Select College Christmas Card Student Design For the second consecutive year, a McHenry County college student has designed the official college Christmas card. This year's winner is Mason Croker, a freshman art student from Cary. The design will be used on the cover of the card and the artist will be credited for the work. n>ere were forty-five student entries in the contest to choose the Cover design. Preliminary judging was done by George Chandler and Joe Rybacek, MCC art instructors, and Diana Vickery, MCC director of public information. Mrs. Shirley Davis, wife of the MCC president, made the final selection. This year's card will be printed on the college's new graphic arts equipment. Young at Hearts Christmas Party December 21 Wonder Woods Women's Auxiliary Christmas Party December 23 through January 2 Christmas recess - Harrison School CHRISTMAS CARD WEEK Dec. 10 through Dec. 16,1972, has been designated as "Christmas Card Week" by Wonder Lake Postmaster, A.J. Pacelli. "We are asking the people of Wonder Lake to complete their Christmas mailings on or before Dec. 16, 1972." This particular week was chosen because it is just nine days before Christmas, and postal personnel desperately need these important days to deliver the millions of greetings in time for Christmas. The old fashion habit of mailing late adds a tremendous volume on your postal carrier who is required to perform a job almost beyond his physical capabilities. It is so easy to plan the deposit of your greetings several days earlier to assist your postal workers in shouldering the heavy workload. Join your postal workers and observe "Christmas Card Wcuklr" W txR women before the meeting is over, and you will probably have made a few friends too. VILLAGE BOARD I still hear the village board meetings are not very well attended. The board of trustees meets on the second and fourth Monday of every month. The village was incorporated April 1955. An election was held on May 14. Jakp Levesque was elected present with Mrs. Emma Pyritz being elected village clerk. Much has hap pened since, it is a certainty, much more is to come. Join in the meetings, you will get a good idea how village policies come about. , BIRTHDAY GREETINGS A very happy birthday to Markie Grim on the sixth. Happy birthday to Eddie Garner and Eddie Stacknick, Jr., on the seventh. Birthday greetings to Edith Brindle on the tenth. Happy birthday to Nancy Yates on the twelfth. VILLAGE NEWS The vehicle tags and dog licenses will be ready later. Watch this column for the dates. Not much news this week. Call me if you have any news you might have please. Any Girl Scout or Boy Scout news would be most welcome. If any of you readers get the opportunity to visit Orlando, Fla., or near there, be sure to visit Disney World, it is fan tastic. Have a good week. BIRTHS Mr. and Mrs. Edward Stacknick are the proud parents of a daughter born Nov. 24. Debra Betts Student Teacher, Davenport Schools Debra A. The Law Serves You If Owner Dies, Take These Steps Before Opening Safety Deposit Box If the owner of a safety deposit box has deceased, -ho one - including the surviving spouse or other member of the family - should open the box until authority to do so is ob tained from the office, of the Illinois attorney general or state treasurer, according to the Illinois State Bar association. The ISBA said Illinoisans should be aware that failure to notify the attorney general or state treasurer of the death of the safety deposit box owner or joint owner and to obtain consent before entering the box is punishable by law. It added that an officer of the bank or vault company where the safety deposit box is located also should be notified of the death. ' The bar group said a lawyer or other representative of the deceased may apply in person or by mail, telephone or telegram to the office of the attorney general or state treasurer for authority to enter the box, as follows: To the State Treasurer, 160 N. LaSalle street, Chicago, if the box is located in Cook County and the deceased resided in any county in Illinois or in another state. To the Attorney General's office, Supreme Court Bldg., Springfield, 111., if the box is located in any county other than Cook and the decased resided in any county other than Cook, McHenry, Lake or DuPage county.' To the Attorney General's Office, 160 N. LaSalle St., Chicago, if the box is located in any county other than Cook and the deceased resided in Cook, McHenry, Lake or DuPage county or was a non-resident of Illinois. At the time of first entry to the deposit box, certain documents, such as burial instructions, military discharge papers, and the deed to a cemetery lot, may be removed by persons entitled to these documents or by their attorney, the ISBA said. The deceased's will also may be delivered to a representative of the bank or vault company for filing with the clerk of the proper court. Insurance policies payable to a named beneficiary other than the estate of the deceased person may be released to the beneficiary who is present and requests them, or to his or her attorney. On behalf of the state, an inventory must be taken of the contents of the deposit box. In Cook county, arrangements for such an inventory must be made through the office of the State Treasurer, 160 N. LaSalle street, Chicago. That office ordinarily will send an examiner to the bank or vault company to conduct the in ventory. If the box is located at any county other than Cook, request to open the box may be obtained by telephone from the office of the Attorney General who may appoint an officer of the bank as representative of the state. The officer also may be authorized to make the required inventory in the presence of members of the family or their lawyer Liquid Preferred Over Sprays As Safe Packaging If a product is available in liquid form it should be used in preference to one which is packaged in an aerosol spray, the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness states Increasingly, physicians are finding conclusive evidence that a hazard exists for all users of such products. The tiny particles in spray mists can easily penetrate the cornea of the eye, causing serious damage. The eyes are especially vulnerable the Society warns. When using aerosol sprays, make it a point to protect them. Sprays can damage the eye through chemical action which destroys eye tissue. Babies' eyes are especially vulnerable to injury from aerosol sprays.
