The Oct. 5 bond issue for the ^ new Junior high totals $1,875,- T: 000 and includes the cost of land " purchase. 3 The District No. 15 board of ®' education selected this particul- 91 ar site after consulting soil " and foundation engineers, the -c. McHenry County Soil and Water ** Conservation district, the Mc- ^ Henry Planning commission and ^ the County Zoning board. Every ~ fecet of site location, soil con- ~ . (tttions and feasibility of con-, struction was considered before a final selection was made. The Soil and Water Conservation district, Planning commission and zoning board conferred and recommended that the engineers' report onthe site was reliable and should be aca* h The Glosson property was selected as a site for the new Junior high because of many important considerations. 1. Because of the proximity to areas in which there is present and future population growth. This can ba observed in the map which shows McCullom Lake, West Shore Beach, Lakeland Park, Whispering Oaks second phase, and Pheasant Valley. 2. The site is close to a main highway, Rt. 120 and affords easy access from Draper road, Ringwood road and highway 120. 3. A total of eight soil borings were performed by consulting and foundation engineers and the results of these borings, along with a location diagram of the site, were approved and found acceptable,, 4. The procedure outlined by the engineer for construction of the footings prevents structural distress because settlement will be negligible. 5. ft was established by the. engineer that maximum column loads: would be on th© order of 100,0Q,Q pounds and wall loads would be approximately 500 pounds per foot. 6. Hie water table was located from six feet to 18 feet below the existing ground surface. Percolation rates for the septic field were measured Aug. 26-27 1968 and were found to be adequate at the rate of 60 minutes per inch or faster. 7. Sewer facilities were acceptable according to the engineering report received March 7, 1968, which was as follows: "In the area of the proposed septic field it would be possible to support a septic tank on the materials existing at the site." 8. The McHenry County Soil and Water Conservation district prepared a report on the soil in the area of the proposed site and based upon the natural unimproved soil structure determined the water table levels at various points. The report stated that on the east side of Ringwood road the perched water table would vary seasonally, however, there is apparently tile in the area which has reduced the natural wetness of the area considerably. If there is a period of high water, it is possible that a septic system could not function properly unless adequate fill and tiling has been incorporated into the original construction of the septic system. Hie school site, according to the report, is in a yellow and pink colored area, with some green, which means that there are from slight to moderately severe limitations under unimproved artificially drained conditions. 9. The 20-acre site was selected because it is in compliance with the State of Illinois School Building commission which requires a minimum of ten acres and one additional acre for each 100 pupils in average daily attendance in excess of 200. Hie new McHenry Junior high school will house 900 students. 10. Since the site was not considered publically, the price was nominal as compared to other locations. 11. Hie McHenry County Planning commission maps w$re inspected and found to be in agreement with the engineers' report as to the feasibility of the site, construction of a building and a sewer system. ^ The report on the borings as to the condition of the soil is available at the central administration office at any time for public study.
