FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15, lt74 . j . B A SKETBALL Pictured above are Jeff Parttnheimer, Coach Schoeff and David Kotiw of the McHenry Junior High School displaying some of the hardware awarded to them on Feb.2, at the conclusion of the tri- county league tourney. David and Jeff along with Russ Weingart were chosen to the tri-county all conference team. The Trojans won second place in the tournament behind Hickory Hill of Car- pentersville. McHenry was also awarded sportsmanship trophies in both football and basketball. The Trojans finished the regular season as co-champs of the seven school league. Others chosen to the all conference team from the McHenry area were Ken Pedretti of Parkland, Rich Steegs and Al Reinboldt of Montini. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) Waniois Host Banington Tonight, At Dundee Saturday By Dick Rabbitt For the sixth time this season Coach Ken Ludwig's McHenry High Warriors play a double header. Tonight they play host to the Barrington Broncos, and tomorrow night they travel to Dundee to take on the Cards. The Warriors have met and defeated both teams earlier in the season. They dumped Dundee by a score of 78 to 64, and Barrington 55 to 45. Dundee is currently tied with ifton for the lead in the North Suburban, each with a record of 7 and 2. The Warriors are close tifehind with a 6 and 3 mark. Barrington is right behind the Warriors with a 5 and 4 mark. So again this is a must weekend for the Warrior five. The Broncos with no let- termen returning are having their troubles this season. They are a hot and cold ball club. They are led by junior center John Tichy a 6'4" who is currently sixth in the con- WEEKDAYS 7:30 ONLY Sat. - Sun. 7:00 - 9:00 COLOR BY DE LUXE* ference scoring race with 146 points. The Broncos are leading the league in defense, allowing their opponents slightly under 53 points per game, which isn't bad in this day or racehorse basketball. Saturday's foe, the Dundee Cardunals, are the surprise team in the conference. New coach Dick Schmidt has put new life in the Cards. Last season they depended on Unruh to do the scoring, but this season they have been a more balanced club. Along with Unruh they have 6'6" junior center Max Kipfer, and senior forward 6'3" Bill Schumacher. This threesome not only do most of the scoring, but also do District Wrestling At Antioch most of the rebounding. The Warriors will be ready for the games. They have cut down on their turnovers, they are getting more balanced scoring, and they are looking like a real good ball club. So come on Warriors let's get two more scalps this weekend. Makes us think back to times when an employee was real happy with a five dollar gold piece for Christmas from the boss. The Tuesday night bowling girls have a couple of 500 bowlers this week. Cathy Boro is up there again with a 532 series. Linda Roepenack (seems we have heard of that gal) chimed in with 183-511. Now let's shoot for 550. (never satisfied). SADDLE CLUB: Sometimes a letter comes in that we have to set aside and think about. This one came from the Chuck Wagon Riders Saddle Club. Either Mary Opfer or Anita Rhoton was the writer. If we printed your letter as written, girls, we would be infringing on the advertising department. In news stories we can't put in the ticket cost, name of the band and the like. That's an ad in the newspaper business. But, being an old Pony Boy ourself, we want to help these girls who belong to a non-profit organization. The letter tells us-and all of you-about a Spring Dinner Dance at the American Legion Hall on March 9th at 7:30 p.m. You can call Mary at 385-3338 or Anita at 385-3840. How's that, girls? We hope a lot of people will saddle up and join your party. Remember Way Back When you used to pull up to a gas station (with a hand pump) and ask for either five gallons or a dollar's worth? Your Model "T" Ford ran a long way on that fill. Dick Rabbitt, ever the op timist, thinks if the Warriors can knock out the Barrington Broncos here Friday night and the Dundee Cardunals there Saturday night they will be right in the thick of the first place spot in the North Suburban. They can do it, Dick! i? .• i' - After a short chat with John Behrendt, his parting shot was: season, advises the drivers will meet during the first week in March to iron out final arrangements for the up coming season. Among the changes slated is the requirement of mufflers on all the race cars at Waukegan in 1974. The great Casey Sten gel who managed the New York Yankees to so many titles, defined ability this way: "The art of getting credit for all the home runs your players hit." Listening to pro basketball stars we heard of one team scoring 121 points and getting beat. Hardly seems possible. In our high school days it was the custom to play the alumni one game each year. One time, in the "box-car" gym in what is now Landmark School, the alumni team beat us 9 to 6 in one of the roughest games of all time. When the old boys got through with us, we were battered and bruised. Nobody thought of calling a foul unless it was "intentional". And who would call an elbow in the kisser intentional! Bet Frank Justen can remember some of those games. (Just between us, he was the roughest, toughest and fastest of all). TEN PIN QUEENS Feb. 11,'74 Mpn., 9:30 p.m. I. McNish 193-532; M. Tots Have Fun As They Learn In YMCA Pool 3KJJ BIG_WEEK * DON'T MISS IT! ^El^AYS7|20^9j20SAT.-SUN. 3:2^5720-7:20-9:20 ""WSody- Diane cAlleq, Tfeaton Lake Region YMCA in Crystal Lake located on High way 31 about Vfe mile south of Highway 14 has been teaching tots ages 4-6 in swim and gym program with much success. The way they take to water, who would have thought it possible that tots could have so much fun? The gym program where coordination and em phasis on low organized games are present, you would not believe how anxious they are to come to the YMCA for their lessons! Numerous parents have mentioned how their children wear the YMCA T-shirts even to school and refuse to take them off and practice basic stunts all week waiting for their gym and swim program. The YMCA began to cater to this age group for the need to learn how to swim is necessary in our area since so many lakes are located around us. Next term starting March 4, the YMCA will run swim programs for 6 months to 12 months, a parent and tot program and 1-3 year old swim program. These classes will run 45 minutes in length. For more information on 6-12 months, 1-3 years and 4-6 year old programs, call the YMCA to receive a brochure on details of pre-school program at 459-4455. Registration will begin Feb. 23 on Saturday. Class limits will exist, make sure you sign your child up early for this enriching experience.
