The brewing of beer was started at the McHenry plant in January. H.J. Schnaitman is vice-president of the company and manager of the local plant. Andrew Jesacher, principle owner and supervising brew master, Robert Reno in the office, Herman Moerke is secretary and treasury of the company. Patsy Boley of McHenry, also employed at the brewery comes from a family of brewers and inherits his father's knowledge of making good beer: Among those already employed are John E. Freund, Leo Heimer, Will Heimer and Tony Blake. An interesting and in structive day was spent Friday by the grade school and high school teachers who visited schools in DesPlaines and Elgin. It looks like McHenry is to be represented in the newly organized National Softball League this summer. Plans were formulated at a meeting Tuesday night to look further into the matter of providing lighting equipment for the present baseball diamond. A director was selected for every township in the county, each to serve for one year. A new basement is being put under the Masonic hall on Court street and when completed will be used as a dining and recreation room. The kitchen, now on the west part of the main floor, will be moved to the basement. Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Kraft and daughter have moved from Chicago to their recently constructed home on Golf View road. The Robert Krin home in Lily Lake was the scene of a family gathering which honored three members on their birthdays. Honored guests were Mrs. Eleanor Wirfs, her daughter, Eleanor Catherine, and Mrs. Krin. The home of Frank Im- mekus, Jr., at Lily Lake was entered recently by burglars and found missing were a washing machine, 10 gauge shot gun, mercury camera, two Woodstock typewriters, diamond stick pin and vacuum cleaner and attachments. The Keig Stevens Co. of Rockford announce the in troduction of its well known brand of bread "Colonial" in the independent stores of McHenry. The bread trucks are able to deliver to local stores within one hour of opening time. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of March 19, 1964) John Behrendt, the 71-year- old Lilymoor man who courageously recovered an estimated $3,500 from a bank thief early Monday morning, is a guard at the Prospect Plaza State Bank in Mount Prospect. The Lilymoor man, a retired tool and die maker, served as an extra on the McHenry city police force for three and one half years. He is also a deputy sheriff and a member of the Fox Valley Police Reserves. He has been employed in his present position for six months. Lester R. Bacon, McHenry township assessor for ten years, died March 13 in Downey Veterans hospital. McHenry police will start checking on 1964 city vehicle tags starting April 1. Congratulations to Joe M. Schaefer of Johnsburg who turned 90 years old on March 9. He observed the day by ac companying Ben and Hilda Thelen and daughter, Kathy, to Richmond, where they visited his two daughters, Sister Jacob and Sister Victricia. A pretty wedding was solemnized in Zion Lutheran church March 14 when Miss Judith Seifert, Lakeland Shores, McHenry, became the bride of Mr. Joseph Tinch of Crystal Lake. Rev. Carl Lobitz officiated. Designate GH Scout Week In City The week of March 10-16 ba« been designated as Girl Scout Week in McHenry. Mayor Joseph Stanek signed the proclamation this week in the presence of Mrs.. John Johnson, Neighborhood chairman. Noting that the year 1974 marks the sixty-second an niversary of the founding of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., the mayor lauded Girl Scout efforts over the years to "build better relationships among persons of all ages, religions, races, and nationalities," and "to improve the quality of our en vironment." He added, however, that "much of the credit for the splendid record set by Girl Scouts in our community must go to the men and women volunteers, and to the many civic, religious, fraternal, educational, and professional organizations that provide Girl Scouts with leadership, meeting places, sponsorship for troops, and financial aid." Mayor Stanek called on all citizens of McHenry to "Join Scouting - Be a Girl Scout Leader. Continue to support this fine organization which has done so much for our youth and for our community." Stanek OPPOSE RTA At the regular meeting Feb. 28, the trustees of the village of McHenry Shores went on record in opposition to the RTA. Members of the board had previously attended public hearings to learn all the facts. The resolution passed reads: "As a village board we oppose the RTA bill as written and recommend a 'no' vote at the polls March 19, 1974". The resolution passed with all six trustees voting in favor of it. this meeting was "Crisis in Food and Food Production". It is one of nine such meetings being held throughout the state in the various districts of the Illinois HIA. Robert Eaton of El wood, director of District 1, served as chairman of the meeting. The disappointment of poor quality remains long after the joy erf the cheap price is forgotten. Dr. William Harvey, discoverer of circulation of blood in the body, willed to his fellow physicians his greatest treasure~56 pounds of coffee, at his death in 1657.
