Church School Staff Honored The twenty-five members of the church school teaching staff and their husbands or wives were honored at a special dinner held Tuesday evening at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry. Gary Fields, the principal of the East campus of the McHenry high school, was the featured speaker. Following his very interesting presentation based on the theme, "Are Students Today Different?" the members of the group became involved in a question and answer period. The entertainment for the evening was provided by "The Sweet Adelines" under the direction of Mrs. Pat Gattone. Don Williams served as master of ceremonies for event. The program for the evening was planned by the Parish Education committee co- chairmen, Robert Jessup, and Mrs. Midge Teuber, School Superintendent Randy Swikle, and Pastor Roger Schneider. Those serving the dinner in cluded Berniece Spruth, Harold Spruth, Esther Nelson, Willard Nelson, Eva Brown, Agnes Weber and Mila Bauer. Small metal plates, with the donor's name inscribed, to be placed on a larger plaque, are being prepared for $300 and $500 contributors and in dividual plaques for $1,000 donations, in preparation for the McHenry County Historical society's annual meeting Sunday, May 19. Two years ago when the society conducted a fund- raising drive, many pledges were made to be paid over a three-year period.Because the plates for the "charter-donor" A plaque must reach the jeweler >v April 15, and because it is felt some may like to advance their pledges to be included, this is a reminder to send a payment as soon as possible. Anyone wishing to check on the status of their pledge may call Mrs. Otis (Ruth) Cripe. Although cash contributions in any amount are greatly appreciated and much needed, the many volunteers who are helping prepare the building and displays are also much appreciated and needed. "Seventy-eight per cent of the money is going to go to the CTA, but Chicagoans are going to pay only 31 per cent of the costs. Even a County board member ought to be able to figure out that is a bad deal. "Mrs. Dorothy Carlson "McHenry" winter, the temperature has been kept low and little work has been done there. Most of the work has been concentrated on completing the remodeling and painting the custodial apartment, halls and restrooms, and cataloging the many artifacts and library books. Shelving removed from the old Stone Drug store in Woodstock and donated to the Museum has been installed in the hall in the past month, and by mid-March, as the tem peratures warm up, volunteers will be able to arrange displays on the shelves, as well as in the many showcases and exhibit cases. Mannequins or dress forms are needed to display the period clothing items, of which the Museum has a great many. Any dress shop or department store that may have changed to a newer style of mannequin, but hopefully have not disposed of the old ones, will find a donation to the Museum much appreciated. A Civil war flag, donated by Mrs. Francis Muzzy of Marengo, is presently being mounted on a matted backing by Leona Hartmann of Union to preserve its fragile fabric. Another flag, recently acquired by the society, has forty-five stars, and was the official flag for a period before Oklahoma, Arizona and New Mexico joined the United States. Bids for the restoration of an 1852 map of McHenry county, thought to be the only one in existence, are currently being investigated, but the project is expected to be delayed because of the cost. Perhaps someone would be interested in un derwriting the cost and donating it to the Museum as a tax-deductible gift. Most of the items being placed on exhibition have the donor's name displayed on a card along with a short history of the artifact. It is hoped everyone will "Think-Museum" before throwing things away. Plans are being made and an application is being filed to participate in the federally- sponsored RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer program). This will provide reim bursement for mileage at a figure of 11 cents a mile and lunch money of $1.25 (after four hours work). Further in formation on this will be released as soon as available. Since the society's president, Dorothy McEachren, will be convalescing for about a month from recent hospitalization, anyone desiring information on the Society or the Museum, should call the vice-president, Mrs. Cripe at 815-923-4105.
