Discuss Miss America Visit (Continued Cram page 1) ! Mr. Lund pointed out that McHenry is the only Chamber serving a community this size in McHenry county that does not have a manager and adequate dues structure. Hie meeting was then turned over to the floor for comments concerning employment of a full or part time manager. Considerable discussing on the subject indicated favorable response to the idea. A committee including Don Meyer, Clint Claypool, Allan Leibsohn, Jospeh Scott, Mike Wieser and John Shay was appointed to conduct a research into all aspects of such a proposal. Details will be presented at the next general meeting in Mid-January. The committee will also determine whether a noon or evening meeting will be most advisable. Mr. Leibsohn, a member of the board of directors, briefed the assemblage, regarding the financial status of the Chamber. He stressed that support is needed from all members who must be willing to work actively, when needed, if the organization is to be successful. Before adjournment, members who were willing to volunteer their services for various committees, were asked to leave their names. ITEM: When setting the dinner table, allow 24 inches of table width per person. Musin' & Meanderin (Continued from page 1) er discussion threw the entire plan back into the confusion which has marked the program since its beginning. Once again, everyone concerned will study layouts of the various proposals as the entire matter returns to the unresolved jumble it has been from the beginning. the City Council of Woodstock must have supressed a chuckle in learning that the board is willing at this point to have professional help in v making recommendations. The council saw fit to do the same thing awhile ago and there was 100 percent correct guessing before the announcement was made as to the outcome - the Annex site. We aren't sure which members make up the county board committee on building, who will select the newprofessional help but we'll make a guess that the answer will follow the lines of the majority opinion of that committee. There are professional opinions and there are professional opinions, depending on which angle you eye the situation. It seems to us it might have been easier, in the light of last week's meeting, if the county board had gone along with the City Council from the beginning! October, undisputecQy one of |he most beautiful months of the year, seems also to provoke the greatest amount of vandalism. Maybe if s the "end-of-sumthat invades the hearts ofyoung folks. Whatever the reason, a good amount of damage is noted every year about this time. Many folks with a spirit for decorating lawns have become discouraged when pumpkins jvere not only stolen, but worse, are smashed on their sidewalks and driveways. We don't mind going along with innocent mischief on Halloween, but an entire month seems too long. Unfortunately, we missed some of the happenings at homecoming, but did manage to see that very fine parade. Only those who have worked on floats or aided in their supervision, can realize the amount of work ingenuity and enthusiasm that goes into each one. MCHS young folks deserve credit for some fine creations along ' this year's theme, Cartoon Alley. 1 It was the first year for two marching bands, and we thought each contributed greatly to the spirit of the occasion. Hie West campus musicians were sporting new uniforms with high, shako-type hats that gave a magestic appearnce to the group. The fresh-soph aggregation also did themselves proud in one of their first appearances without the aid of the upperclass band. giant frozen food storage ...fast, fast ice! CLASS STUDY Council chairman, Kenneth Fiske of Woodstock, said that now that Illinois law requires the teaching of conservation education within the school system, local soil and water conservation districts should do what they can toward making materials available for classroom use and* to establish countywide conservation education agencies; The Illinois Agricultural association distributes a conservation education resource kit for use by teachers. The cost of this can be shared on a 50 percent basis with local SWCD, Council members heard a report by Russell Gwaltney of the helicopter tour of Lake county and the Lake Michigan waterfront planned by the Lake County Soil and Water Conservation district. The one-hour tours took the passengers over Lake county conservation projects and over Lake Michigan to see the massive eruptions of pollution material being discharged into the Lake. Chairman Fiske then introduced the three "Conservation Family of the Year*' winners from the council's area. They were Mr. and Mrs. David Compton of the Kane-DuPage area, Mr. and Mrs. Garry Martin of McHenry county and the sweepstakes winner from Winnebago county, Mr. and Mrs. CARPETS AND RUGS IN STOCK IF©^ IMMEBIATE DELIVERY AS §tlI©S m W . w WALL! Hie questions asked here are in addition to those that the Census Bureau asks each month to obtain data for use by the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics in determining national employment figures. BUILDING WORK Because of heel marks, finger prints and smudges on the off white paint in some of the rooms it was decided to use plastic paint about 5 ft. high on the walls. The concrete floor will be covered with asphalt tile because the sealer used wears off in a month's time and allows cement dust to settle. Tentative plans for utilizing the complete building at the central administration office were submitted. Hie high school at Flint, Mich., has invited members of the school board to inspect the community school system. Supt. Carl Bergstrom urged the members to attend the sessions of the night school. Tickets for senior citizens were shown to the board. Any senior citizen over 65 years of age are permitted to attend sporting and theatrical events without cost if space is available. Todays electric dryer runs for pennies a week. The dollars saved buying one could run it for years. Even before you plug in your electric dryer, you've saved money. That's called beginning economics. An electric dryer can cost you as much as $40 less than a gas dryer. Once you plug it in, your electric dryer will cost you less than 30* a week. Subtract that from the $40 it's possible to save in the first place, and you'll be paid-up for years ahead. (That's called practical economics.) Meanwhile, your^electric dryer keeps giving your laundry the same gentle, radiant heat it would get from the sun. With at least one added advantage: every day is sun-day. Any machine that can save laundry for a rainy day (and let you bank on sunshine) ought to be worth a fortune. And it is. It just doesn't cost a fortune.
