It's an unlikely looking museum; it is in fact an old shop with several floors above. B e f o r e s t e p p i n g i n s i d e it's hard'to imagine it's filled with a fascinating col lection of toys. There's such a wealth of detail dHults are intrigued by it--not just chil dren. The limited space avail able is used with great ef fect; no corner is wasted and- there are displays up the stairs along the passage ways. At the moment there's a special display of Chinese toys on one floor, both new and old. Among the many items dis played are traditional lan terns and kites and, in con trast. Chairman Mao badges. Apparently there has been for some years a craze among Chinese boys for collecting and swapping these. Another room is entirely given over to the toy theatre. This was a very p,opular Victorian pastime which had its heyday from about 1U40- 1860. Popular stage produc- t i o n s were reproduced in cardboard. Miniature scen ery .characters and playbooks were published within days of a play being produced on the stage. In a darkened top floor room some of the staff repro duce these Victorian plays in one of the toy theatres, a n d a p a r t f r o m p r o v i d i n g amusement it gives a glimpse of the melodrama in favour in those days. There are Victorian dolls and doll houses, and many toys of that era, plus peg dolls and puppets. Also, displays of toys from Hun gary, Czechoslovakia, Rus sia, Bulgaria, Japan, Africa and India, to name just a few of the countries repre sented. One room is devoted to French toys; particularly interesting is the imitation food; a frying pan full of fiiedeggs, sardines in a tin, fruit, cakes and a cheese- board with various types of cheese. If you are in London and have an hour or so to spare it's well worth a visit. LOUISA'S LETTER Dear Louisa, I am disturbed over the letter from the man whose wife had left him and who was trying to locate her. Perhaps she was not hap py with the people and kind of lives they were living in her congregation. I left a community such as this and sought the companionship of people who believed as I do. I pray that all of his fam ily will be united once again and i am sure that if he prays and tries to live by his Bible all will come right again. L.A.-Fla. Answer: There are many reasons why some people leave home, it may be that they feel they are being unfairly treated by other members of the family. Unless the cause for such actions is mental or physical 1 THERE ARE OVER 4CO K/N OS OF CHEESE brutality, a person will do well to examine himself or herself and try to find out if they themselves are not part ly to blame. Some people have a way of rationalizing everything they do as the right thing. They fail to take into ac? c o u n t t h e o t h e r p e r s o n ' s point of view. No one is per fect and there are usually two sides to every contro versy. I cannot blame a woman for leaving home if a hus band becomes impossible to live with because of abuse or immorality but other than this there is always a chance of working things out if con sideration and patience exist between the two parties.
