[MEMORIAL DAY SERVICESA MOVING EVENT In spite of threatening skies, the Memorial Day services were a moving event for residents of the community. There were not adequate words to express thanks to the various branches of the American Legion post, No. 491 including the Auxiliary, the Drum and Bugle corps, the Rifle Squad and the Viscounts. We also express appreciation to the members of World War I Barracks who participated. Mrs. Theresa Schultz was chairman of the event, sponsored by the Cullom-Knoll Association. President of the organization Ron Godina introduced Jake Levesque who served as master of ceremonies. The Rev. Thomas Johnson, Nativity Lutheran church, delivered the Invocation. Dale and Kim Wilson led the audience in the pledge of allegiance. The memorial wreath was placed on the rock by Mrs. Mary Tomasello and another wreath was cast upon the water by Bruce Thacker. Mr. Levesque introduced each head of all the various groups and called thenfi to the microphone. He also mentioned the village officials who were present and a word of greeting - by Village President John Boyle. Jhe names of the young men w$o have served and are serving in Vietnam were read, including a brief message from Cpl. John ftourke who is now stationed there. The program closed with the Benediction offered by The Rev. Father Guzzardo, St. Patrick's church. FANTASTIC SUCCESS OF BAKE AND RUMMAGE SALE Prom President Carrie Kurth who heads the Ladies of the Lake comes thank you message for which there is no adequate vocabulary. Both the bake and rummage sale held June 1 were tremendously successful. Clothing was submitted in superb condition and there were instant buyers. Mrs. Elizabeth Fisher who was chairman of the bake sale received fabulous cooperation and there was a tempting array of homemade goodies. Both women wish to express appreciation jto all the gals who are so generous with their time and talents and to all donors who gave clothing and then returned to buy. Those who couldn't make other contributions, gave money and special thanks to these folks, too. Wonderful people in a wonderful community and that goesi for the surrounding area, too. FREE CIRCUS TRIP FOR LOCAL SMALL FRY Hey! Hey! the circus is coming to town, (well Rockford, anyway) and aM'fidiys and girls in grade school or junior high who live in the village or on Lakewood road are eligible. The tickets and transportation are free. The circus is sponsored by the Tebala Shrine Temple at Rockford and they will be presenting the seventeenth annual event, this year. The date for our village children to attend will be Thursday, July 25 and a local transportation company will supply buses to transport the youngsters. Last year, 150 children attended. Jake Levesque, a member of Tebala Shrine Temple will be the chairman for the village with assistance from Don Wattles and Van Wilson, also members of the Shrine. Wilbert Hecht, Jr., a Shrine member, has conducted the circus trip for Crystal Lake for 6 years and is once again in residence in the Village. In a later column, you will be notified how to register your kiddies for this most exciting event. AN AWESOME OCCASION TURNS CHAOTIC It was with dread that Jake and I learned Sunday morning that our DeeDee who should have been preparing for her Confirmation Day, had been taken to McHenry hospital with suspected acute appendicitis. We were in Springfield on the way to Chryssie's commencement at MacMurray college, Jacksonville. As of this writing (Monday morning), no surgery had been scheduled, but we're on the way to the hospital to find OUt. p Aunt Theresa Schultz did a wonderful job as substitute mother and DeeDee received wonderful treatment. Auntie Bev. Rourke took over with Matthew and we knew the situation was well in hand at home. Following commencement, Jake, Chrys and I arrived at McHenry hospital about midnight, to find our wee one in excellent spirits and complaining of being hungry. We're hoping to write a happy ending to this story, but right now the situation is up in the air. Please forgive any errors or omissions, because of a very agitated mind. THE WELCOME MAT IS SPREAD For Mr. and Mrs. Frank Broviak of Barrington, who moved into the village on Memorial Day. They are residing at 5309 W. Parkview. We hope they will find happiness and fulfillment in our midst. LADIES OF THE LAKE The women will meet Thursday, June 13, at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. All women cordially invited to attend. TRIUMPHANT TRIANGLE HOME . . . SCHOOL . . . CHURCH! The predominant influences in the life of a child. The Home provides love, security, example--to shape the growing personality. The School develops the mind, stimulates initiative, nurtures social responsibility. The Church cultivates faith and character, building the spiritual foundations of a noble life. Wise parents understand the vital importance of each of these influences in the growth of their child. They work faithfully to strengthen all three. THE CHURCH FOR ALL ... ... ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest foctor on ?arth for the building of charocter ond good citizenship. It is o storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization con survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's soke. (3) For the soke of his community and notion. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his morol and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible doily. Copyright 1968 Keister Advertising Service, Inc., Strasburg, Va.
