Pat Canasta who contributed 23 points was the only McHenry regular left by the beginning of the 2nd overtime as all others had fouled out and the reserves couldn't quite do the job. We thought it sogood that we asked Editor Clyde Blackwell if we could use it -- with proper credit line. He was very agreeable, so here we go! THE GOLDEN YEARS (Taken from a reprint of the Treasurer State Council Chapter, Helena, Montana, Bulletin No. 26. A letter from a newly retired man to his wife.)' • * * Dearly Beloved: In coming home with my pension, to live with you 24 hours a day, I do what I wanted to do the day I married you and what Fve wanted to do these 40 years since. I didn't marry you so that I could work. 1 worked so that I could marry you and live with you. , In these 40 years I figure that 100,000 hours of this pleasure have been taken from me - that's about how many hours Fve been on the job since we married. In the retirement years that stretch out before us, I intend that we live so fully that I get some of that pleasure back. If I could I would have it that I come home to you as the pretty fellow you married with wavy black hair on top - with any hair on top; with a waistline a belt Would go wound; with feet and: stegs thatistill could chasg you around the dining table. I don't dome home to you with any of those, but I come with a deeper dedication to you«than the pretty fellow could have had. I come with affection that has been 40 years in the making. I am beholden to you for many things; that I am alive at 65, because you made me wear the overshoes andpetted me through my illnesse^; that I held my job until 65, because you kissed me off to it every morning and home from it at night.. .that no matter what difficulties I had at the company I kept my pride, because you always told me I was right when everybody all the way down to the office boy knew I Wasn't; that you never worried me about other men, not too much, that is; that you never spent more than I could make... I could not find another woman at this stage of life who could bend to my peculiarities and bear to live with me. I could riot hire a young maid who could serve me as well as you do, who could not suit me as well, or who would work for the half of my pension you get. I'm afraid you are stuck with me for the 20 - odd years I Travel Complete Travel Arrangements • Reservations and Tickets Sat all Airlines o steamship * Tours o Railroads • Car ® Cmafess Rentals © HoteSo Motels • FligM. With that off my chest, Fd lite to suggest to you a couple of things: I was considered a fairly important man at the company. Don't make me a flunky at home, Pll do any menial task you do . . .just not all of them, at your bidding. I get the morning paper at 7 a.m. and the afternoon paper at 5:30 p.m. I like to read them in peace, then hear the TV news. Will you please serve (a) the breakfast and (b) supper at some period except just at these times. And for Pete's Sake stop rattling around the living room while Fm enjoying the papers and TV. There ought to be some other time of day todustandrun the vacuum cleaner. You have many women friends drifting in for visits. Will you please male them understand that you are their hostess, but I am not their host. That I don't have to greet them, sit down with tfiet&, or say good-bye to them, but can go on about my affairs. And on this subject, will you please stop the notion that I can be the chauffeur forallyour maiden friends who don't have ears. How did they get around before I retired? Finally we have two fine, vacant bedrooms since the chilctory as they battled back from a 25 point deficit early in the game. With 30 seconds to go the local crew liad narrowedthe gap to 1 point. Two free throws and a final basket at the buzzer sealed the totes of the McHenry Clan. . Saturday night once again it was Henry Lampkin who led the scoring as he popped in 31 counters and grabbed 22 rebounds. Ron Raylor and Pat Camasta each contributed 13 points to the cause. Mike Scornavacco diminutive 5'6" guard from Highland Park has been elected captain of the Fighting scots by his teammates. Wednesday, Nov. 27 Mike will attempt to lead his teammates to victory over the base team from Fort Sheridan. The game will be played at the new McHenry high school gymnasium at 8 p.m. Next Friday, Dec. 6, the Scots entertain Mary knoll College of Glen Ellyn in an 8 p.m. game at Marengo high school. The following Thursday, Dec. 12, the squad travels to DeKalb to play the Northern Illinois freshmen squad in a 5:30 preliminary to the varsity contest. We were all set to attend the basketball game between Junior High and St. Mary's Monday, but learned too late the time of the game. Hear we missed a good one in which Junior High won 25- 23. Mrs. Henry Tonyan has promised to send us a schedule. We'd like to see some of those future prospects on the various teams. Hear our MCHS Freshman Basketball team has some size that makes the future look bright. On Saturday they defeated Grant 52-40, then set Zion down 46-30 Monday. • I DECEMBER 2 McHenry Wonuutfs' Club„-- December Board Meeting Mi's.
