The course was in three sessions, made up of lectures, movies and blackboard illustrations of driving techniques. The course was held in the afternoon from 1 to 4 and was sponsored by "People Interested in Traffic Safety". Trooper James McCullom, an Information and Education Officer of the Illinois State Police conducted the classes. One enthusiastic Oaker reported that it was an "extremely valuable course, that a certificate showing that you attended the classes is awarded to the attendee and that "some" Insurance Companies have joined in the program and may lower the rates of the certificate holder." It certainly would be worth looking into. The next session is scheduled for April 29, 7 to 10 p.m. at the Illinois Migrant Council Hall, 65 N. Williams street, Crystal Lake, 111. For further information call Mrs. William Tammeus, Woodstock, 338- 0946. FESTIVAL TRIP PLANNED Plans are in the making for a trip to the Heidi Festival in New Glarus, Wis., on Saturday, June 29, by chartered bus from the Whispering Oaks community center. Cost will include round trip transportation, reserved seat for the play at 1 p.m., and general admission to the Little Switzerland Festival at 8 p.m. Dinner is planned at a famous inn, specializing in Swiss cuisine, but is not included in the original charge. 44 FROM H£tU IftOI THE MI Mr 1408 N. TAX FIGHT CONTINUES The tax committee of the Whispering Oaks Association has .contacted the Crystal Lake Senior Citizens and are asking them to join in making a request of our legislators to provide an increase in the Homestead Exemption Act for Senior Citizens (65 and older.) The present exemption is $1500 and it is hoped to raise the level to $5000. The request was first made at the April 8 meeting of the Illinois State Assembly Sub committee studying Tax Relief for Senior Citizens. The hearing was held in the Whispering Oaks Community Center and was well attended by interested citizens from all of McHenry. A meeting with the Illinois Association of Senior Citizens in Peoria is anticipated to enlist their aid. In unity there is strength! INTEREST IN ART CONTINUES The "Daubers" are a devoted bunch, no matter what the weather is they meet every Thursday morning under the tutelage of Alf Heggelund and paint up a storm at the Whispering Oaks community center. Regulars in the class are Ed Poole, Lorraine Reichman, Ann Kvapil, Ruth Earlewine, lone Swingle, Helen Gebhardt, Chet Conrad, Evelyn Enger and Marge Butler. HAPPY TIME Mr. and Mrs. Herb Sass of Ashley Drive had a very busy and thoroughly enjoyable Easter week. They spent the weekend with their daughter, Mrs. William Frederickson, and her family of six youngsters in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. A house full of lively children is always one of fun. They awoke to find 2 inches of snow on Easter morning. When they arrived home on Monday, they rushed to get ready for house guests. Mrs. Sass's brother, Charles Gohde, and his family of Bloomfield, Mich., arrived for the first visit in 3 years. Yes, Easter time Sass family.
