Soph Cagers Drop Two Over Weekend By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry high school sophomore basketball team dropped two games this past weekend. On Friday nite the locals lost to Libertyville 49 to 44 and on Saturday nite they lost to Antioch by the score of 54 to 46. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Thompson have returned frpm a vacation Mobile T Child Slightly Hurt In Car-Taxi Mishap The Richmond Trailblazers Snowmobile club held their regular scheduled meeting Thursday night Dec. 7, at the Hunter Country club at Rich­ mond. During the regular meeting it was decided to enter the Sno- Buddy achievement com­ petition program. They will present special awards of merit to individuals or clubs of snowmobilers for outstanding acts of service or heroism in emergency situations involving the use of snowmobiles. The Sno-Buddy program encourages club participation in four general areas of ac­ tivity. Safety and driver education, club projects and events, public service and public relations. Through the use of the Sno- Buddy program the snowmobiler can improve their image by entering many public service events and showing people that snowmobiling is a useful as well as fun vehicle. After the regular meeting was held, the entertainment committee, headed by Jerry Ritzert, gave the club members a surprise in the form of cake and coffee along with organ music. After eating, tables and chairs were put away and dancing was enjoyed by the members. A very good time was had by all. Acre lane, McHenry, was injured while riding in a car driven by Jack L. Christie of the same address when it collided with a taxi cab driven by Barbara J. Brand of 2904 Hickory, McHenry. The mishap occurred Monday af­ ternoon about 5:30 at the corner of Pearl and Park streets. Christie said he was west­ bound on Pearl and just before lie reached the intersection, the cab drove into his path. He applied his brakes but was unable to avoid a collision. Ms. Brand stated she had stopped at the sign on Park and thought the road was clear when she pulled out. She said the other car "came flying down Pearl" and she swerved to avoid contact but was unable to do so. Ms. Brand was ticketed for vehicle entering stop or yield intersection. Judith B. Vandeusen of 3307 Wright road, McHenry, was charged with failure to yield right-of-way following a two- car accident Monday afternoon about 4:35 at the intersection of Route 31 and Crystal Lake avenue, east of Crystal Lake. James Buckner of 4320 Bay View drive, Crystal Lake, was north-bound on the highway when he noticed the other car crossing in front of him. He applied his brakes but was unable to stop in time. Ms. Vandeusen stated she did not see the other auto until they collided. • Obstructing traffic was the charge filed against Randy L. Elmgreen of 625 Amanda, Lakemoor, following an ac­ cident last Thursday evening about 9:25 between his car and another driven by Albert L. Thennes of 3920 West avenue, • McHenry. Thennes was east-bound on Route 120, near Industrial drive, when he saw what ap­ peared to be a car with no lights in his lane of traffic. He tried to stop but skidded into the other auto. Elmgreen was east-bound on the highway when suddenly his car failed, shutting off his engine and lights. It was then he felt the impact. Bernice M. Wilson of 802 S. Broadway, McHenry, backed from a parking space at 1250 N. Green street Tuesday af­ ternoon about l o'clock and struck a car driven by Douglas K. Johnson of 312 S. Crystal Lake road, McHenry. While investigating the ac­ cident, officers discovered that Johnson's license had expired. He was ticketed for no valid driver's license. - Frank B. Kellner of 309 N. River road, McHenry, was cited by city police for vehicle entering highway from private road or drive after a car-van accident Monday afternoon about 4:45 on Elm street just west of Route 31. A car driven by David M. Wagner of 2006 N. Oak drive, McHenry, was west-bound on Elm when the van pulled out of a service station, hitting the right side of his car. Kellner said he was planning to cross the road when the engine of his vehicle stopped. While trying to start it, the van rolled into the road, where impact was made- Three young people were taken to Memorial hospital, Woodstock, by the Woodstock Rescue squad for injuries sustained in a two-car crash Wednesday afternoon at 1:57. The accident occurred on West Thompson road. John Koch of 1508 N. Flower, McHenry, told police he was driving east on Thompson road. As he crested a hill, he saw another car, driven by Nancy Briscoe of 9505 W. Thompson, backing out of her driveway. He said she was blocking his lane so he turned left to avoid the collision. As he did, Ms. Briscoe drove forward, hoping to avoid a collision. There were no tickets given. Deaths VIOLA SORENSEN Viola Sorensen, 78, of 7406 Nantucket drive, Wonder Lake, was pronounced dead on arrival at Memorial hospital, Woodstock Monday, Dec. 18. Mrs. Sorenson was born Dec. 21, 1893, in Chicago. She came to this community from Montello, Wis., three years ago. Her husband, John, died March 13, 1968. She is survived by two sons, Wilbur Miller of Streamwood and Walter Miller of Wonder Lake; one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Lorraine) Maxstadt of Wonder Lake; ten grand­ children; eight | great­ grandchildren and one sistef, Mrs. Gerta Christensen, of Cooper City, Fla. Services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Peter M. Justen & Son chapel. Burial was in Christ the King cemetery. CITY APPROVES NEW WARD; BOUNDARY ORDER (Continued from page 1) paying Federal Excise tax and Retailers Occupation Tax. In other action, the city ex­ tended for one year an option to renew lease with the V.F.W. on the playground area at a cost of $1,000. The recent special census resulted in a sizeable increase in the State Motor Fuel Tax allotment to the city. The November allotment was $7,227.55, an increase of $1,417.93 over the same month in 1971. An amending ordinance established a maximum speed limit of 30 miles per hour on Illinois State Routes Number 120 and 31 through the entire traverse of the corporate limits of the city. The limit on Crystal Lake road, starting from Illinois Route 120 to the south line of Lillian street, was also established at 30 miles per hour. This followed a study of traffic in these areas. Proper use of the revenue sharing funds received from the federal government was discussed briefly. The Mayor and entire Council were in agreement that its use should be with the thought of reducing property taxes, that being the principle behind the plan. However, this money cannot be deposited in the general fund. It can only be used for approved projects. Each aldetman was asked to submit ideas for use of the fund at a later date. There being a penalty for improper use, approval of any ex­ penditures will be sought. McHENRY CHURCHES PLAN CHRISTMAS WEEK RITES (Continued from page 1) ST.
