Golf View road, McHenry, died March 26 at the Woodstock Residence. Born in Chicago, she was a retired interior decorator. Among her survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Mildred) Jackson, McHenry, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. Kenneth (Ruth) Henderson, Lombard; a brother, Alfred Radtke; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband, Albieum Daniel Corkell, preceded her in death in 1957; also a sister, Mrs. Frieda Mayer, and a brother, Gustaf R. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 in Arlington cemetery, Elmhurst. The Peter M. Justen and Son funeral home made the arrangements. CARL H. SWANSON Carl H. Swanson, 72, 5406 W. Highland drive, West Shore $each, died Tuesday, March 26, at McHenry hospital. He was born in Sweden July 15, 1901, and came to the United States in 1923. A resident of McHenry for 24 years, he was a self-employed brick layer. Survivors include his wife, Eileen Cowan Swanson, whom he married in 1951; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Igrid) Peck, Ottawa; and a sister and brother in Sweden. Visitation is scheduled after 2 p.m. Thursday at the Peter M. Justen and Son funeral home where services will be conducted by Rev. Virgle Chappell of the First Baptist church at 11 o'clock Friday morning. Burial will be private. ON AMNESTY The administration has ad­ vised Congress that only the President has the power to grant amnesty. It opposes congressional actioft on any of the bills offering to ease the plight of Vietnam war re- sisters. Auxiliary Notes From V.F.W. The Ladies auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars of the state of Illinois held a luncheon Saturday, March 23, in Chicago in honor of Odie Lee Gossett, who is national president of the organization. A check in the amount of $2,000 for the Cancer and Research fund was presented to Mrs. Gossett from the Ladies auxiliary of the state of Illinois. Mrs. Gossett told of her travels and visits to veterans' hospitals in Korea, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong and Germany. She also spoke of the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries in some of the countries she visited. Da Hog an and Gory Kuck members of the Ladies auxiliary to V.F.W. PONCA STREET, McHENRY, ILLINOIS PAGE 5 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, MARCH 2#, 1974 District Music Contest Winners Postpone Employment Of School Personnel During a regular meeting of the board of education of Harrison school, Wonder Lake, members deferred action on employment of certificated employees to a special meeting to be held Tuesday, April 2, at 9 p.m. After examining bus specifications, the board agreed to submit them for a bid with a committee of G. Street and the superintendent to open bids and process them for board action April 9. The board also heard a report from the superintendent concerning the school plan and „jts progress. • Members approved an addition to its rules and regulations concerning management of, and access to, student records. Approval was given to hire , Mrs. Margaret Morrissey as a lunch room supervisor and to permit Lewis Blomgren, custodian, to take off three weeks in May and June without pay. A resolution for a tax shelter annuity for one of the teachers was also approved by the board. In other action, the. resignation of Mrs. Patricia" VonBergen, who has been on a maternity leave,-was accepted. Mrs. Pam Doherty and Mrs. Kay Darby were placed on maternity leave for the 1974-75, 1975-76 school years. A change in test series calendar proposed by the Test Selection committee was okayed as well as an increase in expenditures for Title I and Title II ESEA caused by the release of additional monies. THE JOHNSBURG JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND THE JOHNSBURG JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT CHOIR Both the McHenry Junior high and Johnsburg Junior high school bands competed in the district band contest at Zion Saturday, March 23, and received first division (superior) ratings. The rating entitles thjem to enter the state band contest Saturday, April 27, the location^ be named at a later date. The Johnsburg concert choir THE McHENRY JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL BAND also received a top rating in competition March 16. Carl Kohrt directs the McHenry band and Hal Thompson is the new director of music at Johnsburg.
