BIRTHDAYS - ANNIVERSARIES May 12 is shared for their Surprise Birthday Party Planned By Neighbors Though Aunt Nellie Hepburn's birthday was last Thursday and "Muck" Brennan and Ralph Kick's were Sunday, their friends and neighbors managed to get them all together for a surprise party last Wednesday to celebrate the occasions. Mrs. Hepburn's sister and brother-in-law, the Russell Soddys of Kenosha, visited her Wednesday and her son, Johnny Blackman, called from Florida to wish her a "happy birthday". To mark the occasion, Aunt Nellie received a cymbidium corsage from the girls at Morton Chemical and a chrysanthemum corsage from her grandchildren at Richmond. Friday morning she left from O'Hare for a marvelous flight to California where she is visiting her daughter and family. HERE AND THERE Last Sunday, Doe Brennan and Frank and Lil Visconti drove into Oak Lawn to surprise the Kenneth Brennans. It was Wendy Brennan's fifth birthday and Wayne celebrated his first Communion. "Muck" had to miss out on the fun. Bert Hanson, administrator, said Phase IV federal government controls ended at midnight April 30. The hospital gave employees a 5 per cent cost-of-living increase effective May 1, an increase needed to pay employees a fair wage and assure the hospital of a top quality staff. Hanson pointed out a major difficulty confronting him as he reviews the budget is that the cost of many things the hospital bought were not under controls so he has been confronted with the inflationary pressure that began under the Phase III control efforts and has continued since. "We want to cooperate with the public to keep costs down and will make increases in rates only when absolutely necessary to assure financial integrity and continued outstanding health care at Memorial hospital," said Hanson in discussing the aftermath of the Phase IV controls. One major pressure will be the added cost imposed with the 5 per cent wage increase. For the remainder of 1974, added costs will total about $85,000 since the annual payroll is $2 million. Memorial hospital is in a fortunate position of having many major building and improvement programs achieved and those costs financed in such a manner that the loans are being repaid as initially planned. This includes the 1970 addition, the 1972 emergency department addition and the 1973 pediatrics area remodeling and expansion. Whenever you hear about a generation gap, you can he sureyou're getting a human, •hr&sed point of view. Each generation is sure! Yet there is a divine view. It concentrates on the oneness of all generations ... on all the blessings and opportunities that God continues to bestow. "His truth endureth to all gen erations," said the Psalmist. When Great-Grandma holds little Linda in her arms next Sunday, she'll be t h i n k i n g gratefully of all the gifts they have in common -- from the Lord. And she'll be praying that Linda will be brought up to cherish those gifts. The generation gap--like all differences -- disappears when h u m a n i n t e l l i g e n c e g r a s p s God's point of view. SERVICES Mount Hope Church United Methodist 1015 W.
