How many of us worry from day to day about bills, school work, or status" How many of us stop and think about this won derful world in which we live? How many people are really thankful for all that they have? How many people are really happy? Happiness can come easily, if each day we would stop for a few moments, and forget our daily worries During this time we should think about the true val ues of the human experience - love, family, friendships, brother hood, sharing, and oaring. If we seek these values and try to fashion our lives around them, happiness will surely come. Ceramics is oldest and most widely-spread of all human skills. COMING TUESDAY FEEBRUARY 22 1 DAY ONLY TIMES: 7:00 9:00 It was so inspiring and en joyable that neither of us was anxious to leave when thfe program concluded. So -- we stayed and took a tour conducted by Mr. Bill Anderson. That Parkland is a lot of school. It is modern with an entirely new concept from the schooling we knew. We saw many nice, sharp kids who are sincere in their efforts to get an education. We saw special attention being given to those who need a boost. We saw a staff of teachers dedicated to their work. Never one to discount the great work done by teachers in one room country schools, we saw many advantages with equipment, area and all the tools to get the job done. We saw sincerity, patriotism and loyalty and wondered how much of this will be lost as the students move through high school and college. Those kids are bound to run into those who would try to dull their patriotism. Our hope is that they will think for them selves and realize that those who run our country are not all good - but not all bad. The news media plays up the bad - bad kids, bad politicians - - anything bad. More stress should be given to boost those who are good. Our visit to Parkland was a great experience. Those fine boys and girls must have good parents. Their conduct told us so. Last Thursday afternoon we joined fellow Rotarians in a trip to Hartland to spread some cheer to older people who thrill at a visit from outsiders. Valley Hi is a modern building designed to give comfort to its residents. Games were played -- and would you believe - everybody in the room won a prize! Cake and ice cream went over big. In an admirable spirit of doing for others, Walter Harbecke delayed a vacation trip to head the delegation. Not many would do that. "Basket by Hoffman". That seemed to come over the loudspeaker with regularity Friday night as the Warriors came alive and ran away from Woodstock's Blue Streaks 68-44. Hoffman had a hot hand, mostly from the outside. Warrior speed and dogged defense wore down the op position. And both Prazak and Bentz were strong men under the boards. Most attractively dressed man at the game was Dick Rabbitt. Red sox! How about White Sox? To name a few who stuck their heads in our door last week were Art Boger, Herman Kreutzer, Eddie Buchert, and Joe Schmitt. Visits from good friends make our days brighter. (Haven't seen Winkel for a while?) Our county college basketball team loses more often than not, but give them credit. They turn in well written reports - win or lose People like Bob Justen keep reminding us that we lost the "other" White Sox fan when Charlie Brown passed away. They have both Durocher and Santo again this year. We try to tell them they have a couple of good men there. Oh--what they say! Then, as a young lad, we worked in a hardware shop where we had to solder those things. Put a hot iron on those cans and you won't get an aroma of roses. We still feed the birds, but find they eat like pigs at the trough this winter. Have it figured out. George and Kate Schreiner didn't hang out their feeder this year so their flock came across the yard to us. History tells us that the sparrows were sent over here from England, we repeat - those English are always doing something for us. Took a ride Sunday and stopped at an antique shop We weren't buying, out they of fered old, repainted milk cans for up to twenty five dollars. Saw enough of those cans during our days on the farm. J Have been going to school} every morning the past two, weeks. At least we have driven, to the West Campus to get our - niece, Nancy Blake, there on, time for her first class. One cold morning as we saw J snow to the right of us and snow to the left of us, we asked Nancy what her first class waft? that morning. "Swimming'?,! was her reply. Shivver me' timbers! Now Nancy is back in the bus ) routine and our house is a bit • lonesome. Great men are those who leave a heritage of useful or constructive ideas to future ages; heroes are those who capture popular fancy for a ' short time. •* p William C.
