Reihansperger 385-0300 Guilford Five Of Rockford Sets Down W a r r i o r s 7 0 - 4 4 Warriors By Bert Hagemann The fighting orange and black experienced another one of those ' strange evenings this past week as they were soundly defeated by Rockford Guilford by a margin of 70 to 44. Friday night resembled something macabre at times as McHenry made numerous mistakes offensively, • and the defense seemed more -porous than ever. The final t score does not indicate how i the game went however. ( The first quarter ended in an 11--11 tie, and as the platoon minded Guilford coach sent his second platoon in during the second quarter, hopes were still high for success against this highly rated ball club. Thehalfcourt zone press thrown up by Rockford in the second quarter turned the game into a route as McHenry could solve it for a paltry five free throws and not one bucket. The huge Guilford lead of 34 to 16 at half time was gradually lengthened out in the second half as the orange and black went down to their third defeat of the season without a win. * Certainly this ball club is betthan they have shown this Reason, but one wonders when i^Owefis .they are going to put every- Greenlee thing together for four solid quarters of basketball. There is no doubt that after a winless season last year, and a stumbling start this year, that the Warriors are pressing way too much to be effective. No one can fault their hustle and desire, but stone hands and mental lapses do not make winners. This Friday we entertain the always rugged Warhawks, and perhaps we can loosen up physically and perk up mentally, so that long awaited first victory will be ours* Hope you can make the ball game, we'll look fof you there.
