Eleven separate projects are scheduled for commencement between Jan. 1, 1969, and Dec. 31, 1972. Whispering Oaks is planned to coyer three major knoll areas spread over 600 acres of wooded and open land. Involved in the total plan are eighty-nine acres of public or semi-public parks, and a 128.5-acre golf course. In addition, Whispering Oaks when complete will have 1,467 single family dwellings occupying 231.26 acres, 297 multiple family units on 16.5 acres, 21.6 acres of commercial buildings and parking facilities, and a 2.2-acre site for a church. The first phase of development listed in the newly released calendar is construction of the initial segment of the community center. This is scheduled to begin in early 1969. That year, also, pedestrian walkways through common greens and the first phase of park development are scheduled for completion. In 1970 the calendar calls for development of a small lake. Work on the 128.5-acre golf course will also begin that year. Then in 1971, the addition to the community center is scheduled for construction. At that time also the multiple family units will be built. In addition, more park ground is scheduled for development In 1971, The final phase of development will come in 1971-72, the calendar indicated. This is the development of the commercial and shopping area covering 21.6 acres. Whispering Oaks was begun in 1966. Development of the total community plan required more than four years of research on all aspects of adult living, Ladd reported. The research, conducted by a professional consulting firm, studied the preferences of persons over 45 on both housing features and the organization of the community itself.
