Hurckes Wed Saturday A beautiful winter wedding was solemnized in First United Methodist church, McHenry, when Ann Marie Wilkes exchanged nuptial vows with Robert L. Hurckes, Jr., Saturday, Feb. 16. The Rev. Ralph Smith officiated at the 3 o'clock services in a church decorated with altar bouquets of blue and white gladioli, pomps and carnations. Miss Wilkes is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter S. Wilkes of 4504 Garden Quarter, McHenry, and Mr. Hurckes is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Hurckes, Sr., of 2721 Tich- field Terrace, McHenry. Musical selections of "There Is Love" and "One Hand, One Heart" were, presented by soloist, Carol Leighty, ac companied on the organ by Mrs. John Leighty. The pretty bride wore an ivory dulcette satin gown fashioned with a high neckline and long fitted sleeves trimmed with Venice lace and small, satin-covered buttons. Venice lace woven with pale blue satin ribbon enhanced the empire bodice, accented the A-line skirt and edged the hem. A pale blue satin sash and matching streamers completed the picture gown. Her fingertip illusion veil was attached to a matching headpiece. She carried a colonial bouquet of ivory roses, stephanotis and baby's breath. Nancy Stetter of McHenry was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Sue DeCicco of McHenry, Mrs. Debbie Jost of McHenry and Mrs. Robbi Hurckes of Kenosha, the bridegroom's sister-in-law. The attendants were attired young folks able t' read, write 'r add a few digits. Only a few years ago, th' high school gradiate came out wi' th' basic edication o' college trained young folk. After all, a body goes t' school in order t' learn th' necessary things, enabling the mind t' absorb, reason, analyze, calculate, an' learn t' apply these things t' life. Only th' mechanics 're taught, an' it's up t' th' in dividual t' use 'em. When th' basic mechanics 're interfered wi', an' found wantin' in quality, th' child suffers. That youngun' goes out inter th' world wi'out th' necessary background in edication. We know that th' important years fer learnin', are from th' cradle t' th' 'teens. When young'ins started school in days gone by, their parents had taught 'em th' alphabet, numbers, an' many could spell three an' four-letter words. Some had been taught t' count an' add small sums. A few years back, parents wuz told not t' teach th' little-uns, as it interfered wi' th' new methods. Well, th' result is sad, an' ac counts fer much o' th' in stability in our young people. In order t' learn, in th' old- fashioned way, application an' discipline wuz a necessary ingredient. It> no wonder that th' decorum o' young people has changed, when th' loose deportment, allowed in our schools proceeds t' turn out youngsters, wi'out respect fer anythin', 'r e'en 'emselves. When we git back t' strict regulations in our schools,- strong disciplinary methods, wi' suitable penalties fer breakin' th' rules, we'll turn out a better future society.
