ELECTION NOTES Last week's primary election found precinct 12 voting 277 against, and 29 for the R.T.A. referendum. The mental health program was favored by 160, and 82 voted against it. In the race for Democratic precinct committeeman, George Luto won over William E. Milbratz, 136 to 64. It is for kids age 12 and under. Donations ef hard boiled colored eggs can be brought to either Karen Parks, or Barbara Caron's house, Friday, April 12. The Easter Bunny has promised to come down to the beach to give out prises to the kids who find die special eggs. Kids should bring a bag to carry home the eggs they find. LADIES OF THE LAKE The Ladles had a well 115 spurgeons attended meeting, March 14, when they held their white elephant sale. Some unusual and interesting things were brought and bought.* Next month's meeting will be a week earlier than usual, due to the regular meeting date falling on a religious holiday. Ladies are asked to wear an Easter bonnet to the April 4, meeting. Any kind, finny, pretty, or unusual. Prizes will be awarded for the best ones. BEACH GALS William Walter, a past member of the now disbanded Cidlom-Knoll Association was> at the March 20, beach gals meeting to give the gals some information on setting up a festival. The gals have hopes of bringing back the festivals which used to be run yearly by the Cullom-Knoil association. Mr. Walter was very helpful, informing them of estimated costs, work to he done, and eqtfpiment needed. The gals learned a lot and appreciated Mr. Walter, talking the time to than. next regular meeting is Wednesday April 3, 7:30 p.m. and an open house memt •drive meeting is set for A( 34. All lades in die village are invited to this open house, Vfvhere refreshments will be served, and die evening spent getting acquainted. Guests will be familiarized with some of the Beach Gals activities, but those who attend are hot obligated to join die group. COMMUNITY CENTER Due to preparations for the auction and bake sale March 30, the community center will be closed to children Friday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30. That is for just this week, regular hours to resume afterward. . YOUNG CHILDREN'S AFTERNOON To give younger children a better opportunity to enjoy the community center, Saturday afternoons have been set aside for just kids, ages 5 to 12. Chaperones will stay with diem each Saturday, from l p.m. till 4 p.m Because (rider children use the building most every evening, no kids over 12 will be admitted on Saturday afternoons. The open afternoons for younger children begin April 6, and will continue until the center closes for the warmer months. BEST DRESSED? Teacher Will Lead Students On Trip Abroad Ms. Peg Houk, Social Studies teacher at McHenry high school, will accompany a group of students this summer on a summer school study-travel program in Europe. The group will join other students from the Midwest in Chicago July 1, where they will depart from O'Hare airport and be gone for thirty-one days. They will travel throughout Italy, cross the Alps to Innsbruck, Austria, for sightseeing and a final examination. After leaving Austria, die group will go on to Paris and London. In Italy, students will spend ten days in Rome, travel south to Naples, Pompeii and Capri, then north to Siena, Assisi, Florence, Pisa, Venice and Innsbruck where die academic part of the program will end. The students will continue on to Paris and London, returning from Paris, Aug.l. Lectures will be given in ancient and modern history, art and architecture, not only on campus but also at many on- site locations such as die Roman Forum, Pompeii and the Etruscan sites. The students will also be studying comparative cultures and government throughout the trip. Connor, director of the Chicago region, U.S. Civil Service commission, has announced the award of a 88,287.78 grant to McHenry county. The grant is authorized wider die Intergovernmental Personnel act of 1970 and is for the development of Classification and Pay Plans for McHenry County, which employs 400 persons. A system of classifying jobs and a system of evaluating jobs in relationship to salaries will be developed. In addition to grants, the Intergovernmental Personnel one semester of credit toward their high school graduation requirements.
