Leo Thompson. Mrs. A.M. Dohm was in Chicago Thursday to attend the funeral of her sister-in-law, Miss Barbara Dohm, 81, an old time summer resident who maintained a home on Orchard Beach road, Shalimar, for many years. .Nine members of the Catholic Daughters of America made their monthly visit to Downey to take a treat of sweets and fruit and entertain the boys Wednesday evening of last week. Mrs. Eleanor Foley accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. James Mahoney of Chicago and Harold Phalin of Waukegan spent a few days the past weekin Cleveland, Ohio, where they attended the celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the ordinationto the priesthood of Msgr. James McLaughlin. Mrs. William Wis sell, accompanied by her aunt, Mrs. Gladys Stanek, of Crystal Lake motored to Springfield, last week for a few days visit in the home of her son, Dick Wissell and family. Mrs. Mabel Knowles has returned from a week's visit in 'l . "i'l.yla , v i l • Chicago where she helped a friend celebrate her birthday and attended a party announcing the engagement of her grandson, Thomas Knowles. Mrs. A.J. Wirtz who flew to California to be with her sisters, Mrs. Ernestine Christian and Mrs. Norma Burns, following surgery in whch the kidney of Mrs. Christian was transferred to the, body of the latter, returned home last week. She was accompanied by her sister, Mrs. Christian, who spent a few days in the Wirtz home before returning to her home in Chicago. The operation, which was the only means of saving Mrs. Burns' life, was a complete success and the recovery of both sisters i s miraculous. Mrs. Burns left the hospital on Monday for her home in Sunny Mead, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. John Krohn and Fred Baldwin of Lake Geneva, Wis., and Mrs. J. Smith and rV, ,jk MARIAN RECORDS RESULTS OF MOCK ELECTION Vice - president Hubert Humphrey was victorious over the other two candidates, receiving 256 votes as compared to Richard Nixon's 219 and George Wallace's 26, in the Mock election held at Marian Central on Nov. 1. The home rooms acted as the nineteeiPprecincts and by electoral college votes Humphrey won over Nixon by a count of 10 to 9. Of 600 students, 552 (92%) registered and 501 votes were counted. The race between Hum - Bill Baldwin of Rockford were dinner guests in the Peter J. Schaefer home Thursday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bienapfl, accompanied by Mrs. Dorothy Benes of Wonder Lake spent Sunday in the Richard Rapp home in Rockford. •':& < .'I* . phrey and Nixon was very close and in eleven rooms, a one or two vote margin won the electoral vote. Hie election was organized by the history department in an attempt to arouse an interest in the national presidential election. The whole school day was devoted to the candidates and a student folk Mass was held in observance of the Feast of All Saints. Having various speakers address the assembly gave some insight into the candidate's platforms, and will aid the students in later years when their votes will really count. Because Daniel Kastys, speaker for the Wallace - Lemay ticket, could not attend, David Stark, of the history department, presented the governor's political and personal views. A§ usual, the talk was continually interrupted by hecklers shouting anti-Wallace slogans. Harold McKinney. an attorney- at-law representing the Humphrey - Muskie platform was taken ill but was replaced by Mr. McGuire of Crystal Lake. At approximately 1:45 Bernard Narusis spoke on the Nixon ^ Agnew ticket. Mr. Narusis is at| attorney - at - lawwho attended the Republican convention in Miami. After every session, the students had the chance to direct individual, questions to each of the speakers. Many of the interrogating statements flustered the speakers as the students proved they can't be fooled by political promises. Mrs. Daniel Weisz, president of the League of Women Voters, discussed the advantage of Con Con. Prior to dismissal at 3:10, students returned to their homerooms and cast^their ballot.
