If the community fulfills a community quota, all members of the community are protected even though the members were unable to donate themselves. He received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, combat tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid, and Army history and traditions. Pvt. Michalak served with Company A, 2d battalion of the 5th Basic Training brigade. Honored guests at the initiation included Philip Cornelius, national Phi Kappa Psi fraternity president, and Kent Agnes, district ar- chon. Terry, a freshman in History- pre-iaw at the University of Illinois, pledged his fraternity during the spring of his senior year at MeHenry Community high school. Robert Blair (R-Park Forest) has announced the appointment of Rep. Bruce Waddell (R- Dundee) as a member of the House Committee on Public Utilities. Representative Waddell will assume the seat left vacant by the recent death of Rep. Horace Gardner. Ecology Club Will Collect Newspapers The Ecology club from Montini Middle school will collect newspapers for recycling this month. A truck will be at the parking lot en trance of Hornsby's in the Market Place, Rt. 120. Papers and magazines must be tied separately with a string. They will be collected Friday, March 17, 3:30; to 4:30, Saturday, March 18,10a.m. to5 p.m.; and Sunday, March 19, noon to 5 p.m. Bakery goods and ecology items will be available for sale. There young students ask the public to assist them by giving newspapers and magazines, and at the same time clearing the basement of these items. Girl Winner Of Stamp Contest At Japan AB From Japan comes word that Linda Anderson, daughter of M-Sgt. and Mrs. Leroy P. Anderson, was awarded first prize in a contest called "Stamps for Children". She received a transistor radio. Presentation was made on "Update Misawa", a nightly television news show. The young lady is a grand daughter of Mrs. Selma An derson of 3308 W. Elm street, MeHenry. Her father, stationed at the Misawa Air Force base in Japan, has been in that country for five years and is starting his seventeenth year in service. Linda has two brothers. "Stamps for Children", a major Air Force community relations project headquar tered in the 6122nd Air Base group office of information, received nearly 10,000 stamps from the recent contest sponsored by the "All American", Misawa's Channel 73 television. i It is a community project designed to collect cancelled postage stamps which are donated to children's hospital, sanitoriums and orphanages throughout Japan.
