This actually is the least enrollment increase during the past three school years, but still represents a growth of almost four classrooms of students this Jlr. May, elementary school principal, is currently making a census of all pre-school children in the district. The results of this census will be forthcoming in another issue. I I I I I I I I TOP RATING Johnsburg School District 12 received the highest rating possible (a 5 on a 5 point scale of 1-5) when evaluated by the State Department of Education personnel and eighteen evaluators from schools in northern Illinois or members of offices of county superin tendents of schools. Two of the evaluators were so impressed that they requested applications for teaching positions with the district. Johnsburg school's curriculum and individualizing and per sonalizing of instruction were listed as commendable. Many of the evaluators praised Johnsburg school's programs that take the child onward from his instructional and interest level as what the state is encouraging, and which has become a reality at Johnsburg schools Models to report pupil progress by per formance objectives, personal folders of students, and student and staff involvement were also thought of as exemplary. The main areas for John sburg school to consider for improvement in the immediate and distant future focused on: a) Expand the Industrial Arts, Home Economics, Art CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our heart felt appreciation for the many acts of kindness, cards and floral offerings received during the illness and passing of our loved one. Mr. Schappert, the state's head evaluator, condensed each subject area evaluator's report into two or three sen tences, and basically the most important recommendations are given as above. The final completed report is available in the administrative office should anyone want to inspect the final recommendations. SEND EVALUATORS -- Before the state evaluation in November, the Office of Superintendent of Public In struction had corresponded with Johnsburg school ad ministration requesting a number of teachers or ad ministrative personnel to serve as evaluators as a component of the team evaluation ap proach of the O.S.P.I. to assist in evaluating other schools in northeastern Illinois. After the state evaluation in November, the state requested that still more Johnsburg teachers become involved as evaluators, and as of this publication sixteen Johnsburg school teachers or ad ministrative personnel have served as evaluators in other schools. The following John sburg school personnel were involved: Dr. Andreas, Generalist; Mabel Weber, Title I Reading; Scott Seaborn, Math; Hank Schmitt, English; Mary Sigworth, Media; Ferol Tomlinson, Media; Edna Robel, Art; Dave Borger, Math; Larry Reinhard, Science; Doris Clinansmith, Reading; Mary Rose, Generalist; Jim VanBosch, Generalist; Ann Latz, Language Arts; Grace Vyduna, Generalist; Hal Thompson, Music and Randy Swikle, English. TIME CHANGE Beginning Tuesday, March 12, all Johnsburg schools will begin and dismiss on the original time schedule that was in effect until Monday, Jan. 14. At that time, for safety pur poses, all school times were moved back V? hour to alleviate the problem of children walking and waiting for busses in the dark during the early morning hours. The decision to resume the original time schedule on March 12 was predicated on the fact that a call to Adler planetarium and a con versation with the astronomer in residence there indicated that on about March l, the sunrise and time for the first Johnsburg school district bus pick-up would correlate. It was decided to allow a few extra days for even more morning light to become available, and the March 12 date was chosen at a recent Johnsburg school board meeting. ENROLLMENT As of last week, Johnsburg school continues to increase in student enrollment. At this time, there are 104 more students than at this time last year in the schools in the FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of March 8, 1934) Proposal to amend the Pure Milk association membership agreement will be made at the ninth annual meeting of the Pure Milk association con vening in Chicago March 13, at the auditorium theatre. More than ninety members were present at one of the largest meetings of the year held by the McHenry County American Legion Auxiliary at Woodstock. County Com mander David R. Joslyn, Jr., was present and gave an outline of the joint party to be given in May at Woodstock at which time it is expected that hundreds of Legion men and women will gather for this social event of the year. Next Sunday will be a busy day at the high school gym what with Woodstock bringing over three basketball teams to play in a regularly scheduled game of the county league. Klem Berg is bringing his girls team to play the curtain raiser at 1:30. Then Joe's Aces will meet the Woodstock seconds and after that the two first teams will do battle. Mrs. Howard Culver was hostess to the members of the Linger Longer club at her home Thursday evening. Prizes in bunco were won by Mrs. Louis McDonald, Mrs. Ray Howard and Mrs. P.J. Schaefer. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of March 10, 1949) A McHenry mother became the parent of triplets last Sunday and the youngsters are causing a great deal of interest even though they are only little Holstein calves. The mother is a seven year old Holstein and gave birth to three heifer calves weighing 51 lbs., 47 lbs., and 62 lbs. They belong to the herd of Robert Vogt, Jr., who resides north of McHenry. In the past sixteen months the bodies of forty young men from McHenry county who died during service and were buried temporarily overseas have been returned for final rites in this area. Leon H. Grosby of Edwal Laboratories, Inc., Ringwood, has been promoted from plant manager to head of the pur chasing department. Very attractive suggestion boxes are being placed in the local drug stores this week and a number of them will also be placed in other business houses. The Business Men's association is asking people to place in these containers their suggestions on how we can better McHenry. A new business opened March l across from the Lilymoor grade- school, for merly known as the Trading Post. The business to be called Lilymoor Grocery is owned and operated by brothers, Joe and Philip Terran of Chicago. Mr. Guy R. Buck, 65, passed away March 4, Mr. Buck had been a resident of Sunnyside Beach subdivision near Johnsburg for more than fif teen years where he spent more than half of each year. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of March 12, 1964) A kind fate saved Edwin Borter of Ann street from serious injury when he fell from a steel structure at the site of construction for the McHenry clinic. As he fell about thirty feet he landed on his neck and shoulder on some dirt, snow and straw. He had the fifth vertebra in his neck fractured and his neck was placed in a brace. A Stewart Infra Red sand wich truck caught fire and began to burn Monday morning just after it fulled into the Legion parking lot to make a delivery when a broken gas line caused fire to break out. Someone is about to throw cold water on your long term plans. Some under your sign have been enjoying the luxury of a controlled hallucination. No doubt you already know, there's a whisper ing campaign going on among your routine associates. The advice is obvious. Don't become involved, further! First impression and personal grooming, ac cording to your chart, will play an important role. Incidentally, you must avoid excessive physical pleasures, during this cosmic cycle. Provocation and "needling" is heading your way. Remember the old saying that begins with "sticks and stones?" Don't let an associate get under your skin. Thoughts of the opposite sex could, very well, smother your ability to perform routine tasks. Lock onto your job, mission or project. During this week's cosmic cycle, you could, very well, be a case of being honest but hope less. Seek professional advice . . . before making a major decision. A fine cage won't feed a bird. So? Get your sense of value in order. It seems as though you're heading toward an impractical invest ment. Listen well, Scorpio! According to your chart, a member of the opposite sex is attempting to cross your wires with misinformation. Don't rely on outside help. It's not an ideal time to operate on promises. Turn around - only your shadow will be there. A subtle chain of events will accumulate to change a long thought out plan. Also, examine a document carefully - before giving your opinion. It's you, and you alone, that must face adverse trends. Don't look for help or sympathy. You'll have to go it alone, this week! A member of the opposite sex might offer you help; There'll be strings attached. Oh, yes! You'll face a bad case of self pity.
