Meeting was opened with a prayer and pledge allegiance to the flag by President Beverly Schmitt. Reports were given on the St. Patrick Day card party and the Father-Son breakfast. Both were successful and a thank you was extened to committees and all who helped. Eva Freund gave a talk on cancer and stated that the cancer drive would start in Burton Township through April and May. Jean Kagan spoke on the "Right to Life" and presented an informative display. The President appointed Frances Heinemann as nominating chairman. It was announced that the cleaning of the church would be on Tuesday, April 9th after 8 a.m. mass. Members were urged to come, much help is needed to prepare the church for Holy Wedc services and Easter Sunday. Children who have attended CCD classes in preparation for this event will receive their first Holy Communion on Sunday, April 21. A special mass will be celebrated for the first Communicants at 12:30 p.m. Father Kilduff spoke briefly. He thanked the mothers for their cooperation in bringing the altar boys in time to sorve at mass on their appointed days and asked for participation from those who attend week day mass.The Way of the Cross as we live it in the world today was presented by children from a CCD class. The President offered books to read on loan. The next meeting will be on Aptfl 18. 1CWC Eighteen members of the Lotus Country Woman's Club enjoyed a luncheon prepared for them by the committee in charge on Wednesday afternoon, March 20, at the town hall. All present admired the great improvement made to die interior of the hall. Wood panelling on the walls, a new ceiling with inserted fluorescent lights and the kitchen will be completely rejuvenated with new cupboards, counter space and floor. The dub has donated new drapes. LAS VEGAS TRIP Those who flew to Las Vegas for a vacation were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Komar, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gwizdala, Mr. and Mrs. John Krumpen and Mr. and Mrs. William Krumpen. CANCER CRUSADE The Cancer Crusade Kick-Off dinner was held in Crystal Lake on March 11. Mrs. Walter Brown and Mrs. Arthur Kattner attended the dinner. ATTENDS CONVENTION John Vierke , who is the curriculum director of Grant Township Educational Co­ operative attended the convention of National Association of Supervision and Conservation Teacher Of Year Entries Sought Teachers who have conducted imaginative programs focusing on environmental needs and who have been leaders in this area of service are urged to submit entries for the McHenry county "Conservation Teacher of the Year." The announcement calling for entiries comes from Robert Fleck, president of the McHenry County Soil and Water Conservation district, who announced details of the county, state and "national competition. Entry forms are available at the district office on North Curriculum Directors. He and Mrs. Vierke and children Ann and Mark flew to Anaheim, Calif. They also (dan on taking in some of the sights. Competition is divided into two categories: Kindergarten through fifth, and sixth through high school grades. For the first time county winners will compete in . regional competition. Those winners of the sixteen regionals in the first two classes will compete in state-wide competition. The two state winners fix* the first time will vie in national competition, a first and a compliment to Illinois leaders who established this recognition program for teachers. Sponsors of the contest in McHenry county are the McHenry County Soil and Water Conservation district and the office of the county superintendent of schools. State-wide competition is sponsored by the Illinois Soil and Water Conservation district and the Department of Conservation Education in the office of the superintendent of public instruction. Winners in the regional competition receive a practical award, a scholarship to an environmental education workshop which entitles the participants to receive college credits for the week long affair. In the past, McHenry county has had two state runner-up winners during recent years.
