It is Sunday night - and late. But, a deadline looms up and Monday night is filled with other lines of endeavor. Drove up to Richmond at noon to a place where they serve sandwiches with home made bread. The town was buzzing with people looking through the many antique stores. More young people than old. Had an eventful time in the afternoon in the beautiful home of the Ray Nelsens on Pistakee Bay. The Nelsens entertained for a Rotarian and his Rotary Ann from Australia, Coll and Mrs. Morris. Our gracious hostess opened the door before we had to knock and made us feel real welcome. Ray was there to greet us with that great smile of his - and anxious for us to state our wishes in the refreshment department. If we overdid with hors d'oeuvres it was because Lois Peterson served us a delicious assortment, then came back with a refill. Good kid, that Lois! Sociability abounded, making it hard to leave one of Joe Huemann was one of the solid citizens of Johnsburg, always interested and taking part in activities for the good of the community. He set a fine example for his sons to follow. And the merry-go-round goes round. Out to West Campus to the McHenry-Choral Club spring program. Director Adele Froehlich gave the large crowd a fine program, having a wealth of great talent in the group. We missed Mary Ann Wegener and Otto Pyritz who were unable to perform. Both are popular with the music crowd. The only trouble with the program was that we missed the Lawrence Welk show and learned later at Bimbo's that it was a great one with "Old Time Songs". Caught the exciting finish of the White Sox game with the Milwaukee Brewers. Sox won. What else? SAFE THIS TIME - A Warren base runner made it to second base on a deep fly ball caught by Steve O'Halleran. Steve's throw was on target to Doug Freund who is shown attempting to tag the runner. But, we nearly went nuts before Manager Chuck Tanner yanked Jim Katt, his starting pitcher. Being a Monday morning quarterback, we knew when Katt issued a walk and gave up a hit in the ninth inning that he had lost his magic. Then came a homerun and the score was 4- 3. We should have a hot line to the White Sox dugout. TOMASELLO'S Thurs., Night Women's League 514-203 C. Krumsee; 485 C. May; 482-187 K. Bradley; 474 B. Hettermann; 455 I. Stilling; 453-187 E. This prize sailfish was taken 30 miles off the coast of Acapulco by Chuck Huffar of 4704 W. Bonner drive, McHenry. It weighed in a 136 lbs., and measured 8 feet 11 inches. Huffar, who had been deep sea fishing only once before, had won the trip offered by his company. It took him 30 minutes to bring the fish into the boat. Thinclads Beat Dundee 83 To 62 In Dual Meet In a major change, harness racing at the McHenry County Fair this year will be shifted to the first two afternoons - Wednesday, July 31 and Thursday, August 1. This is an effort to make it possible for more people to view the races and avoid conflict with many other traditional Saturday-Sunday afternoon events. Howard Lamb is the superintendent of this year's harness attraction. (DON PEASLEY PHOTOGRAPHY) By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry high track team defeated Dundee in a dual meet here last Thursday by a score of 83 to 62. Brian Nuss and Ev Klapperich each won two firsts for the Warriors. George Hansen won the discus with a fine throw of 135'2". Tim Talbot won the 880 in 2:01 and is nearing what seems to be the 2 minute barrier that has plagued him all season. Mike Cajthaml won the high jump, and Rick Freund won the pole vault. The sophomores completely dominated their meet with Dundee winning 107 to 43. Denny Useman won the 100, 220, and the long jump. Jerry Pepping won the mile, Andy Oakley won the 2 mile. Tony Bentz won the 120 high hurdles and the shot put. Mike Peterson won the high jump and I understand that old "Pete" has issued a challenge to young Mike. That event could draw a crowd. Steve Koerber won the low hurdles, and Wagner won the discus for the sophs. VARSITY 440 Yd Relay - Dundee, 45.9, McHenry. 120 Yd H. In the opener Tommy Ludwig went the distance for the win, and along with Tony Christy collected 2 hits. In the nightcap Christy threw a 4 hitter as the sophs put across 8 runs in the third inning. In this inning the young Warriors gathered 10 straight hits to put the game out of reach. Christy and Ron Himplemann each had 2 hits. On a sad note Joel Wakitsch sophomore catcher broke his arm in a collision at home plate and will be out for the rest of the season. The freshmen lost a pair to North Chicago 6 to 0 and 7 to 6. J.E. HOOPER, D.Y.M. ANNOUNCES THAT HE HAS ASSUMED THE VETERINARY PRACTICE OF H.S. FIKE, D.Y.M. Many men now might grow a beard, if only they could think up some decent reason why. jr
