Now we get one in which we are admonished not to use the lady's name. So I Hear SPORTS EDITORj during an opponent s free throw". -- and remember no names. OK No name She's a good m. The letter says "Don't you love to be helped with your reporting? Sometime when you are struggling for a column, how about attacking the poor sportsmanship in the opposing team making noise while a boy is taking a free shot?" You have something there, pal Such conduct was not permitted some years back No matter how exciting the game, it was sort of a Code 0' The Hills to button our lips during a free throw attempt Enthusiasm and loyalty are admirable -- but should be flavored with good sport smanship. The lady goes on to say: Thank heaven our kids are better than the teams I have visited." (You must be referring to crowds, not teams, Anonymous ) At one school the principal said it couldn't be controlled, says the lady. And she adds, "You and I know that is a lot of baloney". (1 think she said baloney.) "A couple of technicals called by the officials on the crowd and there would be silence. Right?" And as a windup: "Now remember, I said our kids were better I was so proud to hear one cute cheerleader even shushing some noisy people TEN PIN QUEENS Jan 31 Nancy Shulda - 146-206-187- 439; Nancy Kadisak - 138-152- 214-504; Marcy Goss - 141-194 158-493; Dolores Gerstein - 175 147-164-486; Judy Worts - 138- 151-144-433; Rails: Barb Munson 5-6-10; Judy Worts 3-9-10; Dolores White 4-5-7, 3-9-10 Feb. 7 Nancy Kadisak 178-182-171- 531; Joyce Lexow 177-161-188 526; Nancy Shulda 135-156-203- 494; Teresa Steffan 180-143-169 492; Dolores Gerstein 150-159- 178-487; Mary Ann Supek 134 166-179-479; High Games: Virg Steege 180; Carol Palminteri 161; Em HARVARD THEATRE 21 23 N. The machine comes to life, he is ready to go, But he can't, 'cause as yet, there is no sign of snow. For the past 18 days he's wearing a suit That is covered in zippers from parka to boot, Add mittens, and helmet, and mask on his head, "Good grief," says his wife, must you wear that to bed? Then finally it happens, the ground has turned white, He's on his machine, and roars out of sight. On the flat he'll crouch down, on the corners he'll lean, And they tell me his blood is now pure gasoline. Over hill, over river, through marsh and round trees, Over rockpile and sandpit, yet down on his knees. He looks like he's praying, as onward he flies, Is it monster or man? All we see is his eyes. He goes charging ahead when, it's 20 below, Screaming into a blizzard of onrushing snow. By what demon possessed is this new breed of man, Who finds joy in a snowstorm like no human can? But what happens in summer, when snows are not there? Is he out on the porch, in an old rocking chair? No, he's inside the house for the whole world to see, Sitting there on his snowmobile, watching T.V. HOCKEY SCHEDULE Feb. 13 through Feb. 19 Listed with date, team, place and time. They had a turnout of fifty-five members and thirty-eight snowmobiles for their dinner at a local restaurant and trail ride. Coming up Sunday they have their second annual Hodge Podge Soup outing at the Big Foot Beach State Park at Lake Geneva, Wise. Besides the picnic they have games and races for the children. Snowmobilers please be careful if you are riding on the lakes in the Chain. There are still open spots of water. Some areas to watch out for are around Coon Island, the middle of Pistakee Bay, Meyers Bay has weak spots also. Remember don't let the snow cover fool you, it acts like a blanket for ice and does not let the cold penetrate as it should. Many shore lines are open. Pistakee lake has the Fox River current that flows through it causing it to freeze slow and spotty. I received a poem from several friends who went to Yellowstone National Park for a week of snowmobiling last year. It describes us snowmobilers, I think to a tee. It reads as follows: "THE SNOWMOBILER" There's a new kind of creature emerging on earth, I'll describe him to you for watever it's worth. He comes out of hiding in winter, I'm told He rejoices in weather that's terribly cold. GRADE SCHOOL TOURNAMENT - The conference tournament for the Tri-County Basketball League is being held this week at the McHenry Junior high school. Participating in the tournament are Wauconda, Cary, Montini (McHenry), Round Lake, Parkland (McHenry), Hickory Hill (Car- pentersville) and McHenry Junior High. In the first round played Tuesday afternoon, Wauconda easily coasted by Cary by a score of 50-26. In the second game of the day, Montini was the winner over Parkland 44-24. In the final game of the round, McHenry won a close battle with Round Lake 33 to 32. Hickory Hill drew a bye. Shown in this shot is Brian Lund scoring two on a jump shot for McHenry in the final game. Also shown for McHenry is Joe Knaack (23), Tom Ludwig (45) and Scott Freund (31). The semi-finals were held last night an^ the finals will be held this evening. Warriors Fall To Zee-Bee Five 69-59 was decided. At that the Warriors were trailing by only 3 points but unfortunately they were forced to foul in order to get the ball. Here the game was decided as Zion made 7 of 8 of their free throws. The Warriors as I mentioned played great defense. They kept up their year's defense average, which shows them forcing their opponents to make 21 turnovers a game, as they forced Zion to commit 23 miscues. However, in spite of this the Warriors could not convert the Zee Bees mistakes into their advantage. <^lso in this ball game the Warriors were beaten in the "battle of the boards" 32-28. Couple these two items with poor second half shooting and it tells the tale, a 10 point loss. Although the Warriors are smarting physically and statistically in the won-lost column, many players are getting valuable experience needed for the post season tournament. Looking tonight the Warriors face the Wood stock Blue Streaks who they have already beaten once this Sunday, Feb. 13, 11 vs. Fox Lake, here, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 4, practice, here, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 7, practice, here, 8:30-10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 5, practice, here, 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 6, practice, here, 8-10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 4, practice, here, 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16,11 vs. 12, here, 8:30-10:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 8, prac tice, here, 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 7 vs. 9, here, 8-10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 5 vs. 6, here, 6:30-8:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 12 vs. Fox Lake, here, 8:15-10:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 6, prac- , tice, here, 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 1 & 2, practice, here, 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 5 vs. Rock- ford, here, 1-3 p.m. By Fred Kusch MCHS' cagers fell to defeat at the hands of Zion Benton last Friday night by a 10 point margin (69-59). The Warriors again displayed an aggressive defensive effort just as they have all year long, un fortunately, as in the majority of their losses, their offensive efforts just were not consistent. Looking at the total picture the Warriors gave an excellent account of themselves con sidering the fact that they played without 2 of their regulars. Don Prazak is sidelined for two weeks with a leg injury and Randy Neiss probably will miss the remainder of the season with his broken wrist. The Warrior offense showed signs of clicking again as the team worked the ball real well looking for good shots. Three Warriors scored in double figures. Miller, Fenner and Hurckes scored 20, 13, and 11 pts., respectively. The telling fact was that the Warriors connected on only 7 of 34 shots in the second half. The Warriors stayed in the game all the way and it was not until the last IV2 minutes of the game that the final outcome year. Game is 8:15 at Buckner gym, Friday night.
