What can I do if I need an extra-large piece of waxed paper, and have only a few smaller pieces? A. You can seal these together with a hot iron. Q. How can I mend broken chinaware? A. Try a cement made by mixing plaster-of-paris with the white of egg until it is creamy, applying this as you would any commercial cement. Q. How can I make sure that my hand-knitted garments will retain their shape when laundering? A. Wash these articles in mild suds, then pat into proper size and shape. Dry thoroughly and then, when dry, hold your steam iron an inch above the garment, and move it slowly back and forth over the entire surface until the steam has penetrated it thoroughly -- never actually touching the garment with the iron. Q. Is there any home method I can use to remedy some ex pensive crystal goblets that have become chipped at the edges? A. None that I know of. Your best bet is to take them to a good glazier for professional treatment. Q. How can I remove grease spots from wallpaper? A. Cover these spots with a paste made of cornstarch and water, let dry, then brush off - and in most cases the stain will brush off, too. Q. How can I remedy small rugs whose corners persist in curling up? A. Try pressing both the front and back of the rug with a hot iron and damp cloth, or soak the corner in cold water and dry between thick layers of newspaper under heavy pressure. Q. Do you have any tips for the easier removal of old wallpaper? A. Try using an ordinary paint roller, immersed in warm, sudsy water, to soak the old wallpaper for removal. Pull the paper off with the aid of a painter's broad knife. T the Eve is over, here's hoping the happiest New Year ever awaits you and your family. Thanks for your patronage! She wrote that several of her girlfriends always have boyfriends, but she doesn't. Well, I am also a girl who was just in the eight grade and I feel your advice to her was sim ply horrid! First off, you told her that she was not mature enough for a last ing friendship with a boy if her intentions were just to keep up with her girlfriends. No one said Q. How can I clean copper easily and economically? A. Rub it with a lemon half dipped in salt, then wash it in hot water, and polish with a soft cloth. Q. How can I repair a pottery vase which is cracked and leaks water. A. By pouring some melted paraffin into it and sloshing it around to cover the sides as well as the bottom. Q. How can I deal with discolorations in a sink or washbowl caused by a dripping faucet? A. Usually with a paste of cream of tartar and peroxide, applied with a stiff brush. this was her intention, but even if so, maybe she feels left out. Everybody wants to be excepted by someone or by a crowd, be cause they want to feel that they belong. You called both my boyfriend and I immature, by your reply. And we have been going together for over a year! Why don't you give kids a chance to grow up? Don't try to make our decisions for us. Advice is O.K. as long as you present both sides of a story, after all, kids like to be given a choice, too. I'm glad I never fol low your advice, and I bet you won't print this letter. OUR REPLY: We still stick with our advice for the letter that you are commenting about. We didn't call everyone in the eight grade immature, only those in the frenzied circle of frequent romances. We also feel that our reply does just what you are ask ing about: we suggested she have a chance to grow up by trying to get out of that immature cycle and concentrate on developing a mature personality and outlook. Otherwise, she might just go on looking for shallow, frequent ro mances without every truly pos sessing one of life's greatest joys - love. GET READY FOR. . . WITH THESE NYE NEW-YEARS BUYS.
