PAGE 2-PLAINDEALER-TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 1972 "Memories In Making" For '73 Teen Caravan A Christmas card post marked Ireland and signed "Best Wishes from Your Irish Mom and Dad" brings back many memories for Don Ar nold, assistant Extension ad viser, Agriculture. The card brings back memories of the Irish coun tryside and Irish food. But most of all, it brings back memories of the Irish families Don met one summer on 4-HTeen Caravan. "Teen Caravan is more than a sight-seeing tour," says Pat Sullivan, McHenry county Extension adviser. Caravaners learn about their host countries by living with host families and taking part in family and youth activities. Being a Caravaner may mean helping a host brother hoe his family's garden in Norway, studying language with a host sister in Costa Rica, or attending a local 4-H meeting in the Philippines. "Teen Caravan delegates return home with a much better understanding of other coun tries, other people and of themselves," Pat adds. "And they bring back memories that will last a lifetime." The 1973 4-H Teen Caravan will offer other 17 to 20-year-old Illinois teen-agers the same opportunities. Next summer, Teen Caravan groups will travel to countries in Europe, Asia, Central America, the Caribbean and Oceania. Most programs begin during the last two weeks of June and are completed by Aug. 25. Costs for the summer MR. AND MRS. KEVIN E. BAUER BRIDAL COUPLE- Lynn M. Weber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton F. POET'S CORNER THANKSGIVING FRAGRANCE Thanksgiving kitchens surely are nice Filled with the fragrance of goodies and spice, Steaming pumpkin pies in crusty brown shells Golden brown turkey, baked apples as well, Crispy salad greens ready to toss, Nuts and fruits in bowls piled high, Candies and coffee and juicy mince pie. But Thanksgiving fragrance is more than food. It's doing something for another's good. It's thanking God for His loving care, By attending His church and breathing a prayer. It's helping another to be thankful too, Tho' sorrow, misfortune and failure accrue. It's remembering the past when Pilgrims first trod On American soil to worship their God. It's remembering the pom* and the friendless too Helping them give thanks for blessings few. We will gain greater strength from our unselfish giving, Thus gain more patience for our daily living. Thanksgiving's not made by a few days of baking. The fragrance of Thanksgiving takes a lifetime of making. Ethel L. Hintz « v MY SYMPHONY OF PRAISE FOR THANKSGIVING^ I'm thankful for the sweet innocence of a child's face as it looks into mine. For the trust and respect of youth and the aged. For the glories of nature and sight to see them. For the songs of birds and children and ears to hear them. For simple melodious hymns. For joys of home and family life. For quiet sanctuary that restores one's peace. For quiet meditation that restores one's soul. For friends and loved ones and fellowship sweet. For wholesome influence of quiet retreat. For faith and trust and confidence in a loving God who demands our best. Ethel L. Hintz THAT'S MY THANKSGIVING DAY It's gobble gobble time in turkey talk, but for me, It's to see happy faces all around While the pumpkins are still on the ground To be grateful, to be thankful for everything That's my Thanksgiving Day. Around the table we have mom, pa, sister, brother, of course grandma and grandpa. On the table we have yams, plenty of turkey, pumpkin pie, cornbread, dressing for everyone. To have hope, faith, love in man, Not man against man but man for man. How grand it is to be in a land of plenty and free to-love-to-be-loved, That's my Thanksgiving Day And my wish for everyone. by Henry W. The annual presentation will be held in the West campus high school auditorium Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2 and 3, at 8:15 p.m. The stage will be tran sformed into a holiday street scene, down which Tschaikovsky's puppets will stroll to sing his popular "March of the Puppets".
